Opening time was aimed at, and arrived 5 minutes before the meeting time at 11:30, but there was no sign of anyone around, and the inside of the store was dark. Hmm?! Temporary closure?! Can they disappear like this? Then a staff member appeared to turn on the automatic door switch, and at almost the same time, a male customer entered the store after being called out from outside (even though it was already past the opening time, haha). Shortly after, two separate businessmen lined up outside before the opening time, making me worry if the store was closed for the day. Just then, my daughter arrived safely as the fourth in line to enter the store. Although there were only two of us, we were smartly guided to a table seat. This restaurant was selected from the list my daughter had compiled, and it is a sister store of the famous restaurant "Shinsekai Sakan" in the nearby area, specializing in cuisine from the Shanghai Ningbo region. I decided to try their famous dish: - Xianxiang Sake Shop's Specialty Chinese Porridge 1,100 yen I ordered the "Century Egg Porridge" from the six types of porridge available. - Mini salad - Condiments (3 types) ・ Fermented tofu, similar to Okinawan tofu, with a strong salty taste and sticky texture. The staff also explained, "This would go well with alcohol." ・ Chopped green onions - A mixture of Chinese soy sauce and sesame oil ・ Fried wonton skins-like pieces - Century Egg Porridge The menu stated that the broth was made from "old chicken," which refers to a chicken that is older than those used for eggs or meat. Although a bit tough to eat, it seems that it is used for making broth by simmering. The aroma of the chicken soup tickled my nose as soon as it was brought to the table! The porridge alone had a deep taste and aroma, making it the most delicious porridge I have ever had! The plump texture of the century egg on top, combined with the rich soup made from this chicken, created a smooth and gentle porridge that was truly amazing! Adding the condiments mentioned earlier to enjoy the change in taste and texture was also great. This deep and gentle dish was truly fitting for a day to pamper oneself! - Almond Jelly Soft and smooth, delicious After that, more and more customers arrived, and the staff member in charge of the hall introduced the Shinsekai Sakan while politely informing the customers that the restaurant was full, serving dishes and appearing busy. However, their attentive attitude towards the customers was wonderful. Even when I asked about the condiments at the time of payment, they explained with a smile and the taste and service were both very satisfying! I want to come back again. Another great restaurant in Jinbocho has been added.

Congee often has the image of being food for sick people. It's gentle but kind of unreliable, like a willow tree. But the congee here is different. It's a hearty Chinese congee with a strong chicken broth flavor. Don't worry about the portion size, they provide three different condiments for flavor variation. It's a satisfying meal all the way to the end. The only downside is that they only serve lunch for now. It would be great if they were open for dinner so you could relax your tired body with Chinese congee after work. Also, the Chinese restaurant nearby (main branch) is open at night too!

I headed to a Chinese restaurant in Jinbocho during my telework lunch break, but unfortunately, they were fully booked. This visit was a nostalgic one, as I had previously been turned away during a late afternoon visit. This time, however, I managed to get a table in time. On this hot afternoon, I was drawn to the cold noodle menu and ordered the Black Sesame Tan Tan Men Cold Noodles at a spice level of 1.5. My partner ordered the Chicken Salt Soba. First, the Chicken Salt Soba arrived. The clear soup with four pieces of chicken chashu looked delicious, with chicken oil floating on top. I took a small taste, and it was light yet full of the delicious flavor of chicken, perfectly coating the thin noodles. It was really tasty. Next came the cold Tan Tan Men. It looked spicy from the outset. I opted for a spice level of 1.5, but I probably didn't need to as it was quite hot (laughs). The long, black sesame noodles were unique and a bit challenging to separate, not because they were overcooked but because that's just how they are. Despite this, they had a good firmness. The toppings included tomatoes, chicken breast, leeks, and even walnuts. There was actually a lot more noodles than it appeared. The dessert was almond jelly, but the numbing sensation of the Sichuan pepper kept increasing, making it difficult to enjoy the almond jelly fully (laughs). It was a pretty punchy dish. My partner was disappointed to learn that the reason for coming here was for the congee. Perhaps we should have ordered one of the dishes with congee instead. The Chinese curry is from the main branch, "Shinsekai Saikan," and I would definitely like to try it as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very pleasant, but there were other customers present, so I couldn't take many photos inside (tears). I look forward to visiting again at a more leisurely pace. Thank you for the meal~

On a regular weekday lunch, my friend and I went to Jimbocho for telework lunch. The restaurant we planned to go to was closed, so we ended up here. My friend had cold tantanmen, which was quite spicy. The noodles were somewhat cold and clumped together, giving it a chilled noodle-like appearance. I had chicken salt ramen, which had a delicate yet flavorful taste with a hint of broth other than chicken. It was elegant but had a rich flavor and was delicious. Looking back at my notes later, I had written that I wanted to eat porridge. Come to think of it, they did have porridge on the menu. Oh well, as long as it was delicious, it's all good (laughs).

