What should I buy? This shop has a nice aroma. This time, I purchased lemon cheesecake, jam bread, and San Remo. All of them are quite expensive for bread. So, I naturally expected them to be delicious. The bar is set high. Therefore, I selected the strawberry jam bread over the red bean butter bread, which is rare. When writing like this, I always want to say that everything was delicious. But honestly, the bread was not tasty. When it comes to jam bread, Hatoya's jam bread is exquisite. Compared to Hatoya's strawberry jam bread, the amount of jam in this bread is only one-third! I was surprised. Moreover, the taste of the strawberry jam is inferior. Hatoya's bread is already delicious on its own. However, the bread from Donk is not good! I think convenience store bread is much tastier. It's worse than Yamazaki's 5-piece roll bread! There is no need to say "as bad as possible." But considering the high price, the taste of the bread is below convenience store level, so there is no other way. The customer service from the staff was not pleasant either.

I bought breakfast bread at Donq in Asakusa. I bought a Gâteau Chocolat, matcha and red bean, and bacon from the bakery. The Gâteau Chocolat is a brioche full of chocolate, with chocolate mixed into the bread dough and chocolate chips inside. The bacon sandwich has a big piece of bacon sandwiched between the bread, with cheese on top. The crispy bacon and cheese go well with the semi-hard bread. The matcha and red bean bread has layers of regular dough and matcha dough, with sweet red beans scattered around the edges. The sweetness of the red beans adds a nice touch. When warmed up, the aroma of matcha becomes even more pronounced. All the bread was reasonably priced and easy to eat.

I have always liked sweet bread, but this is great, I like French bread because it's crispy. The service from the staff is also very good, I can tell they are well-educated on how to serve each menu item, greetings, and how to present the dishes. The Panettone and Pandoro are delicious!

I purchased some 'Mini Canelés' from a bakery that I happened to peek into. To my surprise, there were mini canelés being sold by weight in the showcase. I ordered about 100g and got 9 pieces for around 350 yen including tax. The appearance was shiny and crispy. I wasn't expecting much due to the low price, but I was amazed by the quality. With mini canelés, sometimes you can't enjoy the crispy outside or the chewy inside, but these had a good balance of both. The crispy texture was slightly stronger due to their small size, but you could still feel the chewy inside. They didn't have a strong liqueur scent, making them easy to eat and very enjoyable. Since there were 9 pieces, I froze some of them. Because of their small size, they thawed out in a few minutes and were delicious even without reheating. These mini canelés are convenient to enjoy and of high quality, making them a great choice for stocking up. Thank you for the meal!

Donk, a small shop located on the basement 1st floor of Matsuya. They have a limited selection of items, but it's actually nice not to have to choose from too many options. When I went near closing time, most of the shelves were empty, but I was thrilled to find my favorite Cheese Coupe! I had to buy it! I purchased the Fromage Coupe (291 yen tax included) and the Apple and Walnut Maple (238 yen tax included). The Coupe is small but packed with cheese, delivering a consistently delicious taste. The Apple and Walnut one is like a mildly sweet apple pie, with crispy roasted walnuts adding a nice touch. The maple aroma is also delightful. If I crave Cheese Coupe again, I'll definitely go back. Matsuya Asakusa store, basement 1st floor.

There is a Donq bakery chain in Matsuya in Asakusa, right? I had never bought French bread from Donq before, but I tried it as a gift. First, I tried it as it is. It was hard to bite into. It had a classic French bread taste. It was delicious, but a bit tough. Next, I toasted it. When it was crispy, the texture on the outside and inside was good. When I spread butter on it, it was really good. Overall, it was just delicious.

My daughter always gets a sandwich when she goes out by train. If the station kiosk is sold out, we buy from the Donk at Matsuya underground. But she got tempted by the wagyu beef bento (^_^;) In the end, I ended up eating the egg sandwich. Ham was eaten by my daughter. Well, it was an egg sandwich. I feel like I wasted it because I ate it after some time had passed. If I had eaten it before the bread got moist... it would have been even more delicious. Well, it was just a regular egg sandwich. Hey!

I had lunch but it wasn't enough, so I took a stroll through EKIMISE underground shopping area. This place is famous for croissants, and they seem to excel at sweet pastries. I bought the "Domestic Apple Pie for 313 yen." The stewed apples in this pie were incredibly delicious, even better than they looked. Energy replenished! Thank you for the meal.

