On a Saturday afternoon just past 2pm, the restaurant was almost full but we were able to get a table right away as some customers had just finished their meal. We shared a lunch set for three people, so we were able to try all the different curries. You can choose the level of spiciness from 1 to 7. The chicken curry had lots of chunks of meat and the seasoning was easy to enjoy for everyone. The mutton curry also had plenty of meat chunks (which was a pleasant surprise as some places skimp on the meat). The unique aroma of the mutton was delicious. The keema curry had a rich flavor that paired well with the saffron rice. The spinach and eggplant curry had a light taste with a good amount of vegetables, almost like a soup. The chickpea curry had plenty of beans for a satisfying texture. The naan bread was freshly baked and piping hot, very tasty. You can also opt for cheese naan, which was incredibly rich with lots of cheese. It seemed challenging to finish a whole piece on your own, but it was delicious!

South Indian Thali, Chicken Curry, and Paratha were chosen. The Rasam had a good balance of aroma, acidity, and spiciness, which I really liked! The Sambar was also delicious. I should have asked for seconds. The Chicken Curry had large chunks of chicken and was a bit heavy. The Paratha had a slightly sweet taste, which I enjoyed. One disappointing aspect was the rice, which was mushy. It was a blend of Japanese rice, but it had too much moisture and ended up with a very soft texture, almost like okayu when paired with the curry.

I landed at Nishikasai~! This time, I ordered the weekend-only Paneer Masala Dosa! It's rare to find a place where you can have Paneer Dosa for lunch, so I was really happy. And not only that, it also came with Chicken Tikka and Wada, what a luxurious treat. I finished everything in no time. Each dish was full of flavorful spices, and I loved that they weren't tailored to Japanese taste preferences. ☺️

The "Uthappam" mentioned in the title is like an Indian version of okonomiyaki, made by mixing finely chopped vegetables (in this case, we chose onions) with wheat flour batter and cooking it. It was quite spicy due to the chopped onions and the soup-like accompaniment. The dosa, on the other hand, was a hit with three times more spicy potato filling than what I am used to. I would like to try the butter chicken curry or mutton curry next time.

I went to Kolkata, an Indian restaurant located about 5 minutes from Nishi-Oi Station. I ordered the Dosa set for 1450 yen from the weekend lunch menu. The Dosa was filled with spiced minced meat, and the dough was crispy, chewy, and slightly sweet. I'm not sure of the correct way to eat it, but it was refreshing compared to North Indian cuisine.

It's been a while since I visited Godfather's restaurant. The north entrance serves North Indian cuisine, while the south entrance serves South Indian cuisine - it's easy to tell them apart (laughs). Personally, I always go for the Madras Thali. It's not too spicy and not too flashy, but it's always delicious whenever I eat it. Godfather's is truly the best.

I visited for lunch on my day off. I ordered two types of curry, one from North India and one from South India. The North Indian curry was lamb and prawn, but personally I found the South Indian thali to be more delicious. It came with a variety of side dishes, which made me very satisfied.

This year as well, thank you for your continued support. December was a month where I made the most of the PayPay 30% discount. I had a craving for South Indian dosa, so I came to this place. The dosa lunch is over 1000 yen. The naan curry set starts from 950 yen. I'll mention again, naan is not commonly eaten in India. I don't want to fill up on naan... Come to think of it, I also had dosa at Govindas in Funabori. So, I tried a different menu item, the idli set for 780 yen. The vada (like a croquette) is also the same price. Idli is a white steamed cake made from beans and rice flour, served with sambar (a curry-flavored soup drunk instead of miso soup in India) and tomato-coconut chutney on the side. It seems salad is not included, but since it was not busy, they kindly provided it as a service. I poured the sambar soup over the tasteless idli cake and enjoyed it. The sambar includes carrots, onions, and daikon, making it completely vegetarian-friendly. It feels authentic and interesting, but it's more like a breakfast in India or Nepal, so for those who want a hearty lunch, I recommend the dosa lunch. Honestly, idli doesn't taste or feel great, it's like a bland steamed bread, not very delicious. I recommend the vada instead.

I was invited by a friend to go eat Masala Dosa, and this place is known for South Indian cuisine! I heard that there can be long lines, but we were able to get in easily right after opening on a weekday. The portion and spiciness were more than I expected, and it was very satisfying. It's so big that it almost fills the table! It has an attraction-like aspect. The texture is crispy, more like the edge of a dumpling rather than a crepe, and you can eat it without dipping it in the sauce. Especially for women, make sure to go on an empty stomach!

In October 2022, at a restaurant in Nishikasai, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo, there is no parking lot. Nishikasai is a town with many Indian restaurants, with a Food Score of 3.49 on Tabelog. I ordered the A-LUNCH for 950 yen, which included today's special shrimp curry, naan, salad, and lassi. The naan was not greasy and quite tasty. The curry was not too spicy and tasted good. The lassi was served without ice, which was nice. Overall, the flavors did not leave a lasting impression, but the meal was not heavy. It could be a good option when you crave curry but don't want something too heavy, like when you've had too much to drink the day before or are feeling a bit queasy. I'm curious about trying the tandoori chicken next time. Thank you for the meal.

After a long time, I visited the Godfather's Minamiguchi store in Nishikasai, and had a holiday dosa. I heard that it was originally started to provide accommodation for Indian SEs who came to Japan to deal with the Y2K problem and were living in hotels, feeling sorry for them. They became guarantors for their rooms and started a cafeteria for those who lived alone and didn't cook. The direction is still the same. It's not about positioning in the Indian cuisine market or differentiation, but about a relaxed atmosphere that feels like a part of the daily life of South Indian people in the South Gate and North Indian people in the North Gate. It's a wonderful restaurant.

