Today, I visited Baramen Kofukubishoku in Ogikubo for a reservation. They don't have a menu, so they asked me what I wanted to eat. I said I wanted to try the Bak Kut Teh and also asked for a curry plate recommended by them with less rice. The Bak Kut Teh arrived simmering hot, with fried items, lettuce, shiitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, pork bones, and chunks of pork belly. The soup had a unique herbal flavor that was quite addictive. The spicy sauce served on the side was also delicious. The meat was juicy and very tasty. The curry plate had about 5 different types of curry on one plate. Each curry had its own distinct flavor and was really delicious. The chicken wing curry was rich in chicken flavor, and the paste-like curry in front was a seafood curry made with fermented shrimp, which was also amazing. The bitter melon curry, egg curry, and fried anchovy-like dish were all so delicious that it was a mystery why they were so good even though I had never tried them before. The curry was completely different from Indian curry, with a unique herbal flavor that felt like it could make you healthy from the inside out. Finally, I mixed the remaining Bak Kut Teh with the curry and it was incredibly delicious. I had a great time chatting with the chef Ellen and her husband, and they were very kind. Despite their illness, they gave me courage as I also suffer from a serious illness. I hope they continue to make customers smile with their delicious curry. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Ellen returned to Malaysia after 4 years due to the pandemic and reopened her restaurant after a 2-month closure. She got inspiration in Malaysia and prepared new menu items. The menu is omakase style, with each dish being delicious. My favorites were the tamarind stir-fried shrimp and the dry bak kut teh. The shrimp can be eaten with the shells on, and the sauce is flavorful. The bak kut teh was served without soup, which is popular in Malaysia. Each visit promises a new and exciting experience as the menu changes frequently. Reservations are a must. We ate with 3 people and spent around 4,000 yen each. I had been curious about this restaurant for a while, so I made a reservation and went. It happened to be the first day after the closure. Firstly, Ellen, who runs this place all by herself, was very unique. She is playful and has a very close relationship with the customers. This may be one of the reasons why this restaurant is so popular. There is no menu, it's all up to Ellen. If you want something specific, she will make it for you. Every dish that came out was delicious, but I especially recommend the Bak Kut Teh and Rendang. The Bak Kut Teh comes with a homemade sauce that I have never tasted before, and it was really delicious. I wanted more of just that. The Rendang was my first time trying it, and it was as delicious as I expected. I particularly liked the beef and chicken Rendang. I want to come back again.

First of all, Elena Chef is currently recovering from a health issue, so the restaurant is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. She seems to be gradually getting better and is full of energy. There is no fixed menu because everything is made from scratch, and the sauces vary daily based on inspiration. Customers who visit frequently don't want the same dish every time, so they can request what they want directly from Elena. I asked for a Beef Rendang, and a delicious stir-fried dish called "Horse Light" (blanched water spinach with fermented shrimp paste) was served. The Chinese-style vegetables were crunchy and flavorful. The Beef Rendang Plate was a surprise, with a dry and spicy beef dish that was a unique twist on the traditional recipe. The blue box version of the Rendang was served, with jasmine rice colored with butterfly pea flowers and a coconut topping. The homemade sambal added depth to the dish. Elena is very friendly and welcoming, making you feel like friends immediately. She learned cooking on her own, and her skills are truly impressive. She is excited to visit Malaysia after four years and take a break to recover fully.

When asked what I wanted to eat, I said I wanted the Rendang Special Plate and Paper Chicken for 2,500 yen. They told me they had the Rendang plate available. Around the Nasi Lemak, there were many delicious side dishes. The Paper Chicken, with a ginger-based sauce, was also very tasty.

I visited a restaurant near my home that I had been curious about. I left it up to the owner, Ellen, to choose the menu. The curry ramen and bak kut teh were truly delicious. My wife, who had been to Malaysia recently, commented that it was even better than the flavors she had tried there. The timing of the dishes being served was perfect, allowing us to enjoy each dish at a good pace. Ellen's personality added to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. It's a lovely, homey place.

Malaysian cuisine in Ogikubo with a beautiful view! I tried the recommended plate with rendang and laksa. I felt herbs I had never encountered before. The dish was packed with ingredients and had a refined taste. The sweetness of coconut and the spiciness of the spices are addictive! I can't stop thinking about trying the bak kut teh next time.