I went to "Kankyo Saketen" for the first time in a while and was disappointed to see that the menu had been drastically reduced. They no longer offer the Half & Half option where you can choose two items and get a half-size portion of each. Additionally, my favorite menu item has been removed from the lunch menu. Despite this, I decided to order the tantanmen. The noodles here are unique, thin and soft, similar to turning slightly thicker somen noodles into tantanmen. The soup is rich in sesame flavor with just the right amount of spiciness from the chili oil, creating a delicious and gentle soup. My initial impression was that it was too mild and the noodles were too soft, but after a few bites, I started to appreciate its unique style of tantanmen that sets it apart from others. It's a different kind of tantanmen that you might crave occasionally. The restaurant's soba dishes typically consist of soup and thick noodles with a similar taste profile. The appeal of being able to enjoy two flavors in one dish was the main draw for me, so it's really disappointing that it's no longer available. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the unique tantanmen and will definitely be back for it.

This is a branch of the nearby Shinsekai Saikan, a very atmospheric restaurant that feels like an authentic Chinese old-fashioned place. I ordered the porridge set for 1,100 yen, choosing the oyster porridge. It was delicious, with oysters in a chicken soup base. It's recommended for when your stomach is feeling tired.

COVID-19 measures in place include hand sanitizer and shields. - Serving - Ordered the Chicken Salt Ramen, served with mizuna, bamboo shoots, green onions, and a few pieces of chicken breast floating on top, with almond jelly on the side. - Taste - The hot soup had a gentle saltiness and the flavor of the chicken permeated throughout, making it delicious and comforting. I had been interested in this restaurant for a while and finally visited. They only offer porridge, curry, and mapo tofu for lunch now, probably due to the influence of the coronavirus. I ordered the mapo tofu and it was served. It was a Japanese-style mapo tofu with mild spiciness, and it became even milder with the addition of a hot spring egg. It's a mapo tofu that even elderly people can enjoy. I might try again when they have their regular menu available.

Every time I passed by this place, I was very curious because it has a historic atmosphere. After researching, I found out that it is a restaurant where you can enjoy local dishes from the Ningbo region of China and imported Shaoxing wine. I decided to visit for lunch. The restaurant's specialty is porridge, so I chose the Ma La minced meat and pickled mustard green porridge for 1,100 yen. The interior of the restaurant is very quiet and calming. Soon, my tray arrived with side dishes, porridge, condiments, and dessert. When I took a bite of the porridge, the aroma of the broth and the smooth texture of the porridge warmed my body and soul. The harmony of spicy meat miso and the aroma of Mitsuba was wonderful. Such gentle dishes are truly comforting. The condiments included crispy fried strips similar to spring roll skins and green onions with dried shrimp (?) in Chinese soy sauce. The combination of textures and aromas was delightful. The side dish was a refreshing boiled komatsuna, which paired perfectly with the porridge. This restaurant is a sister store of Shinsekai Saikan, and the mapo tofu is said to be from there. They may also have Shanghai crab depending on the season. The restaurant has a sophisticated interior and a great atmosphere. I would love to visit for dinner as well.

Today, I felt like having Chinese food, so I used Tabelog to search for a restaurant. I found a place called "Kaneko Saketen" that offers a lunch special where you can choose 2 items for a half & half meal, which seemed like a good deal. You can also order both noodles and rice at the same time, which was appealing. When I arrived at the restaurant around 11:35 am, there were about 3 other customers already there. Even though the state of emergency has been lifted, measures to prevent the spread of the virus are still in place, so the menu only had mapo tofu, porridge, and curry rice. I felt a bit hesitant to leave after entering the restaurant, so I decided to stay and ordered the curry rice. I've had mapo tofu at their sister restaurant before, and I wasn't in the mood for porridge, so I decided to try the curry rice. The curry was not spicy at all, but it was delicious. It didn't have a Chinese food taste, more like a comforting taste similar to homemade curry. It was tasty, but I felt like it wasn't necessary to eat out for this, so if I come back, I will order Chinese food instead. Thank you for the meal.

