This is my favorite shop. I always get takeout, and they always pack it very neatly and it tastes delicious. Recently, they have started offering limited edition wagashi in addition to their signature manju. I often stop by after work, and it's a treat when they have these special wagashi available. This time, they had a cute mikan wagashi, which was delicious with its chewy mochi texture and elegant white bean paste. I was very satisfied. Their classic oshiruko and sencha set is always top-notch, showcasing the excellence of Toraya. I always order it when I visit. I love the winter mochi offerings. Lately, I've been into azuki tea, so I always get a few bottles when I visit. Their matcha kakigori is also delicious with a rich matcha flavor. Their zenkai anko is incredibly tasty and has an elegant taste. Their tea is also delicious, creating a warm and soothing experience. I'm always amazed by how well they know their anko, being famous for their yokan. The staff is also very friendly, making it a wonderful shop that I always want to return to.

It was so hot, but I finally arrived at Toraya. Everywhere was crowded, but luckily I was able to get in right away. I ordered an iced coffee. Most people were ordering iced or hot green tea, but I have no regrets. The inside of the shop was quiet and relaxing, perfect for enjoying my tea.

First day of summer vacation. A typhoon is approaching, but the weather is still nice. I went for a walk in the morning to Asakusa to buy bread, but unfortunately the bakery was closed for the Bon holidays. It's around 11 o'clock, but it's so hot that I took a break at Matsuya. I saw a photo of Uji Kinshi and noticed that Toraya has an eat-in space. I immediately went in and ordered Uji Kinshi for 880 yen. I sat at the table farthest back and waited. When the Uji Kinshi arrived, I noticed how vibrant the green matcha was. I started by eating the wheat cake, but it made my mouth dry. I tried to eat the matcha underneath, but it was falling apart! So I ended up eating it from the top. The matcha was delicious! It quenched my thirst and cooled my body. When I thought the top matcha was gone, I thought it was just ice underneath, but there was sweet syrup at the bottom! I enjoyed it until the last bite.

On our way back, we stopped at Toraya in Matsuya Asakusa for a break. It was hot, so my wife had Uji Kin-iri and I had a manju with green tea. Toraya is a long-established store, and the tea they serve is delicious no matter which store you visit. Even the second brew tastes great without losing its flavor, they really serve good tea here. Also, this place is not crowded, it's a hidden gem.

Do you have any souvenirs that you don't usually buy for yourself but would be happy to receive? My number one choice is "Toraya's yokan"! (…even though I buy it for myself too. lol) I'm going to Matsuya to check out year-end gifts, and I think I'll buy some yokan after a long time. The small yokan (292 yen including tax) can be bought individually, so it's convenient for home use or small gifts. There are many delicious sweets shops and traditional Japanese confectionery stores in Asakusa, but Toraya's yokan is exceptional. Whenever I eat it, I always say "delicious~". My favorite is the classic "Yoru no Ume". I also like the fragrant black tea and fresh green flavors. When I was younger, my boss told me, "When bringing a gift for an apology, it must be Toraya's yokan! It's important to go to a well-known store with a heavy gift. After returning from Asakusa Tiger, we stopped by Asakusa Matsuya. Since we could still have shaved ice at Toraya, I ordered Uji Kinjyo (700 yen, tax excluded) and my wife ordered the Rikyu Manju and coffee set (670 yen, tax excluded). The matcha and brown sugar syrup in Uji Kinjyo were delicious, as expected from Toraya. The ice was also in good condition. In my memory, the ice here was tastier than the ice at Toraya's Ginza or Imperial Hotel branches. The red bean paste was much sweeter than my preference, but I guess that's also typical of Toraya.

The shaved ice at Uji Kinsho is delicious with their syrup. As you eat, you'll encounter a fluffy texture with another syrup poured on top, creating a delightful sensation as it melts in your mouth. The red bean paste is undeniably tasty, and the atmosphere at the department store is cool and perfect for COVID-19 prevention measures. It was delicious!

At Asakusa Matsuya's Eton, when Toraya's shaved ice first started, the sweetness of the red bean paste was also relatively restrained for Toraya, and the quality of the ice was good, so I liked it. The ice quality was much better than Toraya's in Ginza or the Imperial Hotel. Today was very hot again, so my family took a break and had shaved ice (770 yen). The ice quality, the taste of matcha and honey are good, but I feel like the red bean paste is sweeter than before. But it's still delicious.

My husband went to Matsuya to buy a summer gift. Nowadays, you can easily send gifts online or through department stores, so I didn't think he needed to go to the store for a simple obligatory gift. But he is old-fashioned and prefers to do things in person. As I was passing by, I noticed they were selling chilled sweet soup, so I decided to wait for him here instead of going to the gift section. The area next to the counter had a casual dining space. It was open and not crowded, so there was no need to worry about social distancing. The chilled sweet soup in a paper cup had a nice level of sweetness. It went down smoothly and left no residue. It paired well with the toasted rice crackers with gluten. It was delicious. Despite the casual dining setup, I chose to overlook the fact that the containers were made of paper.

On weekends, Asakusa is always crowded, making it hard to find a place to relax. However, when I visited this place, there were no customers, so I decided to go in without hesitation. It's an eat-in space located on the 1st floor of Matsuya Asakusa, with a view of people walking through the department store aisle. It may be a bit intimidating to enter, but for me, it's a casual place where I can easily come and go. I chose the "Shaved Ice with Uji Matcha" (756 yen including tax) to cool off on the slightly humid day. The ice was fluffy, the matcha flavor was refreshing, and the delicious red bean paste added a nice touch. The portion was just right, not too much. I enjoyed a 30-minute break, and before I knew it, the eat-in space was full of customers. It seems easier to enter when there are others inside. As always, the food was delicious. Tora-ya's shaved ice has started. I had the Uji Kin-to (756 yen). Just like last year's Uji Kin-to from Tora-ya, both the sweet red bean paste and matcha syrup have become even sweeter. I feel like in 2017, it was a bit less sweet. The ice quality is good.

Asakusa Station Building's Matsuya Asakusa houses "Toraya," which has a stylish storefront and a menu inside. Since it's not found in Iwate, I often buy yokan when I come across it. Recently, my favorite shaved ice from Toraya. I ordered just the shaved ice, while my wife got the one with coffee. The ice was in good condition, but today the matcha and red beans tasted sweeter than usual. Maybe it's just my imagination?

The limited edition Uji Kinjito shaved ice in the summer was delicious. I want to go eat it again this summer.