I went to Marekou Fuku Koubi Shokuzai in Ogikubo after eating eel in Ikebukuro. I made a reservation by phone the day before my visit and ordered the fish head curry. The menu included Paper Chicken, Bak Kut Teh, Beef Rendang, Shrimp Curry, Fish Head Curry, Jasmine Rice, and Shanghai-style Yakisoba. The Paper Chicken was tasty with a hint of ginger, while the Bak Kut Teh was like a medicinal hot pot, filled with plenty of ingredients. The Beef Rendang was a must-try, with a generous amount of beef and a perfect balance of spices. The Fish Head Curry, a specialty that requires advance reservation, had a large fish with plenty of bones to enjoy. The Shrimp Curry and Shanghai-style Yakisoba were also delicious. Overall, the food was not too spicy, making it enjoyable even for those who don't like spicy food. Ellen, the owner, was not only friendly but also made the dining experience wonderful. It's a fantastic restaurant with delicious food and a great atmosphere.

Ellen has returned and the restaurant is now open only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It's a hidden gem with a hard-to-find location. Customers are drawn to Ellen's personality and delicious, original Malaysian cuisine. The place is always fully booked with regulars. Some walk-in customers are turned away while dining. There is no menu, only omakase style, which adds to the excitement of discovering hidden menu items. The food is always delicious without fail. Looking forward to what surprises they will serve next time. It would be great if the restaurant could expand a bit to make reservations easier.

Recently, I have been going to a Malaysian restaurant in Ogikubo. Today, I tried Ellen's special Nasi Kandar! It's a Malaysian one-plate dish with rice topped with fish, shrimp, meat, and lots of vegetables. It's undeniably delicious. The restaurant will be closed for a period starting next week, but I will definitely be a regular customer when they reopen. #OgikuboGourmet

I called ahead to make a reservation with the owner, Ellen, and told her that I wanted to try the Fish Head Curry and Beef Rendang. When my curry buddy, N, and I arrived, Ellen greeted us and showed us to our table. We started with some cold beers, and to our surprise, the Fish Head Curry arrived first! It was a huge curry in a large sukiyaki-style pot with a whole big snapper fish. It was so voluminous that we knew we couldn't finish it all by ourselves, especially since more dishes were on the way. Along with the Fish Head Curry, we were served Beef Rendang and Dal Curry, along with Jasmine rice. We mixed all three curries on one plate with the rice. The Fish Head Curry was delicious, with a flavorful broth of snapper, lemongrass, tamarind, and mango. The Beef Rendang, a signature dish of the restaurant, was rich in beef flavor and spices, perfect with beer. The Dal Curry had a spicy taste with a hint of cloves. All three curries were unique and tasty. Next, we had Paper Duck and stir-fried water spinach, along with some lemon sours that we ordered. We ended up taking the remaining Fish Head Curry home as we couldn't finish it all. Ellen was very friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home even though it was our first visit. The total bill for the two of us was just under 10,000 yen. It was a very enjoyable dining experience. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I visited the restaurant after making a reservation with a cat-loving father. I arrived at 7:00 p.m. on the Saturday I reserved, and there were already 5 other customers. After sanitizing both hands, I was led to a table for 4 people. They had pre-ordered the Fish Head Curry (requires advance booking) and Beef Rendang. The menu was soon to be updated, so there were no menus inside the restaurant. We ordered some draft beer and toasted. As a snack, we ordered Paper Duck instead of Paper Chicken. The Fish Head Curry, which filled a sukiyaki pot, arrived first. It was a South Indian style curry with a whole sea bream head, eggplant, okra, tomato, and purple onions. It had a hint of mint and lemongrass. Then the Beef Rendang, Dal Curry, and Jasmine Rice arrived. The Beef Rendang here is the same as the 36cos retort curry. We poured the Fish Head Curry, Beef Rendang, and Dal Curry over the Jasmine Rice. The Fish Head Curry was mildly spicy with the umami of sea bream broth, a nice lemongrass aroma, and a hint of sourness and sweetness from tamarind and mango. The Beef Rendang had cilantro, lemongrass, and galangal, and the tender beef was very delicious. The Dal Curry was full of ingredients and had a strong clove flavor. We also received the Malaysian-style greens (stir-fried water spinach) and the Paper Duck. The Malaysian-style greens were a stir-fry of water spinach with a shrimp aroma that went well with beer. The Paper Duck was a Chinese soy sauce-flavored grilled duck skewer, which was also delicious. Despite our efforts, we couldn't finish the Fish Head Curry, so we asked for it to be packed to go. The total for 3 curries, 2 snacks, 2 plates of Jasmine Rice, 1 draft beer each, and 1 lemon sour each was just under 10,000 yen. It was a very satisfying dinner. I recommend making a reservation before visiting, as the specialty, Fish Head Curry, must be pre-ordered. I plan to visit with about 4 people next time. Thank you for the meal.

