A long-established curry restaurant in Ginza that has been around for decades despite changing owners. The signature dish is called Karai Rice, which is the only item on the menu. The current owner has implemented various strategies such as online ordering, increasing the restaurant's popularity. With a loyal fan base and a unique dish, it seems like this restaurant will continue to thrive. Karai Rice comes in different rice portion sizes, named after stations on the Keihin-Tohoku Line, which can be confusing at first. The dish may look like a regular curry, but it actually doesn't contain any solid pieces of meat or vegetables. The secret to its deliciousness lies in the unique paste-like curry sauce, which starts off sweet but then packs a spicy kick. It pairs well with the side of eggs and even cheese toppings. The coffee served after the meal is also delicious and complements the Karai Rice perfectly.

The curry was very light and easy to eat. I thought it looked cheap at first, but the balance of spiciness and flavor was delicious. I hope they continue the tradition of the curry taste that has been passed down for generations in Ginza. It seems nice to relax with a coffee after eating curry.

The curry was deliciously spicy. The fried egg on top balanced out the spiciness well. The curry comes in different sizes named after train stations, so I was unsure which size to order. In the end, I just went with "regular," like the others around me who also ordered "regular" or "medium."

"I went to 'Newcastle' in Ginza for the first time with a budget of 1000 yen. I ordered the regular size curry in Kamata with double eggs! I can't handle very spicy food, but this was just the right level of spiciness. I finished it quickly, thinking 'this is what everyone means by deliciously spicy,' so next time I'll try a larger size! #Newcastle #Curry #CurryRice #WantToConnectWithCurryLovers #WantToConnectWithFoodies #WantToConnectWithGourmetLovers #WantToConnectWithGourmetFans #GinzaGourmet #GinzaLunch"

I was introduced to this place by an acquaintance and decided to go right away! The medium-spicy dish was really delicious! I ordered a small portion this time, but it wasn't enough for me... Next time, I will go for the regular size! Thank you for the meal!! I heard the coffee is also delicious... I'm curious!

- Kamata Regular - The characteristic of this curry is its sweet and moderately spicy taste, similar to Indian curry. It goes well with sunny-side-up eggs to make it milder.
- Atmosphere: Located underground and slightly cramped. If dining alone, you may be seated at the bar counter.
- Other: The manager is friendly. Seems to have many regular customers.

After watching a Kabuki performance at Kabukiza Theater, I visited this restaurant for the first time in a while. They continue the tradition by serving delicious Kalai Rice (available in various sizes, with the option of mixed grain rice on weekends) and tasty coffee. It's a wonderful place loved by locals in the neighborhood. And believe it or not, due to its location, you might even spot Kabuki actors dining here.
<8.28-9.23 Small exhibition at @bar_yunagi> On August 5th, with more people on summer vacation, it became even harder to find a lunch spot. Even at 12:00, I was completely late to the scene and everywhere had long lines... I was starting to lose hope as I couldn't find any options, but then I saw the sign for Newcastle. It had been a while since I went underground. They only had one seat left at the counter. Most of the customers were Asian travelers. It's really popular. I'm not sure how it was before, but now they have perfect English support. I also ordered the Regular, feeling like I was on a trip. Regular customers kept coming in and out quickly, spinning around the store. The fact that they were running the place by themselves was amazing. Before I knew it, the Curry Rice arrived in just 3 minutes. The contrast between the beautiful fried egg and the curry has a sense of stability. The subtly spicy and deeply flavorful curry with sweet vegetables always gives a unique sense of satisfaction. This traditional restaurant with its beautiful red and white colors saved my lunch. Thank you so much. It was delicious. "I am the worst." After a year, I finally watched it and was impressed. It made me think about many things. Among the movies I've watched last year and this year, it stands out. The main character is a woman named Julie, and femininity is an important theme. If you've been out in society, there's a scene in the movie that resonates with everyone, regardless of age or gender. The title "The worst person in the world" is straightforward and wonderful. The clear chapter numbers and titles make it easy to follow, making it highly recommended. Where will you go tomorrow?

I went there after a long time. The atmosphere is a little different from the past, but the taste and spiciness are still the same as Newcastle. If you have a badge, the person you go with will receive a 200 yen discount as a gift. I will go again with a cute badge.

If you want to eat curry in Ginza, go to Newcastle. But Newcastle doesn't come to Ginza often, so it always feels like a long time since I last visited. Sitting at the counter, it's time to order. The rice here has many options and unique names. You can order a very small amount, which is nice. Let's see, 30 grams is called "Shinagawa" and 60 grams is called "Oi," right? Today, I'll have 60 grams... and I want to add a fried egg, so "extra egg," I think. Did they use that term before? Oh well. I'll have Oi with extra curry and extra egg, please. "Oi, what's that?" Um... the 60-gram one... "Oh, Oi!" "And... extra egg... oh, you mean egg topping?" Oi and extra egg were written on the menu! The curry and the conversation were heartwarming!

I visited the famous curry restaurant "Newcastle" in Ginza for the first time. I have been in Tokyo for about 10 years, but for some reason I never had the chance to visit this place despite hearing about it. On this day, I saw this restaurant featured on a TV show called "Hirunandesu" on NTV and decided to give it a try. When I arrived, the restaurant was full of regular customers chatting with the owner. The TV inside the restaurant was tuned to channel 4, which made me feel a bit embarrassed, but I stayed calm and ordered the "Kamata Small" 180g curry. The rice is served in small portions, which is a nice touch for women. The curry sauce is made with wheat flour and has a thick texture, reminiscent of Showa era curry, which I like. Although it is labeled as spicy, I didn't find it too spicy. It had a nice spice flavor and felt like a traditional Showa curry rice. The fried egg on top was a nice touch. Overall, it was a decent meal. They also seem to recommend their coffee, so I would like to try it next time. Thank you for the meal!

