- Restaurant Name: Trico Curry - Location: Nakano Station - Budget: Up to 1000 yen - Ordered Menu: Trico Curry Walking about 10 minutes from Nakano Station towards Koenji, you will come across a place with a spicy aroma that indicates you are close to this restaurant. It is easy to miss, so keep an eye out for it. This is a well-known spot for locals living around here, and I highly recommend it to anyone dining or drinking in Nakano or Koenji. The restaurant is described as "the one and only unique Galapagos curry shop" on their food review page, and I must say, it lives up to that reputation. Enjoy their incredibly rich curry. I ordered the Trico Curry (white rice, regular size, normal spiciness). It is curry with seasoned minced beef served on rice. The visual impact is impressive, with the thick curry sauce and a mountain of minced beef. The color scheme on the table is also pleasing to the eye. They blend 8 types of herbs and spices with fruit sauces like mango, peach, and apricot. The slight sweetness amidst the spiciness comes from these ingredients, which makes sense. You can also dilute the curry with the provided soup as you eat. It is that rich. Adjust the flavor to your liking, as they offer a DIY seasoning style. The soup is made with chicken broth, which acts as a palate cleanser. Personally, as a fan of European-style curry, this was right up my alley, it was excellent. It is simmered for a long time, almost to the point where the vegetables dissolve, and the chicken broth adds a mellow touch, making it even more delicious. Towards the end, mixing the minced beef with the curry and eating it Keema curry style is also great. There are various ways to enjoy it, making it a fun dining experience. The default portion size is quite generous, so if you have a small appetite, be cautious. The Caesar salad they offer is delicious. The strong acidity of the whole tomato pairs well with the Caesar salad, and I couldn't help but devour it all at once. You can choose various options such as the type of rice (white or brown), rice quantity (regular 200g, small 100g, large 300g, extra-large 400g), and spiciness of the curry (normal or spicy). They also pay attention to the rice they use, sourcing it from Hitomebore in Miyagi Prefecture and Tsuyahime in Yamagata Prefecture. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is also great, with a subculture vibe and the owner's hobbies adding to the charm. I arrived just before 2 pm on a holiday, and there were only 4 customers. Despite it being the end of lunchtime, it's clear that this place is popular. There are 4 two-seater tables, so it's not very spacious, so be mindful of that. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely be back.

On Wednesday, it was sunny with a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. I had planned to visit "Curry Dokko-chan" at 11:00, but it was already closed. Instead, I crossed the railway tracks and went to the newly opened "Trico Curry" at 12:00. There was a line of regular customers waiting outside due to the relocation. I waited for an hour and when the store opened, there were 8 people in line. I ordered the recommended Pork Cutlet Curry for ¥1,600 with normal spiciness and white rice. The cutlet was crispy, the curry had a Western-style flavor, and the ingredients were finely chopped. The spiciness level was 0, very mild and sweet. After waiting for an hour, I finally got to enjoy the meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

This might be the first time I've ever waited outside for over an hour for curry. Since I waited so long, I decided to get the large size with chicken and cheese toppings. I was wrong to think that I could handle the large size based on the photo from above. I didn't realize it had so much depth. I didn't expect there to be so much rice in the large size. I didn't realize there would be so many toppings. (It was delicious)

My curry-loving husband and I traveled all the way from Nezu near Ueno Zoo. We arrived a little before opening. We had to wait a bit to get in. We started with a simple curry with no toppings and Trico Curry Salad, which was macaroni salad topped with tomato sauce. It was so delicious that I want to try making it myself. The soup we had together seemed to be made with chicken broth. I ended up adding more curry roux to mine halfway through. My husband drank his as it was. Thank you for the meal.

Pipi Curry for 1600 yen (medium spiciness, brown rice, normal rice portion of 300g) with boiled chicken topping for 200 yen. You can also change the flavor of the sauce to make it milder with the chicken soup that comes with it. If you like spicy curry, this might be perfect for you. The amount of vegetables in the curry is incredibly generous. The taste of the curry is average. Toppings are great (satisfied with boiled chicken and vegetables).