Recently, I've been going to a Malaysian restaurant in Ogikubo. Today, I asked Ellen to choose for me, and she brought out Assam Laksa! It was a luxurious Laksa with sardines in it, and it was very delicious! Every dish I've tried there has been delicious, so I usually leave it up to them to decide. Also, today they served Rendang, which I haven't had in a while. It's a classic menu item at Malay Fuco! I fell in love with it from the first bite. It was also amazing when eaten with Achar! It's a popular dish, so make sure to call and make a reservation a few days in advance! #OgikuboGourmet

Ellen, the leading expert in Malaysian cuisine, was asked to create the trending Nasi Kandar, and her response was as follows: The Nasi Kandar was wrapped in banana leaf, giving off a pleasant aroma. Upon opening it, there were generous portions of lamb chops, chicken, white fish, pickles, okra, dal curry, rice, and a spicy chili oil drizzle covering everything. The aroma of star anise popped in the mouth. This dish reminded me of a moist and spiced version of "okowa" (sticky rice). It was a delightful experience to recreate Malaysian street food. Interestingly, the banana leaf aroma lingers after the meal, not just for visual effect. It was a refreshing conclusion. I wonder what to request next time? The Nasi Lemak with sambal on coconut rice seems intriguing. The Hainanese Chicken Rice with moist chicken also sounds delicious.

Malaysian cuisine in Ogikubo! The owner's original menu is amazing! Today I ordered the shrimp curry! Isn't this crazy? Where's the curry? (laughs) There are huge shrimp all over the place! The shrimp flavor is concentrated in the curry, and it goes perfectly with the rice! The Dry Bak Kut Teh is also a must-try menu, with lots of meat and incredibly delicious! We also had stir-fried vegetables with a gentle seasoning that was delicious! It's popular, so make sure to call and make a reservation a few days in advance! #OgikuboGourmet

Delicious Malaysian cuisine in Ogikubo that I visit regularly! Today I ordered the Yam Rice Pot - a steamed dish with yam and pork sandwiched in between. It's so flavorful and the rice absorbs all the delicious juices. This place is super popular, so make sure to reserve in advance! #OgikuboGourmet

Located in Ogikubo, this Malaysian restaurant is a hidden gem that is popular despite its inconspicuous appearance. The owner is very friendly. They serve a Chinese New Year hot pot with plenty of meat, seafood, and vegetables. It was delicious with a wide variety of ingredients packed into the pot. The Tiger beer from Singapore was a perfect match!

I had Rendang Chicken. The restaurant is located underground at the station, and at the same time, there was a group of young customers at the table speaking in three languages. There was no menu, and it truly felt like a "deep" restaurant. The owner, who is not a native Japanese speaker, could speak in Japanese and English, and the food was delicious. The coconut milk in the Rendang Chicken was rich and went well with rice. At first, I had seconds of rice, but there was still more food left, so I had seconds of the main dish as well. Besides the spices, there were flavor boosters like dried anchovies and peanuts, as well as spicy paste, which was a fresh and delicious experience for me, as I am not very familiar with Malaysian cuisine.

[Tokyo] The Chinese New Year celebration dish at the Malay-style gourmet restaurant was amazing! 😂 ✅Name: #Malay-style gourmet ✅Location: #Ogikubo gourmet ✅Price: Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 yen per person. Notes: I recently discovered my favorite spot in Ogikubo, Malay-style gourmet. I go there once a week! The dishes made by Ellen are incredibly delicious! Today's special menu is the #PunChoi (Pun Choi for Chinese New Year)! This is a traditional Chinese New Year celebration dish available by reservation only until early February. The deep pot is filled with ingredients like shrimp, scallops, oysters, thickly sliced meats, shiitake mushrooms, and broccoli. The rich broth packed with flavors pairs perfectly with rice. It's best enjoyed when shared with a group of friends. Ellen always creates original and amazing dishes, making each visit enjoyable! For first-timers, I recommend trying the classic #BeefRendang or #BakKutTeh, and then ask Ellen for recommendations. For those who enjoy international cuisine in Ogikubo, this place is a must-visit! Reservations are now required, so contact them via phone or social media to make a booking. Thank you for the delicious meal! ( ^ω^ )
