I had eel bowl at the izakaya called "Nomadette" in front of Kita-Hachioji Station on the JR Hachiko Line after 11:30 as usual this year. The lunch service starts at 11:30, and I was a little late. There were no customers when I arrived, but it was almost full before noon as it is a popular place. The eel bowl costs 800 yen for one piece, 1200 yen for 1.5 pieces, and regular set meals are 500 yen, making it a very affordable izakaya lunch. I ordered the 1.5-piece eel bowl with a side dish of chicken karage for 400 yen. In about 7-8 minutes, the eel bowl, side dishes, miso soup, and the karage plate were served. The eel bowl usually has a smaller portion of 1 piece, but that day it had thick, large pieces of eel that were exceptionally delicious. I sprinkled plenty of sansho pepper and enjoyed it. I also tried the karage for the first time, which was crispy and delicious like Tatsutaage. I finished it all in one go. Smoking is allowed even during lunchtime, so there may be some smoke, but it has improved compared to the past.

I visited a bar in front of Kita-Hachioji Station in July 2023 that offers super cheap lunch specials. Despite the sweltering heat, I made the effort to visit. I arrived around 12:25 and the counter was almost full. The menu for the day included: - Seafood bowl for 500 yen - Fried chicken set for 500 yen - Char siu (roast pork) set for 500 yen - Eel bowl (1 tail) for 800 yen Even if you upgrade to 2 tails of eel, it's only 1600 yen, which seems to be very popular. As a fan of char siu, I ordered the char siu set. The char siu set came with about 6 slices of braised pork, a braised egg, and a generous portion of rice, miso soup with eggplant, and a tofu side dish, all for 500 yen. The braised pork was likely made from pork leg or shoulder, and while it was a bit dry, it was a good deal for the price. The messy boiled egg added a charming touch. Next time, I'd like to try the eel bowl (1.5 tails) for 1200 yen. The place has a deep atmosphere and seems to be picky about its customers, but it's a very popular and thriving establishment.

Unadon / ¥800 - Despite being cheap, it comes with a whole eel on top. It is tender and juicy, with no small bones to worry about. The bucket-like bowl is filled with rice, almost like a large serving at other restaurants, making it very satisfying. The miso soup may seem a bit light at first, but it's just right after the rich eel. Other lunch menu items are only ¥500, which is a steal. There are also various daily specials. Highly recommended if you don't mind the smell of cigarettes.

I arrived around 11:30 and there was already one group of customers. After that, more and more customers came in and the restaurant was almost full. It seems they only serve lunch on weekdays, so it was quite crowded. I ordered a 1.5 serving of eel bowl for 1,200 yen. It came with 3 pieces even though it was supposed to be for 1.5 people. It's rare to find an eel restaurant where you can eat this cheaply. The eel was soft and delicious, coated in a tasty sauce. I sprinkled some sansho pepper on top at the table and enjoyed it with different flavors.

I visited the restaurant at 11:30 am on a weekday. There was one customer before me, but no one after. I ordered the eel bowl lunch for 800 yen. I thought I was the first customer, but there was someone before me. The eel bowl was served shortly after ordering. The eel was not that big but tasted good considering the price. You can add more eel for an extra cost, which is flexible. The rice portion was satisfying. The miso soup with clams was delicious. The side dish was simmered daikon radish and tripe. Overall, it was a good value for a tasty eel bowl. Next time, I'll try the one-coin seafood bowl. Thank you for the meal.

It seems like the main focus of this place is izakaya, but they also serve lunch which is quite reasonable. The eel bowl is cheap - you can order it for 1 person, 1.5 people, or 2 people. I ordered the 2-person portion. It may not compare to high-end eel restaurants, but it's a good deal - 2 portions for 1600 yen, while 1 portion is 800 yen. It might be better to order two 1-person portions. It comes with rice, miso soup, and pickles. They also have seafood bowls and grilled fish. The master verbally explains the lunch menu options. I left feeling full after eating the eel.

I read MYF's review and couldn't wait to try it myself. The coin parking lots around were all full, but luckily I found one a bit further away that was empty. It was just before lunchtime and I was fortunate to find a seat at the counter. I had been debating whether to get the seafood bowl or the eel, and ultimately decided on the eel (1 piece for 800 yen). The eel is not cooked with fire as it is served raw, but you can buy a frozen eel of this size at the supermarket for 800 yen. The kind father working there took orders without a break, but it did take some time. The appetizer, yellowtail daikon, had a light taste but a strong dashi flavor that made me want to drink sake. Then came the eel bowl. The eel was not thin despite being cheap, and it cut easily with chopsticks. Many people asked for less rice, but the bowl was filled with rice. It was cooked firm, covered in sauce, and I could finish all the rice with just the eel. The miso soup was also delicious. The bottom of the bowl was cracked, causing the sauce to drip, but it added to the charm. Overall, it was a very satisfying lunch. The regulars around me, who seemed to be office workers, ordered dishes like fried horse mackerel or chicken karaage, while the women ordered seafood bowls. The fried dishes seemed to be pre-made and were served quickly. I would like to try a fish dish next time.

This restaurant offers delicious una-don (eel bowl) with 2 slices for 800 yen, 3 slices for 1200 yen, and 4 slices for 1600 yen. The eel is thick and fluffy, providing a satisfying texture. They also serve affordable seafood bowls, chashu (roast pork) set meals, and fried horse mackerel set meals for 500 yen each. Please note that smoking is allowed inside the restaurant.

I had the seafood bowl and eel bowl when the restaurant first opened. Since then, I haven't been able to go for lunch due to various reasons like the pandemic. I'm happy that they are open for lunch again. Next time, I want to try the grilled fish set meal!