I went to Trico Curry in Nakano, where there was a 30% point reward campaign with PayPay. I waited in line outside with 4 other people for about 15 minutes before being seated. I asked the staff for a recommendation and decided to try their Trico Curry, which had plenty of deep-fried vegetables on top. I chose brown rice instead of white rice and opted for a 300g portion. The curry was rich and flavorful, made with chicken broth. The presentation was vibrant and the portion was filling, keeping me satisfied until evening.

Visit date: September 15, 2022 (Thursday) Searched for curry in Nakano, and found a highly rated place on Tabelog that caught my interest, so I decided to visit on a weekday night! Arrived around 7:30 pm. There was only one solo customer in the restaurant. I sat at a two-person table near the entrance. I ordered the curry with lots of ingredients that I had been eyeing from the photos! First, a salad came out with short pasta on the same plate. The sauce, which seemed to be made with tomato cans, had a salsa flavor. Next came the curry! It was truly packed with ingredients, so much so that I regret not taking a photo. For some reason, a chicken broth soup was served as well. I tried it, but felt like it wasn't necessary (laughs). Perhaps the curry was more about enjoying the combination of various ingredients with the sauce rather than just the curry roux itself. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it's a shame that I can't recall it well without photos as time passes. I hope to visit again next time and take proper photos.

During a curry exploration in Nakano, a popular shop with rich curry: Trico Curry. Located along the railway tracks between Koenji Station and Nakano Station, this shop exudes a homemade feel. Established in 1998 in Fukuoka, the owner operated a restaurant before opening Trico Curry in his 30s. After running a curry shop in Fukuoka for over a decade, he closed the shop and moved to Tokyo. In 2010, he reopened in Setagaya under the name Pipi Curry. After another temporary closure, the shop reopened in its current location in 2014 as Trico Curry in Nakano. Situated in a residential area with few eateries by the railway side, the shop is marked by its red signage on tin and plywood panels, with a distinctive red door. The menu features seven types of curry, each served with a salad. Trico Curry specializes only in curry, with its signature Trico Curry featuring ground meat since its establishment. Other curry options include Taco Rice-style Taco Curry, Chicken Curry with boiled chicken, and the popular Pipi Curry, which varies with over 10 types of vegetables cooked differently each time. Customers can choose between white or brown rice, both sourced from Miyagi and Yamagata prefectures, respectively. Rice portions come in large, regular, or small sizes, with men typically opting for the regular 200g portion. Customers can also choose between regular or spicy levels of heat, with all curry dishes served with salad. The Pipi Curry, for example, can be ordered with regular white rice and a soft-boiled egg topping. The salad, featuring salsa and pasta, provides a satisfying start while waiting for the curry. The curry arrives in a large plate piled high with vegetables, including lotus root, eggplant, pumpkin, turnip, tomato, asparagus, garlic sprouts, paprika, corn, edamame, black beans, avocado, shishito pepper, sweet potato, enoki mushrooms, and carrot salad. A total of 16 types of vegetables are topped on the curry, each meticulously prepared to complement the dish. The Trico Curry is known for its incredibly rich and flavorful curry roux, which boasts a heavy and spicy taste with hints of mango, peach, and apricot sweetness. The curry contains eight types of spices and herbs, resulting in a distinct spiciness in the spicy version. Mixing the curry thoroughly reveals a thick and creamy texture that melts in the mouth, releasing a burst of herb aromas. Despite its Western-style taste, the curry is exceptionally heavy and may be too rich for some. Trico Curry offers a unique dining experience with its rich and complex flavors, making it a must-visit for curry enthusiasts.

I heard that my favorite curry restaurant in Nakano, Tokyo might be closing down, so I decided to come and eat there. When I arrived, there was a line outside during lunchtime. I ordered the pork cutlet curry with extra brown rice. The curry was as rich as ever, with a unique sweetness and flavor from fruits and spices. I enjoyed it as it was at first, and then turned it into a hearty soup-like dish by adding chicken soup towards the end. Despite being very filling, I finished it in no time. This curry rice, unlike any other, is a must-try dish that I highly recommend.