Located in Ginza 2-chome, this coffee and spicy rice restaurant was established in 1946. I had been curious about their "Karai Rice" curry ever since seeing it featured on TV. I visited around 1 pm on a weekday and the restaurant was not crowded, with the owner handling everything alone.
I ordered the regular size Karai Rice (1,200 yen), which comes in various sizes - I chose the 240g regular size, named after a station on the Keihin-Tohoku Line, "Tsunn Kama (Tsunnome-ta Kamata)". The dish came with a half-cooked sunny-side-up egg on top, along with Fukujinzuke and chopped onions on the side.
The curry sauce had a thick consistency, made with pork bone soup, vegetables, fruits, and spices. The first bite tasted slightly sweet, but as I continued eating, a complex spice flavor emerged. Just as it started to get spicy, breaking the egg yolk balanced it out perfectly, making it deliciously mild. I felt the sauce was a bit scarce, so I recommend getting extra sauce next time. I might also try their coffee after the meal next time!

The curry was slightly spicier than the medium spiciness as mentioned by others, and it was delicious. I ordered the regular size for 1,200 yen, but I should have gone for the larger Kawasaki size. The price is a bit high due to being in Ginza, but it's understandable. I would be happier if curry or ramen were priced below 1,000 yen.

During the pandemic, I haven't been able to visit this place for a while, but finally got to enjoy it again thanks to ordering from Amazon. If you're looking for curry in Ginza, this is the place for me. It's still delicious! Today I had a small portion. The balance of fried egg, rice, and curry roux is exquisite! There are similar tasting places, but it's gotta be Newcastle's curry! It's delicious.

The curry with rice and eggs at this place is simple and a bit spicy, but not too spicy for those who don't like spicy food. The portion size is normal and costs 1200 yen. It may seem a bit pricey, but it's worth it. However, the service is a bit slow since it's run by only one person. No plans to come back.

The meeting was held at a rental conference room in Ginza, and I found a restaurant for lunch. The atmosphere was nice and the meal was simple with just curry. The portion size was a bit unclear, but I decided to order the "oomori" (extra large) and it was the right choice. It turned out that the regular size was actually quite large. The curry was spicy, but if it's nearby, I might go there occasionally.

■ Pre-visit evaluation
I visited around 3 pm on a weekday as I had some business in Ginza. There were no other customers before or after me. The concept of the place is a coffee and curry rice (KaraiRice) shop. The shop was established in the early Showa era in 1946. Due to the aging of the building and the Great East Japan Earthquake, the shop temporarily closed in July 2012, but reopened at its current location on June 15, 2013, thanks to the regular customers. The current owner is the 3rd generation.
■ Atmosphere and Service
The interior has a bar-like atmosphere. Although they only serve curry during lunch hours, the evening ambiance feels like a bar. There is only one male owner working. I ordered the REGULAR for 1,000 yen. You can choose the size of the curry, and it was served in about 2 minutes. The curry seemed to be pre-made, as the time taken to make a sunny-side-up egg on top and serve the rice on the plate was about 2 minutes. The curry rice dish is served in a nostalgic old-fashioned container.
■ Taste and Cost Performance
The curry is not a typical spiced curry but a Japanese-style curry with a twist. It has a sweet and spicy flavor. According to my research, they caramelize onions, add pork bone broth, blend vegetables and fruits into a paste, mix and simmer with 15 different spices, and let it sit overnight. The spiciness was quite strong, as I started sweating while eating, so it is default spicy. However, the spiciness has a good kick to it, suitable for those who prefer a certain level of heat in their curry. The restaurant describes their curry rice as "KaraiRice," emphasizing the spiciness. They mentioned it as "moderately spicy." I felt about 60% full after the meal. Priced at 1,000 yen, it is a bit on the higher side, typical of Ginza's high rent prices.
■ Overall
The taste is similar to the curry found in Kanda Curry Grand Prix. It has a unique flavor that might become addictive. I didn't try the coffee this time, but I wonder if they also have a special touch with their coffee.

Curry Restaurant Tsun Kaba is located underground and offers a menu with only one item: Spicy Rice (Karai Rice). The seating includes an 8-seat counter, a 4-person table, and a 6-person table. The background music is a mix of rap and fusion that makes you want to move along. The menu features rice portions named after train stations between Shinagawa and Kamata, but the gram measurements may not be easy to grasp. By comparing with the rice portion at Yoshinoya (250g), it's clear that the portions here are on the smaller side. The curry rice has a familiar Japanese taste with a soft and flavorful roux, served with a wooden spoon. The garlic aroma is noticeable, and the spiciness gradually builds up. Toppings include a sunny-side-up egg, Fukujinzuke (pickles), and freshly chopped onions, adding a nice touch to the dish. The portion size is just right, and the meal is satisfying without needing to make an extra stop.

Located underground in the heart of Ginza, this popular curry restaurant is bustling with regular customers during lunchtime. Established in 1946, the history is old but the taste is new to you, unique to this place. The spicy curry has a simple yet rich flavor with a perfect blend of spices. The recipe, passed down since the founding, involves adding spices to pork bone soup simmered for a long time. The menu offers larger portions as you get closer to Kawasaki, starting from Shinagawa. The price range is usually around 700-1200 yen. The grandpas who seem to have been coming here for ages were enjoying their meals, creating a warm atmosphere in the restaurant.

Today, I went to Newcastle despite being caught in a sudden rain shower. I originally planned to visit a different shop nearby, but the atmosphere of this place was great and the chef's service was excellent. I am very satisfied. The only downside is that I wish there were more toppings available.
