I visited the restaurant during lunch time before a business meeting, and I arrived at 1:30 PM. I waited for about 10 minutes before being seated by one staff member at the counter. I ordered the "Jou Takao Teishoku" for 1800 yen. The meal started with pickles and mentaiko, which were refillable. The mentaiko was the only domestically produced one from Kushiro. The ingredients were fresh, and the tempura batter was light, resulting in juicy and rare tempura with some moisture left inside. With 9 dishes for 1800 yen, this performance is unbelievable. Absolutely no complaints.

I remembered something I did in Yokohama and had lunch after 2 PM, so I quickly went to a popular restaurant and ordered the Takao teishoku set meal (shrimp, squid, eggplant, burdock, pumpkin, pork, sardine) plus smelt. Everything was fluffy and, most importantly, they served the freshly fried items in order, so you can enjoy them at a reasonable price. The pork was thinly sliced and not greasy, giving a refreshing taste. Originating from Hakata, they also offer complimentary kombu mentaiko and pickled vegetables, with free refills. This is the biggest feature, even more so than the tempura.

I waited in line for about 15 minutes along with around 10 other people to enter the restaurant. It's always very popular. Today's special was meat tempura for 1300 yen. They brought out freshly fried tempura one after another. They would bring multiple tempura pieces in a bowl and place them in front of you. You can't see them frying the tempura, but it's delicious. However, I felt today's tempura was heavier than usual. Maybe it's because it's summer. The tempura made with seasonal pumpkin was fluffy and delicious! I ended up feeling really full and uncomfortable. I think I'll go back after summer is over.

The Takaao Tempura Set includes 7 items: fish - deep flavor with no strong taste, pork - a new experience with concentrated umami, shrimp - plump and well-cooked, eggplant - a favorite, burdock, pumpkin, squid - essential classics. Both salt and wasabi salt are smooth with no sharp edges. The grated radish dipping sauce is refreshing, and the frying oil is not overpowering, making it easy to eat. The rice and miso soup with mushrooms are also well-prepared. The pickles and mentaiko are all-you-can-eat, but the tempura is the star. It's a bit of a snack-like meal. Lunchtime is always crowded, but we visited after 2 pm and there was no wait. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Tokyo Port City is a facility that opened during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, and I had been wanting to visit since it first opened, but never had the chance. Even when I was in Fukuoka on a business trip, I couldn't find the time to visit. I finally made it there for the first time. In a word, it was delicious! I ended up eating too much! Oh, that wasn't just one word. The best deal is to order a set meal, which is convenient. But since I drink, I don't eat rice, so I decided to order individual tempura items. I got squid, sardine, lotus root, burdock, and chicken tenderloin wrapped in shiso, along with a Maruei and black beer set! The fact that they offer beer sets is fantastic! The tempura was crispy, fluffy, and juicy, and delicious, but the standout was the mentaiko (all-you-can-eat). I tried to avoid carbs by ordering tempura as a snack, but ended up adding a small bowl of rice, and eating the tempura with it was delicious, but eating it with white rice really brought out the deliciousness of the mentaiko tempura, mentaiko, and pickled vegetables. I ended up eating too much because of how delicious it was. They also had a decent selection of one-cup sakes to enjoy. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

The tempura pieces were small to medium in size and easy to eat. Among the vegetables, the eggplant was the best. The unlimited refills of pickles and kombu mentaiko were great. The pickles, especially the finely chopped lotus root, were a nice touch.

I visited this restaurant wanting to eat something cheap and delicious during my stay at a nearby hotel. I had tempura with pork, horse mackerel, squid, shrimp, burdock, eggplant, and sweet potato. The tempura was freshly fried and delicious, with a home-cooked taste. In addition to rice and miso soup, I also had pickles and spicy cod roe, and the best part is that you can have seconds for free. It's great that you can enjoy all this for around 1,000 yen per person.

I realized at the end that I forgot to take a photo, so it ended up being just the tempura set. I ordered the Takao Tempura Set and the Meat Tempura Set. Each set cost 1,300 yen including tax. It was fun to have the freshly fried tempura placed on a net in front of us. The menu changes with the seasons, which is enjoyable. Today, the mackerel tempura and burdock tempura were delicious. The set also came with rice, miso soup, and refillable kombu mentaiko and pickles. I really liked the kombu mentaiko. The staff were very friendly.

I enjoyed the Hakata-style tempura. It was reasonably priced and served at a good pace. I took a break with mentaiko kombu and pickles. The yuzu pepper sauce was perfect for changing up the flavors. I was happy to see seasonal ingredients like Ginpou and Sawara. I think tempura is the best way to enjoy seasonal ingredients.

The tempura is elegant and brings out the flavor of the ingredients. The tempura dipping sauce is also delicious, but the tempura itself is so good that I prefer to eat it with salt. The mentaiko (spicy cod roe) is also so tasty that I want to buy some to take home. The quality is close to that of a high-end restaurant's tempura. It's a great deal for this price.