After eating Monja-yaki, the next day I went to buy bread. I bought the Hokkaido corn Asakusa Goshikimame Pan Spicy Bread Half, with a fragrant soy sauce flavor. The Spicy Bread I ate had cheese and bacon all the way to the edge, and it was indeed spicy as the name suggests. The black pepper added a delicious kick to the bread.

In the basement of Matsuya Asakusa store, there is a bakery in the so-called department store food street. Takeout only. On a holiday during summer vacation, my daughter and I won a parent-child tour sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, starting at the Shinjuku Metropolitan Government Building. We toured by sightseeing bus and ended with a water bus in Asakusa. Since we were in Asakusa, we bought some snacks and bread to take home. We purchased a half-size Four Cheese French Bread (1/2) for 281 yen (tax included), which is a rich French bread made with four types of cheese. My daughter chose the Papa Pan, a French bread lover who doesn't need a side dish. It was easy to eat as it was already sliced. We also bought the Mentaiko Cheese Mochi (100g) for 260 yen (tax included), a bread with the flavor of spicy cod roe and seaweed. It was a limited edition product for August and had a chewy texture. I also picked some mini donuts, but I ended up snacking on a few along the way, so I don't have a photo. There are no Donq stores in my area, but I found out that there are many bakeries affiliated with Donq. It was my first time in a while to visit Donq, and the prices were reasonable and delicious.

[Motivation for visiting] I had some business nearby, so I decided to use the short time I had to find a snack to satisfy my hunger and came across this place. [Atmosphere] The store is located just a 3-minute walk from the station. The store's name at the top is the landmark. Inside the store, the bread is... [Taste] - Raisin Bread 216 yen The surface has a crispy texture of 30% and a chewy texture of 70%, with a slightly fragrant taste. The center is moist and has a good texture, but the sweetness and flavor of the grapes are lacking. If it had more of the grape flavor, it would be a good item, but... Rating: 3.3 out of 5 points (average rating of 3 points) [Overall impression] My feedback is that it could be improved with more grape flavor.

On the day when I was strolling around Asakusa, I realized that I had forgotten to buy bread for my meal as I was about to head home. I remembered that there was a bakery inside Matsuya near the station. So I decided to use it at that timing. It's convenient to have a bakery near the station. In the food section of Matsuya department store basement, there is a Donq store. I often use the one in Seibu Ikebukuro main store, but the selection here is slightly different (even chain stores have slightly different selections at each store). When it comes to French bread for meals, I often buy the Champignon at Seibu Ikebukuro main store, but they didn't have it here, so I bought the Petit Baguette for 129 yen. The Petit Baguette is about 5 cm thick, quite slim. If sliced thinly, it seems to be just right for canapés. It's convenient to have it near the station for when you forget to buy something. I would like to use it again if I have the chance.

And so, after stopping by UNIQLO, I made a detour~♬ I parked the baby stroller and a male staff member (maybe from production?) kindly entertained my baby until I finished shopping. Thank you. I couldn't resist buying the sausage, the curry bread, and the sweet treats like apples and chestnuts which are perfect for the season. The total came to 723 yen, which is not bad for a department store basement! I devoured them all in no time. I didn't bother to warm them up, but the curry bread was delicious! The cheese really added to it! They were all simple yet tasty breads. Thank you for the meal♬

(January 2016) This time I purchased seasonal limited edition breads. Aomori Apple and Caramel Tart (Aomori Apple Fair product) has a mild sweetness that blends well with the slight bitterness of caramel and the sweetness of the apple. Creamy Corn Cream (recommended winter bread fair product) is a creamy bread with plenty of white sauce. It tastes even better when slightly warmed. Spinach and Bacon Meal Bread Butter Roll is a meal bread with spinach, bacon, and cheese kneaded into the dough, topped with Edam cheese. (March 2015) This shop is located on the basement floor of Matsuya Asakusa store. I often visit Matsuya, but this was my first time in the basement. (There were many elderly customers, creating a calm atmosphere.) I bought sandwiches and enjoyed them at home. (They even provided a proper ice pack!) The Mixed Sandwich includes ham and egg, as well as tomato and lettuce sandwiches. The latter uses sprouted grain bread and is cut into small pieces for easy eating. There were also many seasonal limited edition breads on display, so I look forward to trying them next time.