Oh! It looks like you can also eat porridge here! I'm starting to find Chinese porridge restaurants nearby and I'm happy about it (*´▽`*) It seems like it's about the same distance from either the A2 or A3 exit at Jimbocho. It's a shop related to the popular Shinsekai Saikan. It's right in the neighborhood, isn't it? (*´▽`*) When I visited the newly opened shop, the staff confirmed, "We only offer these menus, is that okay?" They only offer Mapo Tofu, curry, and porridge. It's like a limited menu, or rather, they have limited the menu. I understand completely in this day and age (´・ω・`) I was thinking of trying the popular Half & Half with porridge, but it can't be helped. I originally came for the porridge, so I'll definitely have it (*´▽`*) The porridge, with seafood, vegetables, pickled mustard greens, minced meat with Ma La sauce, and preserved egg, is available in five varieties. Without hesitation, I chose the preserved egg, as I am a preserved egg lover (´∀`*)ウフフ There were no other customers at first, but as lunchtime approached, customers started coming in one after another. Even when informed about the limited menu, everyone responded with "Sure, that's fine" or "Yes, please", and sat down comfortably. It seems that the locals see this place as a safe place to eat, even with a limited menu. The porridge must have been simmering already, as it was served quickly (*´▽`*) Oh! There are plenty of preserved eggs in the porridge♪ A mini salad, almond jelly, and condiments are also served on the tray. First, I took a bite of the porridge as it is! Yes! It has a very gentle and smooth flavor, but the broth is rich and delicious (*´▽`*) The preserved egg also has a strong presence and provides a satisfying texture! I can feel the deliciousness and kindness of the porridge slowly spreading throughout my body from the inside of my stomach. I added the condiments, green onions, and "fermented tofu"??? What is fermented tofu? Is it like Okinawan tofu? Anyway, since I didn't know, I mixed it in and made sure it was evenly distributed. Then I took a bite! Σ(゚Д゚)Σ(゚Д゚)Σ(゚Д゚)Σ(゚Д゚)Σ(゚Д゚) The fermented tofu is delicious too! (*´▽`*)!!!!!! The umami and saltiness of the fermented tofu blend perfectly with the porridge, making it incredibly delicious! When you eat the original part and the fermented tofu part together, you can experience a gradient of flavors in your mouth, and again, it's incredibly delicious! (*´▽`*)♡ I finished eating with a bit of sweat on my forehead, and paid 1,100 yen feeling full and satisfied (*´▽`*) I also passed by Shinsekai Saikan, which was as popular as ever! I would like to visit there as well... but I would like to try the Half & Half lunch once it starts. Thank you for the meal today! ===========

In April 2021, after eating a bit too much for a while, both my husband and I were feeling a bit off in our stomachs. We decided to be cautious and went to this place. We ordered seafood congee and century egg congee. After taking a bite of the congee, oh my goodness! Our stomachs and bodies were delighted! Our appetites kept increasing. The century egg congee was delicious, but the seafood congee was even better. Adding condiments, especially something like miso, transformed the taste of the congee and we couldn't stop eating. It was a taste that did not disappoint the expectation of being delicious.

Jimbocho, I went to my usual Chinese restaurant for lunch. I ordered the usual Triple Half Set Dan Dan noodles with sesame paste and plenty of numbing Sichuan pepper. I usually only eat Dan Dan noodles at famous Japanese specialty shops, but this Chinese restaurant is the only one I like! The noodles are rich and spicy, yet light and full of flavor. The beef rice bowl has a subtle star anise aroma, giving it a Taiwanese-style flavor. It's completely different from the usual mixed meat sauce, and I'm addicted to it. Wait a minute! The beef pieces are the size of a cat's paw and there's hardly any meat in it... It's disappointing, but I ended up finishing it easily. The Five Ingredient Yakisoba has a generous amount of ingredients. All three dishes cost 1400 yen (excluding tax). If there was more beef, this place would easily win. Well, it's delicious so I'll definitely come back again.

I visited this restaurant for lunch on a regular day. The shop is located about 3 minutes from the Jimbocho intersection, just a little further from Shinsekai Restaurant. I arrived a little after 1 pm and was seated right away without having to wait. They have a unique lunch system where you can choose between 1. selecting 2 dishes out of the 4 daily specials for a set meal, or 2. choosing two items from a selection of over 10 noodle and rice dishes. The latter option allows for a lot of fun combinations, such as choosing two types of noodles like tantanmen and negi soba, or pairing yakisoba with fried rice. It's a lot of fun trying to decide! After much contemplation, I decided on the crab and pickled vegetable fried rice and the chicken negi soba. The meal also came with pickles, a small tofu dish, and almond jelly for a total of 1100 yen including tax. The food arrived very quickly, in just 10 minutes. The chicken negi soba had a clear and flavorful broth with tender chicken, it was so delicious that I would order it as a standalone dish. As for the fried rice, although I couldn't spot much crab, the dish had plenty of pickled vegetables and was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of moisture and texture. It was also very tasty. The almond jelly dessert was also delicious without a doubt, making it a very satisfying lunch overall. The cost performance was great, and I would definitely want to come back to this restaurant. Thank you for the wonderful meal today!

