Curry Exploration in Kamata Nishiguchi, Multi-Indian Edition
After a long time, I visited a popular curry restaurant during lunchtime in Kamata to take care of some errands. Kamata has its own unique charm as the gyoza (dumpling) town, but it also offers great curry. This time, I visited a renowned restaurant that has been in business for over 20 years near Kamata Nishiguchi. Beyond the terminal, I walked along the main street and turned right into two side streets. The restaurant is located on the third floor of a building at a corner in the alley. When the elevator door on the third floor opened, it felt like entering a different world. The walls inside the restaurant are adorned with various decorations that give a strong impression of India and Nepal. The interior of the restaurant is spacious, with counter seats and table seats. The tables are large and the seats are comfortable. The tablecloths are a light green color, complementing the colors of the curry. The name "Shangri-La" originally comes from the Tibetan word for a mountain pass, but now it also represents a utopia. This Indian and Nepalese cuisine specialty restaurant stands out in Kamata with its unique design. The chef, who is originally from India, comes from a family of chefs and has been in the culinary industry for generations. After working at a five-star hotel and gaining experience overseas, he came to Japan. Lunch is served as a set, with a selection of 12 different curries. The set includes a daily special curry and a choice of curry, along with all-you-can-eat naan, small saffron rice, salad, and a drink, all at a reasonable price. The menu includes chicken, mutton, keema, seafood, and a variety of vegetables, including spinach curry. Today's curry is chickpea and potato. The vegetarian option includes spinach and mushrooms. The spiciness level can be chosen from 6 levels, with medium being the default. The drink ordered was iced chai. The salad was served immediately, followed by naan, yellow rice, two curries, and everything was served quickly. Today's curry had a medium spiciness level, with a good aroma of chickpeas and potatoes, and a satisfying texture. The spinach curry with mushrooms had a strong flavor of spinach, a rich vegetable taste, and a moderate spiciness level. The freshly baked naan was crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and slightly sweet. It was so satisfying that many customers ordered seconds. During lunchtime, the restaurant was almost full, with mostly female customers. The ladies' set comes with a dessert, making it even more worthwhile. With additional naan, I left the restaurant fully satisfied with the lunch experience in this hidden gem that offers a fun atmosphere of India and Nepal.