Around halfway between Koenji and Nakano. I walked in the heat. Entered around 1:30 pm on Saturday. No waiting required. Currently, it seems that the lunch hours end at 2 pm, so I was worried about the last order time, but it seems they will accept you if you enter by 2 pm. The interior of the restaurant is small but bright and stylish with a blue color scheme. There are various writings and posters on the walls that make you look around. Octopus curry for ¥1200. You can choose to have brown rice in a small portion, a large salad, and medium-spicy rice as a small portion, and in return, the salad can be served in a large portion. It was my first time, so I thought I would go for the regular Toriko curry, but I was drawn to the attractive content and illustrations. First came the salad. It was like a Mexican Caesar salad? Delicious dressing. Is this a large portion? The curry comes in a small portion of 100g, so it may seem a bit small, but it has plenty of minced meat, chicken, lots of cabbage, and cheese for a satisfying volume. Even though it's a small portion, there's plenty of curry sauce, so you can enjoy it thoroughly. The curry is quite rich, but personally, I found it a bit salty. It became just right after adding the chicken soup that came with it. Rather than the spices standing out, I felt it was a rich and fruity European-style curry, so I think there won't be anyone who dislikes it. It was medium-spicy, but the spiciness wasn't too strong, so it might be okay for those who prefer spicy food. Maybe the cheese and cabbage mellowed out the spiciness? I should have added avocado toppings. It would have been amazing. The octopus curry is a complete nutritional curry with vegetables, meat, and rice. I want to go back to eat it again. The background music in the restaurant was "Sayonara Ningen" (Goodbye Humans). It's the one where humans first arrive on Jupiter. Nostalgic.

Trico Curry is a pure Japanese-style curry that blends 8 types of herbs and spices with fruit sauces like mango and peach, creating a rich and flavorful curry. I arrived 15 minutes before the holiday opening and was the 4th person in line. The group before me had 3 people, so I was practically the 2nd in line. There were still empty seats at opening time, so it seems like there's no need to arrive too early. However, there was a line of about 5 people by the time I left, so around noon might be the best time to visit. I ordered the Pippi Curry (1600 yen) with boiled chicken (200 yen) which had over 10 types of seasonal vegetables, nuts, dried fruits, and mushrooms on top of the curry, along with the boiled chicken (chicken breast) added. The rice portion was a regular male serving (200g) with medium spiciness. Previously, the male serving was 300g, but now it's 200g. The amount of vegetables and chicken on top of the rice and curry was overwhelming. Additionally, it came with a salad and soup (for adjusting the curry's flavor). If you choose a small rice portion, you can get a large salad. Also, if you skip the salad, you can increase the rice portion. They are quite flexible! I was thinking I should have gone for the 300g rice, but with the abundance of vegetables, 200g was enough in the end. The boiled chicken portion was also sufficient, providing a good amount of protein. The curry had a rich and slightly spicy taste with a mix of richness and sweetness, so ordering it spicy might have been a good choice. It has a thick and sticky texture, but adding the soup makes it smoother. Personally, I prefer it without the soup. It looks like a rich version of homemade curry. If this restaurant was nearby, I would definitely visit regularly as it's a curry that can become addictive. As described, it's a curry that Japanese people would love. As you may know, Japanese curry is also delicious!

Intense! Generous! Great value for money. I had the CoCo Ichibanya curry with cheese topping, which came with a salad. The salad included Caesar, macaroni, and tomato. I'm not a fan of macaroni, but I managed to eat it. You can choose between white or brown rice, and I went for brown rice with a normal portion of curry, opting for a spicy level. The cheese was plentiful and the flavor was intense. They also provided soup to adjust the thickness of the curry. Even with all the soup added, it was still thick. The portion was too much and I ended up feeling full. My partner had the pork cutlet curry with a large portion of white rice. The pork had a unique spice aroma and interesting flavor, with a large serving size. It was delicious and great value for money, but I probably won't go back. It seems like a place that fans would enjoy!

