2013.4.18 Seasonal and day-limited fresh shirasu bowl. Served with homemade special soy sauce with egg yolk. The freshness, portion size, and balance with the rice are all perfect. Completely worth the 1,000 yen price.
2011.12.05 Today's lunch was the limited edition Hokkai Don. Uni, salmon, ikura, and sweet shrimp were expected, but hidden beneath the rice, there was a generous amount of crab meat and thinly sliced squid covering about 30% of the surface area. The miso soup was also delicious. The quality and freshness of the ingredients can be judged from the photos, but the American uni had a strong mineral flavor which was a bit disappointing. However, the portion size was impressive, perhaps five times more than at another restaurant, and it was quite tasty so no complaints. Plus, the price of 1,000 yen with change back was a great deal (I remember the other restaurant charging 1,260 yen). The ankimo being prepared in front of us was shaped with plastic wrap, steamed with sake, and would be served as an evening snack. While many places serve cold dishes with ponzu sauce, here they lightly torch it before serving, as explained by the head chef. I'd love to come back for dinner. Overall, it was a lunch that made me want to return in the evening.
2011's lunchtime. As the temperature dropped a bit, I decided to warm up my stomach and heart at Bon Plaisir in the Chuginko Koiwa Mansion, but on the way past Taisuke, a sign caught my eye. Sushi Ichimon, which I had been curious about, had started serving lunch, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit. I changed my plans and visited the restaurant. While studying the menu, I ordered a sample of the lunch nigiri. It seemed similar to Kasugano at first, but oh my. What's this, the last piece? Two rolls of chutoro lined up, topped with plenty of thinly sliced squid, then piled high with uni and ikura. How do you even eat this??? I was told to just eat it with soy sauce, so I drizzled soy sauce over it using pickled ginger as a brush, and enjoyed each piece of the nori roll in two bites, but it was luxurious. Just this one piece of sushi was enough to satisfy me completely, the impact was enough to make all memories of other toppings disappear. Tremendous value for money. This is truly the epitome of extravagance.
