I went to Kabuki Tower but it was crowded, so I wandered into a nearby alley and dined at a casual Japanese restaurant called Asousan. The grilled duck was disappointing, but the chicken liver and grilled chicken were delicious. I also had horse sashimi and tempura with summer vegetables, finishing off with rice balls. The staff were all experienced and I was able to enjoy my dinner comfortably.

Sometimes I have the opportunity to have a daytime drink, and it's not for entertaining purposes, so a normal, just normal izakaya is very convenient. The food is neither good nor bad, the drink selection is average, the middle-aged lady working there is nice, you can smoke, it's a casual spot in Kabukicho for daytime drinking. It's located on what's known as "Ebi Street". The cost performance is not that great. The restroom has a retro feel. There's no standout dish that they're known for. But it's a very handy spot.

Visited around 19:30☺︎ on a weekend, it was crowded at this time. However, we were able to get in without a reservation, so it might be relatively easy to get a table. We ordered recommended dishes such as shrimp, shabu-shabu, octopus balls, and fried fugu. The shabu-shabu was the most delicious. The fried fugu may be difficult to eat because it has many bones. The grilled eel was also good. It seems like a good place to casually enjoy a meal!

In the heart of Kabukicho, there is a popular casual Japanese restaurant where I enjoyed firefly squid. I've been hooked on it for 3 years now and every year I challenge myself to see how many firefly squids I can eat during this season. However, I had a sudden dilemma about where to go and ended up at a long-established izakaya ☺️ I remembered from a long time ago that they served delicious crab sashimi, but unfortunately, they no longer serve crab regardless of the season. Despite not being able to meet the crab, I focused on ordering shrimp as they had a great selection of seafood. The atmosphere is like a regular izakaya, but there were many regular customers who seemed like they've been coming for years, and the staff, especially the older lady, was very elegant which made me feel at ease. The location is quite convenient, and it seems like a good old-established restaurant in Kabukicho. I posted this for the memory of the firefly squid ☺️✨ Thank you for the delicious meal! #Foodies #Foodstagram #FoodieGirls #FoodLovers #FoodClub #TokyoFood #TokyoFoodMap #KabukichoFood #ShinjukuFood #ShinjukuIzakaya

I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years. I especially love their sukiyaki, but everything I eat there is delicious, whether it's seasonal dishes or not. Whenever I have errands in Shinjuku, I always make sure to stop by here. It's reasonably priced and has a cozy atmosphere. However, it is fully smoking allowed, so it might be tough for those who dislike tobacco.

Visited for the first time on a Sunday night. There were quite a few empty seats and we were able to be seated right away. We ordered sukiyaki and fugu sashimi, but the cost performance was poor. The quality of the meat was not good, and the freshness and quality of the fish were also not good, yet the prices were high. Additionally, the tables were small and cramped, which made us feel rushed to eat quickly. Will not visit again.

I went for a drink before the drinking party, but I wanted to drink more here. The welcoming feeling from the working ladies was the best ❤️ It was a place where I couldn't help but relax. The tuna and burdock sushi roll and rolled omelette were the best! I dropped in casually, but it was a hit ✨

Hidden gem near Shinjuku Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line, "Taishu Wasyoku Asou" is a wonderful restaurant that I have been a regular at for a long time! I was introduced to this lovely place by a business associate in the past, and I fell in love with it. Highly recommend the medium fatty tuna sashimi, paired with lots of sake, which is my personal favorite! Other delicious dishes include fresh oysters, mozuku seaweed vinegar, and ankimo. The staff, including the owner, are all wonderful people, and the interior of the restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. I always end up staying longer than planned because it's so inviting. If you're feeling tired from your busy days, be sure to check this place out. #TokyoGourmet #Tokyo #ShinjukuGourmet #Shinjuku #EstablishedRestaurant #Izakaya #TaishuWasyokuAsou #Taishu #Wasyoku #MediumFattyTuna #Tuna #FreshOysters #JapaneseFood #Japan

There used to be three popular traditional Japanese restaurants in the past, but now only the main branch, Asou, remains. The former head chef and managers like Mr. S have all passed away, but the horse liver sashimi is still excellent. The blowfish sashimi hasn't changed in 20 years. I should make a reservation and come back next time to try the grilled shrimp and ankimo hotpot.