They have raised the prices and reduced the amount of rice. Previously, the portion sizes ranged from 250g to 500g, with options for free upgrades up to 400g for men. Currently, the regular portion for men is 200g, with free upgrades up to 400g. The cheese topping for the curry used to be around 1550 yen, but now it's around 1800 yen. The exact prices are forgotten. The taste hasn't changed and the owner's attitude remains the same. With the price increase, the cost per person is close to 2000 yen, making other options more appealing. On some days, there was no line outside. While the reduced rice serving is understandable, it would be more acceptable if the prices remained the same or if the rice serving stayed the same with a price increase. Being hit with both changes at once makes it feel significantly more expensive.

Tricurry Nakano is an old curry restaurant. It was originally founded in Fukuoka in 1998, and has been operating in Nakano since 2014. It is located on the north side of Nakano Station, not towards Nakano Broadway but along the train tracks towards Koenji, about 7-8 minutes away. The restaurant is a simple wooden house. The popular curry dish is the Pipika Curry by Tricurry. It is made with over 10 types of vegetables, all of which are either deep-fried or boiled, allowing you to enjoy the natural deliciousness of the vegetables. The curry is served with a generous amount of rice, even when ordering a normal portion. It is described as suitable for women to eat, but for someone with a bit of a belly, it is quite a lot. This seems like a portion size meant for students. However, the curry is rich and packed with vegetables, so you won't end up with leftover rice and can enjoy a fulfilling meal. The curry is so rich that you can pour chicken broth over it and eat it like a soup. A salad is also served with the meal. Despite the generous portion, you can still enjoy a healthy meal with plenty of vegetables. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the good old days when students used to frequent the curry restaurant, but the area is currently undergoing redevelopment, with many old shops closing down and homes being demolished. There is hardly anyone around in the early evening. The restaurant's Twitter account suggests that they are considering their future and direction. It's quite sad. It seems that we can't go back to the good old days. Please do your best as much as you can. We are rooting for you.

Recently, I have been getting into a cycle of repeating visits to places that are not too far from my home or office and within the range of my commuter pass. When I was in Nakano, I used to visit Doppo-chan and Baghdad-san repeatedly, and in Koenji, there are so many shops that I am still exploring new ones. So, even though it had been 2 years since my last visit due to the distance from the station, after seeing the shop owner's tweet, I decided to visit for the second time today. Arriving 5 minutes early, there were already 5 people waiting!! I was worried about how many seats they had, but I made it as the 6th person in line. The 3 people who lined up behind me had to wait for the second round. Currently, there are only 4 tables with 2 seats each and only 1 seat at the counter. As a measure for preventing infection, they only allow a maximum of 5 people inside because they don't seat multiple parties together. Since it's almost halfway between Nakano and Koenji, it's also difficult to come up with a Plan B, so it was a good decision to arrive a little early. Last time, I had the regular size pork cutlet curry, so this time I decided to order the daily curry (topped with chicken and cheese). I chose the small portion of rice and requested it to be spicy. For men, the regular size is 300g, and the small portion is 200g, which is equivalent to the regular size for women. Even though I ordered the small portion of rice, the plate is large and there is also a large portion of salad, so make sure not to leave any food uneaten! There is a 500 yen fine for leftovers, so be careful. The salad was served immediately after ordering. It consisted of several types of lettuce and greens, twisted macaroni, Caesar dressing, and salsa sauce, which was delicious and had a sufficient amount as a pre-meal salad, providing a high level of satisfaction. About 10 minutes after ordering, the curry was served. Trico Curry's curry is a super rich European-style curry. This time, it came with minced meat and the daily topping of chicken and cheese. The chicken was boiled and lightly shredded, with a decent amount placed on top. The seasoning is simple, with maybe a little salt, but it's mostly plain. They also provide chicken soup to dilute the rich curry halfway through, which makes it easier to eat and enjoyable with a change in flavor and texture. The curry is really rich and delicious, with a good level of spiciness and a variety of spices. The minced meat topping is mildly seasoned and goes well with the spiciness. With such delicious ingredients, multiple toppings, and a satisfying salad, all for 900 yen, it's truly a great value and a price to be grateful for. ★Attention to directions from Nakano Station: Starting from May 6th, the street along the north side of the tracks will be closed for construction, so you will need to take a detour to the street in front of the Kirin headquarters and the Meiji University building. Therefore, if you are going from Nakano Station, it's best to exit from the south gate, walk straight along the street parallel to the tracks, pass through the guard gate located just 20m toward Koenji, and you will reach Trico Curry in the shortest time possible.

