I asked for a recommendation for a lunch spot in Kamata and was introduced to "Tempura Suzuki," so I went there before I forgot. After exiting the west exit of JR Kamata Station and walking straight down the covered arcade street, I found "Tempura Suzuki." The classy exterior of the restaurant was a pleasant surprise, and I was happy to find out that they also serve lunch here. Before taking a seat, make sure to purchase a meal ticket from the ticket vending machine. This time, I splurged on the "Seasonal Set Meal (1,500 yen)." It seems like you can enjoy 8 types of freshly fried tempura according to the season. I was guided to a seat at the counter in the shape of a "C" and waited for a few minutes while checking the blackboard on the wall for today's ingredients. First, rice, miso soup, tempura dipping sauce, and a half-boiled egg tempura were served. Starting with a half-boiled egg tempura with sauce was unexpected. It was so delicious that I couldn't stop eating the rice. Tempura was brought to the counter tray one after another. First, shrimp. It's well-known as the king of tempura. Though a bit small, it was sweet and tasty. Since salt was provided on the counter, I recommend using salt over the dipping sauce. The two green items were mackerel and horse mackerel wrapped in plum and large leaf. Come to think of it, it might be my first time having mackerel tempura. It was thick and had a good bite. The horse mackerel wrapped in plum and large leaf had a juicy texture with the right amount of fat and the refreshing taste of plum. Shiitake mushroom and shrimp tempura had a thick shiitake mushroom with fluffy shrimp tempura, offering a gentle umami flavor. The new potato cream cheese was a bit unusual, but it was a perfect match. The smooth and rich taste was delightful. Surprisingly, it went well with the dipping sauce. Lastly, two vegetable tempura. Mini tomato and shishito pepper both paired well with oil, making them suitable for tempura. Just be careful with the mini tomato as it can be hot. For 1,500 yen, being able to enjoy freshly fried tempura like this is cost-effective. It's a nice way to indulge in a luxurious lunch experience.
