【First visit on June 10, 2023】A shop that appears across the entrance of a road slightly to the right just after heading towards Midorigaoka Station from the south exit of Todai-Daigaku Station. On this Saturday, I wanted to have lunch at a ramen shop located between Midorigaoka Station and Todai-Daigaku Station. As I wanted to head to Shibuya afterwards, I came across this shop on the way to Todai-Daigaku Station. I had never heard of this shop before, but despite it being just past 1 p.m., the refrigerated case was almost empty... After checking on Tabelog and finding out that it was a highly rated store, I decided to buy a little for dinner. When I tried to enter the shop, there were already two customers inside the narrow shop. By the time I left, there were customers waiting outside, unable to enter the shop, so it seemed to be a very popular place! The remaining products seemed to mainly consist of baguettes. I decided to purchase the "Large Campagne" which was recommended and displayed. As the name suggests, the bread is sliced and sold in large sizes, with the size varying depending on the location, and sold by weight. I purchased two slices of the largest size in the middle. It was reasonably priced at 480 yen! I ate one of the slices at home that day. Originally, I had a strong image of Campagne bread being round, but this was a sliced version of the more commonly imagined baguette shape. The difference in image also reflects in the texture. It had a rich flavor from mixing rye flour and whole wheat flour. It had a high aroma, starting with acidity and leading to the sweetness of the dough. It was not overbaked, giving the surface a moderate chewy texture while smoothly transitioning to the fluffy and chewy texture inside! The dough had a sweetness to it, but the addition of butter enhanced the sweetness and saltiness. The next morning, I toasted it. The surface had a slight browning. This revealed that the dough contained a lot of moisture, possibly due to the season. It was even more fragrant and had a crispy texture all over! However, if you don't eat it quickly, it might absorb moisture from the air again. So, it's recommended to spread butter on it before that happens! Despite the crispy texture on the surface, the central part was cut to a thickness where a moist and chewy texture remained, allowing you to enjoy it to the last bite. Not only the taste, but also the fragrance and texture were excellent and enjoyable for a simple bread. I can understand why it's popular, and I would like to visit again early in the day to try their sandwiches! Thank you for the meal.
