"I visited 'Seafood Bistro Fish Roe House Eni' in Iidabashi, Tokyo (2-9-5 Iidabashi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) today for my 3-month check-up at a certain vascular surgery clinic in the morning. After finishing around noon, it was time for lunch. I noticed that this area is unexpectedly a 'curry paradise.' Despite being in the mood for curry, popular curry spots like Curry Bito, Bawan, and Ippeko were all full. I didn't have the energy to wait in the scorching sun, so I gave up on curry and decided to explore a new restaurant in Iidabashi.
I spotted a restaurant that was just about to open, and my foodie senses were tingling. 'There's a fish roe cuisine specialty restaurant in Iidabashi too...' I peeked at the lunch menu at the storefront and found an interesting curry dish, so I decided to go in without hesitation. The restaurant was stylish, with great service from the female staff, but I couldn't help but feel concerned about the prices being too cheap.
I ordered the following:
- 'Mentaiko Yellow Curry' (850 yen)
- 'Crispy Burdock Salad' (daily special, 100 yen)
- 'Revival!! Eni Pudding' (250 yen)
- 'Iced Coffee' (100 yen)
First, the salad arrived, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion and quality for just 100 yen. The curry, true to a fish roe specialty restaurant, had mentaiko sitting proudly on top of the rice. The combination of coconut-based curry, mentaiko, mushrooms, and shrimp was surprisingly delicious. The curry had a rich umami flavor with mild spiciness, and the subtle spiciness and saltiness of the mentaiko complemented it perfectly. It got me excited with this unique combination.
The pudding, served at the right time, was firm with a strong presence of vanilla beans, which I liked. 'Isn't this place pretty good?' I said, and soon after, female customers started flocking in, quickly filling up both the first and second-floor seats. The curry and pudding were sold out quickly. Later, I found out that this place is a popular spot in the Iidabashi area, even featured in 'Otona no Shumatsu' magazine. The fact that the food here is so delicious and affordable is fantastic. I'm already planning to come back. A great find of an unexpectedly good restaurant.