I visited for lunch on Sunday! I had been curious about this place for a while but finally got the chance to visit. The weather was bad and it was a late lunch time, so I was seated quickly. The operation was run by the owner and two female staff members. I ordered the Pipi Curry (spicy) in a regular size. I chose the spicy option because the vegetable presentation looked good. The curry arrived after the salad, with a vibrant display of over 10 types of vegetables and beans. The curry was hidden under the vegetables, so it wasn't visible at first. I opted for brown rice for a healthier choice. When there was about 1/3 left, I mixed in the chicken soup for a different flavor. As mentioned in reviews, the portion was quite generous, but I managed to finish it while enjoying the different flavors. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

Located in the middle between Nakano Station and Koenji Station, along the northern side of the tracks (a little closer to Nakano). I arrived at 12:02 on a Sunday just after the opening, and the place was already full. Due to the current situation with COVID-19, only groups of up to 2 people are allowed to enter. It was my first time, so I asked the staff for recommendations. Menu items: - Pipi Curry ¥1,400 (popular menu item) [Toppings] - Soft-boiled egg ¥100 - Cheese ¥150 - Boiled chicken ¥200 (popular menu item) You can choose between white rice and brown rice, and the portion sizes are 400g (large), 300g (regular), and 200g (small). I asked for 250g and it was fine. While waiting, I noticed a sign on the counter offering "free chicken skin," so I asked for that as well. When the dishes arrived, I got a bit nervous as I could see the portions were quite large. After about 10 minutes, the Pipi Curry was served. [Impressions] - Appetizer Salad: A good amount for a mini salad, with a nice French and tomato double sauce. - Pipi Curry: A flavorful European-style curry, spicy but not too much. The highlight was the variety of over 10 different vegetables, each cooked perfectly. - Toppings: The cheese wasn't necessary as the curry wasn't very spicy. The boiled chicken was tasty, but the free chicken skin was more than enough. The soft-boiled egg was average. - Dipping Sauce: A chicken skin-based sauce to add to the curry, providing a subtle flavor change. - Other: The walls were decorated with posters of "Bagdad Cafe" and the restroom had a poster of "Amelie," which I asked the female staff about and she mentioned it was the owner's preference. The owner, who had been quiet the whole time, quietly thanked me as I left, which made me happy. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Thank you for the meal!

It's a 7-8 minute walk from the station to a curry restaurant that stands alone. The door of the shop has various posters, making it a bit intimidating to enter, but once inside, it's a friendly place. I ordered today's lunch for 900 yen, which was chicken and cheese curry. You can choose the amount of rice and spiciness, so I chose normal rice with a bit of spiciness. First, a salad was served, which was quite generous. The curry was served quickly, and I was told that if it's too thick, I can mix it with a broth-like liquid that was provided. It was my first time experiencing this, but when I took a bite of the curry, I understood the richness. I added the broth and tried it alone, it tasted like chicken soup. On top of the curry, there were plenty of steamed chicken, cheese, and sweetened minced meat. The curry didn't have a special taste, more like a Western-style curry, but it was very rich, so I ate it while occasionally mixing it with the broth. There was quite a lot of food, and I finished it feeling full. Thank you for the meal.