I wanted to eat Indian curry so I revisited after a long time. I chose the lunch set which came with a side dish, and I chose samosas because I love them. The spices in the Indian curry were amazing. I would love to visit again.

I visited an Indian restaurant near Nishi-Oi Station South Exit for lunch after a check-up appointment six months after surgery. I couldn't eat spicy food due to doctor's orders, so I tried to go to Capricciosa in front of the station but it was too crowded. I ended up at this Indian restaurant where they served salad and water before taking our order. I chose the A Lunch set which came with a choice of curry, salad, naan or rice, and a drink. I chose shrimp curry and lassi. The staff recommended naan over rice, and the curry was probably made with normal spiciness as I wasn't asked about the level of spiciness. The lassi was delicious and when the shrimp curry and naan arrived, I found the naan to be hot and crispy. The curry had a nice balance of spices and was filled with plump shrimp. I had a relaxing lunch with no plans after taking time off for my check-up appointment.

At Spice Magic Calcutta Minamiguchi, you can enjoy both North Indian and South Indian cuisine. I went for dinner and ordered a lassi (2090 yen) in case things got too spicy, which came with papad. The main course arrived, which was very luxurious with saffron rice and even three puris (fried bread). The rasam was spicy but tasty, and all the side dishes and curries were also delicious, although many were quite spicy. I managed to finish the rice, but couldn't eat two of the puris, so they kindly packed them up for me to take home. Lunch is a bit cheaper, so I would like to try it next time.

I went to the main store the other day, but I was curious about the South Exit store, so I came here this time. One big difference is that they have South Indian lunch here. I'm not very familiar with curries and spices, so even though I looked at the menu, nothing really stood out to me, and in the end, I went with the B set just like at the main store. And the curry was also the same as at the main store, with chicken and mutton spinach (laughs). They asked me about the spiciness, so I went with Hot for the chicken. The naan here doesn't have the oily surface like at the main store, so if you're eating it on its own, I'd recommend the main store, but this one also complements the curry well. I might actually prefer the curry here. The chicken curry with Hot spice level was just right. The gradually accumulating spiciness is irresistible. The mutton spinach here is more on the creamy side compared to the slightly firmer texture at the main store, and when it comes to spinach, this is the way to go! As for the tandoori chicken, I thought the main store's was much better, but overall, I would recommend this place. The person next to me was eating dosa, so next time, I'll gather up the courage to try it too.

I went to the restaurant for lunch alone on a regular day. There was one customer ahead of me at 11:30. I ordered the Butter Masala Set with chicken. Before I placed my order, I was served water and salad. They also offered me a lassi, but I don't like sweet drinks so I didn't touch it (sorry!). The curry and cheese naan were both rich in butter flavor as stated on the menu. The amount of cheese was slightly more than average (based on my personal experience). I recommend this menu for when you're in the mood for cheese and butter flavors.

I entered the restaurant for lunch. The interior was a bit crowded. I ordered the lunch set. I chose the chicken and mutton curry for the two options. I was happy that papadum was included. It was delicious, but I felt it lacked a bit of richness. Since it was spicy, I think it would have been better if the flavor was a bit more mellow. Thank you for the meal.

Today was a rare day working from home. For lunch, I went to the Calcutta Minamiguchi restaurant. I was seated at a small table near the entrance. I ordered the Madras Thali, which came with chicken curry and hot chai for my drink. The customers sitting across from me were two businessmen watching the Olympics on the TV above our table. The table was a bit wobbly, so be careful if you sit at this spot. I started with the salad, followed by the Thali. The rasam had a strong garlic flavor, while the sambar had a rich taste of lentils. The poriyal with green beans and broccoli was a satisfying side dish. The curry had large pieces of chicken, which I enjoyed with the paratha. I mixed everything together and finished it all. The hot chai was a nice way to end the meal. The flavors seemed even better than before, which made me happy. Now, I need to get back to work in the afternoon...

There is an Indian restaurant with branches at the north and south exits of Nishi-Ogikubo Station. I visited the south exit branch during lunchtime on a weekday. There were only about two groups of customers ahead of me, so I was able to enter without waiting. I was initially thinking of having a simple chicken curry, but then I came across something called the Butter Masala Set. It included curry, cheese naan, salad, and a drink for 1600 yen. The curry options were Chicken Butter Masala and Paneer Butter Masala, and as a cheese lover, I chose the Paneer Butter Masala. Before I could even place my order, water and salad were brought to the table. The salad was the typical type you see, but the vegetables seemed a bit dry, and the sesame dressing was a bit watery, which was disappointing. The cheese naan that arrived shortly after was the most honey-filled cheese naan I've ever had, giving me the sensation of eating Quattro Formaggi. It was sweet due to the generous honey, but with plenty of cheese and hints of saltiness where the honey was sparse, it was quite enjoyable. I had planned to dip it in the curry, but then I realized it was delicious on its own, so I ended up eating about 3/4 of it without the curry. The Paneer Butter Masala was rich in cottage cheese chunks, and while it had a mild and buttery flavor, the name "Spice Magic" in the restaurant's name was evident in the variety of spices used. Despite not being very spicy, it made me break a sweat. I've been told by Indian and Nepalese acquaintances that "spices and spiciness are different, so using a lot of spices doesn't necessarily make it spicy," and I think this is what they meant. The lassi I had after the meal was lightly sweetened and had a refreshing taste, which balanced the meal nicely. I would be happy if they added Palak Paneer to the menu for lunch. Overall, I was quite satisfied with the restaurant, and I would like to visit again if I'm in the area. Thank you for the meal.