Located on the basement floor of Matsuya Asakusa is DONQ, a bakery established in 1905 in Kobe. It is a well-known bakery with 123 stores across Japan, with over 250 stores including mini stores. The name of the bakery is said to come from Don Quixote. After visiting Senso-ji Temple, I stopped by and purchased two types of crispy cheese bread (270 yen), corn bread (76 yen), and half of Asakusa black sugar bread (270 yen). The Asakusa black sugar bread is a limited edition item only available at Matsuya Asakusa store! I have a weakness for limited edition items. It is a bread with plenty of poppy seeds and a black sugar flavor. Inside the crispy bread dough, there is black sugar paste. It has a modest sweetness and a simple, rustic flavor.

Tonight I went for a stroll in Asakusa to meet an acquaintance! However, I regret not doing it on another day because unexpectedly there was a fireworks festival happening (´Д` ) Asakusa Station was so crowded that I couldn't walk! (−_−;) It took me three times longer than usual to reach my destination near Kaminarimon Bridge! Phew. After finishing my business with my acquaintance, I felt a bit hungry so I went to the basement of Matsuya in Asakusa! The delicious smell and tempting French bread lured me into DONQ! They were having a French Fair with a variety of French breads! I chose my recent favorite, egg sandwich, curry bread, and refreshing lemon bread among others! The total bill came to 777 yen! Seems like good luck is on my side ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ The egg sandwich tasted better at a cafe though (。-_-。) The egg flavor is different. The other breads were simply delicious. Thank you for the meal!

【2015/8/01】The other day, I had dinner in Asakusa and stopped by Matsuya to buy a Donq bread called "Juwat to! Tsubu Corn" that caught my eye. This bread has plenty of butter soaked inside, and when you warm it up a bit and eat it, the butter oozes out from the inside. It's recommended to eat it warm. The Walnut and Blue Cheese bread has a generous amount of blue cheese, which might be a hit or miss depending on your taste. If you're okay with blue cheese, it's worth a try. I also bought a French bread with spinach and bacon rolled inside, and the crispy texture on the surface was delicious. Donq offers different seasonal breads, so you can enjoy a variety without getting bored.
【2014/10/20】After having lunch at MONTEE, I took a breather. Since I had come all the way to Asakusa, I walked through Matsuya and headed back up to ground level. They have been gradually renewing the place since summer, and the Matsuya's basement food floor now includes Thai cuisine "Chanloy" and Korean cuisine "Delica Ondoru". I decided to buy some bread from DONQ (Donq) today. I saw they had Petit Ficelle, which is a baguette-like bread made even smaller. It's just the right size for making sandwiches. I used to be obsessed with it for a while and would often stop by Donq at Matsuya Asakusa to buy Petit Ficelle. This time, I bought Petit Ficelle, Walnut Roll, Raisin Roll, and 4 Cheese bread. The Walnut Roll has walnuts mixed in the fluffy bread texture. The Raisin Roll is perfect for a sweet treat with its raisins. The bread with 4 types of cheese has a chewy dough with plenty of cheese generously stuffed inside. Although I didn't buy the famous Corn bread this time, it's definitely a classic. I used to stock up on them here and freeze them before (laughs). Next time, I'll definitely buy the Corn bread again before leaving.

I love Mini One! I can't help but be curious about the new varieties that come out each season. When buying items like croissants by weight, I always stick to getting 3 pieces to avoid overeating. I shouldn't buy extra for tomorrow morning, but this strawberry milk flavor is just too delicious! It's a double limited edition - "Matsuya Asakusa exclusive" and "Strawberry Fair limited time". The sweet and sour strawberry jam is irresistibly delicious. I want to eat it again! But it's so fleeting, ending in just one week.

This is a bakery located in the basement of Matsuya in Asakusa. I don't usually eat bread, but this time I decided to try it because other reviewers seem to like bread. I bought "Curry Donut (200 yen)" and "Garlic French (200 yen)". I couldn't find anything that made me think "I want to eat this!" right away, so I ended up buying the curry bread that I've always liked (even though it's called Curry Donut). When I warmed it up a bit in the microwave at home and tried it, it wasn't amazing, but it brought back nostalgic feelings and was quite delicious. It's nice to have something like this once in a while!