Located along Yasukuni Street, the sister restaurant of "Shinsekai Saikan." Just a short walk towards Kudanshita. In a narrow alley, you will find "Kankyo Shoten." The atmosphere is stylish and modern with Chinese-inspired artwork and interior decor. Sit at the counter facing the wall, where there is plenty of space between seats, allowing for a relaxed dining experience even for solo diners. Many women dine alone here, while groups are seated on the second floor. The menu offers around 30 dishes, including Oyster Noodles, Minced Meat Spicy Vegetable Noodles, and Five-Ingredient Yakisoba. The "Half & Half" set allows you to choose two dishes from those marked with a yellow sticker. However, I opted for the weekly set meal, which included a lightly salted stir-fried vegetable dish and fried chicken with sweet chili sauce. The set also came with a light soup, rice, pickled radish, and almond jelly for dessert. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, though it seemed to have been sitting for a while. Overall, a delicious meal in a cozy setting.

The atmosphere here is like being in China, which has always caught my attention. For lunch, you can choose two dishes from the menu. After much deliberation, I ordered the simmered beef bowl and the five-ingredient yakisoba. Both dishes were slightly mini-sized but quite generous in portion, making it a great deal! And they were delicious!!! Choosing this place was definitely the right decision! Thank you for the meal!

The other day, I visited this shop that caught my eye as I passed by. The interior of the shop had a luxurious feel with intricate decorations on the ceiling and walls, which were wonderful. The highlight was a set of three large ceramic paintings, each about 1 meter in size, which were amazing. I ordered the "Half & Half Chicken Scented Stewed Cold Soba and Mixed Vegetable Ankake Rice". The Mixed Vegetable Ankake Rice was especially delicious. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal, and thank you very much.

Clay pot fried rice (1200 yen) and Shanghai yakisoba (1000 yen). The clay pot fried rice was a bit hard but tasty with braised pork. The clay pot didn't seem to have any special effect. The Shanghai yakisoba had a lot of cabbage! It made my jaw quite tired haha. The ingredients were mostly just cabbage. The prices seemed a bit high with tax not included. The service was good though (*^^*).

Kanda Jimbocho is known as the "book town," but it is also home to many Chinese restaurants. Established eateries like "Shinsekai Kaikan," "Yangzi River Kaikan," "Sanko En," and "Kanyoro" add a unique charm to the area, different from the more common Chinese eateries near Kanda Station. This is due in part to the history of hosting Chinese exchange students in the area, leading to a concentration of Chinese students and a vibrant Chinese food scene. The restaurant I visited, Xianheng, is affiliated with Shinsekai Co., Ltd. and was established in 1992 as a sister restaurant to the renowned Shanghai restaurant, Shinsekai Kaikan. The name "Xianheng" originates from an ancient Chinese text and carries the wish for prosperity and success. The restaurant specializes in traditional Ningbo cuisine and Shaoxing wine imported directly from China. Located along Jingguo Street near Jimbocho Station, Xianheng offers a variety of lunch sets featuring noodles, rice dishes, and side dishes. The cozy interior, with yellow and blue tablecloths, and friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere for diners. I opted for the Half & Half set, which allowed me to choose two dishes from a selection of noodles and rice dishes. Overall, Xianheng offers a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine in the heart of Kanda Jimbocho.

The other day, I had cold noodles at Yangtze River Restaurant, so I decided to have Chinese food again on this day and visited this place. I went for the lunch special "Half & Half" (1,000 yen + tax). I chose the combination of cold tantan noodles and Shanghai fried rice from the seasonal recommendations. The food was served in about 6 minutes after ordering. First, I tried the cold tantan noodles, mixing the soup with the noodles and taking a bite. It wasn't very spicy, with a mild flavor of sesame. The noodles weren't very cold either. There was quite a lot of meat miso, giving it a satisfying texture. After a few bites, I started on the fried rice. It had a dark color and a strong flavor, as expected from its appearance. It might be a bit difficult to finish this dish alone, but with the mild flavor of the tantan noodles, it was okay. I took breaks with glass noodles and pickled radish while eating. The portion was decent, and I felt quite full. I finished with almond tofu for dessert, paid in cash, and left. I didn't choose it this time, but I'm a bit curious about the popular No. 1 dish, Mapo Tofu Glass Noodles. Maybe next time, I'll try the Half & Half with a rice dish other than fried rice.