The customer service is always polite and courteous. You can feel comfortable dining alone. The food menu offers a variety of dishes showcasing traditional cooking techniques. Everything is delicious. It's also nice to enjoy seasonal limited items. The drink selection is simple yet robust. The unexpected joy is encountering limited edition sake by the season. Although the restaurant is known for shrimp dishes, there is more than just shrimp. It may be considered the top restaurant in the deep and complex Kabukicho area.

I also found this restaurant by chance when I wanted to have a drink during the day. It's a valuable place that also serves regular menu items during lunchtime. The quality of Japanese food is high. I have already used it for day drinking about 3 times. The food is delicious. The drinks are delicious. It's a simple but calming space. But I've only been there for day drinking.笑

Yes, a late lunch. What to do now... At that moment, I noticed a izakaya (Japanese-style pub) that I always pass by is serving lunch. I was drawn in like a magnet. The restaurant specializes in fish, so it seems like everyone is ordering fish dishes. Some people are even having sashimi as a side dish with their drinks. I couldn't fill up with a fish dish, so I naturally went for the chicken teriyaki bowl. The interior of the restaurant has a retro Showa era atmosphere. I thought they recently renovated the facade, but the interior seems to be the same. Now the food has arrived. Wow, it's quite a generous portion. The plate is huge. Happy~! The chicken is tough. Overcooked maybe. It's a bit on the dry side. Well, for this portion size, 860 yen is acceptable I guess... Maybe fish dishes are the way to go after all... Thank you for the meal.

Kabukicho... I've heard it has become cleaner recently, but I have been going there less frequently. Even when I go after a long time, I end up at this old-fashioned restaurant, where the sashimi and classic dishes are delicious. Even just the horse sashimi, they carefully select the ingredients. It's a cozy bar in Shinjuku where you can relax!

Shinjuku East Exit is about a 6-minute walk away. First of all, the menu lineup is amazing. Absolutely incredible. If you're looking for Japanese cuisine in Shinjuku for an adult gathering, this is definitely a great choice. The cost performance may not be the best, but the food is delicious, and since there are no children allowed, it's okay! This is an adult-oriented restaurant.

I had been there a few times but had not written a review yet, so here's my chance! When I went in the winter, I ate a lot of oysters and sashimi, but what left a strong impression was the hot pot! We had sukiyaki, anglerfish hot pot, and blowfish hot pot for a large group at a year-end party, and we were able to eat a lot which was great! On this day, it didn't feel like winter yet, and there were fewer types of hot pots, but it was my first hot pot of the season! It was a mix of mozuku seaweed, vinegar, saury, blowfish tempura, and rice porridge. The saury was delicious, more than what I had at Fish Kin! The blowfish had a lot of bones and the portion was small so it might not be cost-effective, but it had a refreshing taste and was good! The liver was amazing!! The last hot pot had a classic flavor. Even a single portion was quite filling! I look forward to going back in the winter to this restaurant!

Shinjuku, Casual Japanese Restaurant Asou, Cozy Solo Drinking
Sometimes it's nice to just walk into a restaurant without researching and see what you find. That's how I ended up at this place. It had a nice atmosphere and the staff seemed experienced but relaxed. I started off with a drink and some appetizers. The grilled eggplant was carefully prepared, the sashimi was fresh, and the eel tempura was good despite the slightly dry lemon on the side. Overall, the place had a laid-back vibe that made it a pleasant spot to unwind.

A cozy izakaya with good prices and quality. The staff, especially the older ladies, are wonderful. Smoking is allowed, so it can get smoky if there are smokers nearby. Would I go back? If the opportunity arises, I would. About 4000 yen per person for 4 dishes and 4 shochu highballs.

The restaurant seemed to have been established in the early 1970s, with a long history as a kind of izakaya-style establishment. It's called "Asou," but it could also be "Aso" or "Asao." Whenever you go, you can usually find a seat on the second or third floor without it being too crowded. The clientele is diverse in age and gender, and tends to be quite lively and noisy. The dishes included marinated squid, taro root, salmon, sweet shrimp, grilled snow crab, scallops, and horse liver sashimi. The drinks included draft beer, warmed Sawanoi sake, premium Yoshinogawa sake, Masumi sake, lemon sour, and Kirin's White Water shochu on the rocks. Overall, the experience was enjoyable and the food was quite tasty.