I had some business in Higashi-Nakano on this day and stopped by this restaurant for lunch afterwards. It had been a while since I had come further than Shinjuku on the Sobu Line. I arrived at 11:48 on a Saturday, with only one customer ahead of me. The daily ECO lunch special was written on the blackboard as minced meat and cheese. I had originally planned to order the Taco Curry for 1,100 yen, but ended up choosing the daily ECO lunch for 900 yen. The restaurant opened at 11:58, earlier than the scheduled time. At that point, there were already three people waiting. After sanitizing my hands, I was seated at a table for two and ordered the daily ECO lunch with white rice, spicy. They explained that if I ordered a small portion of rice, I could upgrade the salad to a large portion, but I opted for a regular size. As I looked around the restaurant while waiting, I noticed a sign requesting customers to eat quietly and not to waste the free rice or unlimited side dishes. I appreciated that the restaurant prioritized its customers by allowing natural conversation without masks in the small space. The signs and the staff's natural explanations to customers were impressive. Although it should be common sense not to waste the free rice and side dishes, the signs were likely put up because some customers had left food uneaten. The salad arrived shortly after I ordered, followed by the curry and chicken soup after about 5 minutes. The chicken soup was meant for adjusting the curry's richness. The curry was topped with minced meat, cheese, and fibrous chicken breast. Although the menu mentioned minced meat and cheese, the addition of boiled chicken (fibrous chicken breast) was a pleasant surprise. Despite ordering a small portion of rice (200g), it was quite a generous serving. The rice was accompanied by two pieces of pickled radish and Fukujinzuke. The salad consisted of mizuna, arugula, lettuce, and fusilli with homemade tomato sauce and Caesar dressing. The restaurant's signboard introduced the curry as "Japanese curry with a unique flavor profile blending 8 herbs and spices with mango, peach, apricot, and other fruit sauces." The menu also mentioned that the curry was rich in flavor and could be customized with the chicken soup. I was curious about the curry and found it to be very delicious. While I couldn't discern the flavors of mango, peach, and apricot, I could taste the sweetness of the vegetables and fruits. It was moderately spicy for a Western-style curry, and I personally found the richness to be just right. I enjoyed about half of it as it was, and then added the chicken soup to the remaining half to dilute the curry. The flavor remained consistent even after dilution. The combination of minced meat, boiled chicken, and cheese was excellent, with the boiled chicken being a standout for me. I had thought "Toriko" in Toriko Curry meant "captive," given the word was on the menu. While it likely does carry that meaning, it may also refer to the tricolor aspect of the dish. That was the interior of the restaurant. To be honest, the restaurant was overwhelmingly wonderful compared to what I had imagined, and it left me feeling happy. It's no surprise that the place had a good turnout of customers. I'm already thinking about what to order next time, but I definitely won't skip the boiled chicken topping. Thank you for the meal.

Daily Eco Lunch / ¥900 I initially failed to get a seat as it was full a few minutes after opening at noon on a weekday. I learned from my mistake and lined up before opening to secure a spot on my second try. The salad side dish was delicious. I ordered the regular portion curry with brown rice and normal spiciness. The curry was thick and rich, with a unique method of diluting it with chicken soup. It was topped with chicken breast meat, giving it a heavy and satisfying texture. There was a hint of sweetness from vegetables and fruits as well. Surprisingly, even though it was a regular portion, there was a lot of rice. It was very tasty, but next time I'll order a small portion with extra spiciness.

After leaving Nakano station and walking towards Koenji (Kan-Nana) along the railway tracks, you will find the desired shop in a residential area after a few minutes. Above the red door is the red sign "TRICO". A red Vespa adds to the nice atmosphere. I arrived at "Toriko Curry". It was a weekday afternoon, and there were three people in line, waiting for about 5 minutes. The staff guided us inside the slightly tight space, with blue walls and yellow tables giving it a warm and cozy feel, like a foreign diner. I ordered the Pipi Curry for 1400 yen, customized with brown rice, a small portion, and extra spicy. The salad was a mix of leafy greens and macaroni pasta, with two dressings - a tangy yogurt-based French dressing and a tomato-based sauce. It was a colorful and hearty dish, featuring seasonal vegetables like sweet potatoes, avocados, mini tomatoes, bell peppers, eringi mushrooms, bean sprouts, green beans, black beans, pumpkins, lotus roots, turnips, corn, shishito peppers, and more, along with carrot slaw, achar, and peach compote. The curry had a thick and clay-like texture, with a slightly spicy and fruity flavor. The brown rice was cooked firm, complementing the thick curry well. It was an interesting and delicious meal, and I look forward to revisiting to try other items on the menu. Thank you for the meal!