During lunchtime, this shop is always crowded. Today, I arrived after 2 PM and it was still almost full. I ordered the Takao Ten set meal for 1300 yen. As soon as I sat down, I was served with a small dish of pickled vegetables and spicy cod roe with kelp. You can ask for refills on these. During lunchtime, you also get a free large serving of rice. The tempura included shrimp, squid, sardine, pork, eggplant, burdock, and sweet potato, all freshly fried and served in multiple rounds. I enjoyed changing up the flavors with tempura dipping sauce, wasabi salt, and yuzu pepper. I indulged in two servings of pickled vegetables to make up for my lack of veggies. It's nice to be able to enjoy freshly fried tempura in a casual setting. The cost performance is decent too. I will definitely come back!

Around 6:00 PM, I finished my errands in the building and started feeling hungry. I was unsure of what to eat when I noticed a restaurant outside with a long line. It was a tempura restaurant from Fukuoka, serving freshly fried tempura at the counter. I realized I hadn't had tempura in a while, so I decided to wait and enter the restaurant. The menu had a variety of options, mainly focusing on set meals and rice bowls for lunch and dinner. They offered free extra rice during lunchtime and a +50 yen charge for it during dinner, making me feel like I got a good deal. I ordered the "Jotaka" for 1880 yen, intrigued by the dish the person next to me had ordered. As soon as I placed my order, they brought pickles and seasoned cod roe, and mentioned that refills were available for these. While I enjoyed these appetizers, they also brought rice and miso soup, followed by the tempura being served in small portions of 2-3 pieces at a time right in front of me. I could season them with my choice of dipping sauce like tempura dipping sauce, salt, or Tabasco. Personally, I preferred salt, but surprisingly, Tabasco added a rich flavor to the tempura. Despite feeling like the portion was a bit too much, I managed to finish it all as the tempura was light and crispy, with the pork being exceptionally delicious. The red bean paste tempura at the end was also outstanding, although a bit pricey, I understood why it was popular. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed and felt like I could eat here for a lifetime. I was seated at the counter and ordered the "Iwashi Tempura Bowl" (1300 yen). It seems that for set meals, they serve freshly fried items one by one. The tempura includes the main dish of 2 pieces of sardines, chicken tenderloin, simmered egg, eggplant, onion, bell pepper, and sweet potato. The tempura made with sardines from Choshi is flavorful with the fat and the flesh is fluffy and delicious! The batter is crispy and light, not too heavy, and the sauce is not too strong, which is good. The simmered egg tempura has a perfect half-cooked texture with the yolk melting, and when mixed with the bowl, it becomes like egg over rice, which is delicious. The other vegetable tempura also has a satisfying taste. In addition, set meals and rice bowls come with pickled vegetables and seasoned cod roe. This seasoned cod roe goes really well with rice. Even at this time, there were only 5 seats left at the counter, and it was full 5 minutes later. I ordered the "Takao Ten Teishoku" for 1200 yen. Rice is free and you can order extra, but for some reason today I asked for a regular portion. After sitting at the counter, mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and pickles were served in small dishes. The pickles were cabbage, lotus root, and pumpkin, light and delicious. The mentaiko had kelp in it. Then came miso soup and rice. Just the mentaiko, rice, pickles, and miso soup were delicious. Before the tempura arrived, I was worried I might run out of rice, so I saved some. I regret not ordering the extra portion. The tempura is served in three rounds, freshly fried right in front of you on the counter. The tempura dipping sauce comes with grated radish. On the counter, there are salt, green tea salt, and yuzu pepper. About 9 minutes after ordering, the first round of pork tempura and horse mackerel tempura arrived. The hot tempura was crispy, and I enjoyed it first with green tea salt and then with the flavorful dipping sauce. The pork tempura was juicy and tender, very delicious. The horse mackerel tempura had no fishy smell and was tasty. Next came burdock root and pumpkin tempura. I quickly dipped the crispy tempura in the dipping sauce and enjoyed it. Lastly, there were shrimp tempura, squid tempura, and eggplant tempura. I started with green tea salt on the shrimp, which enhanced its sweetness. The squid tempura was soft and easy to eat. The freshly fried crispy tempura was delicious. There was also a refillable mentaiko, which made the rice go down smoothly. I should have ordered the extra rice. I missed lunch so I entered the restaurant as soon as it opened. Luckily, there was no line at this time. After some hesitation, I ordered the meat tempura set meal! I also added squid with a coupon and had seconds of pickled vegetables. I wanted to eat more rice with mentaiko, but I have to be careful not to overeat, so I only had one bowl today. The meat was tender and satisfying. It's great that the prices are reasonable even in the evening.

In early January 2023, I visited a tempura restaurant for a holiday lunch. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of a newly opened high-rise building in Tokyo Port City. It has a clean and modern interior with 14 counter seats and 6 table seats. The place seemed to have high rent. Around 1 pm, the restaurant was packed with customers, so I had to wait a bit outside on a round stool before entering. Once seated at a table, I ordered the Takao Tempura Set and a bottle of beer. The beer arrived promptly, followed by rice and miso soup. On the table, there were small dishes of konbu mentaiko and pickles for unlimited refills, which served as great beer snacks. The tempura was served on a raised wire mesh platform in multiple batches. The first batch included pork and horse mackerel. They were delicious both with salt and dipping sauce. The tempura was hot and crispy, and the pork was tender while the mackerel had a rich flavor. The second batch included lotus root and pumpkin, which showcased the natural flavors of the ingredients. The third batch had squid, shrimp, and eggplant. The squid was incredibly tender, and the shrimp, although slender, had a great taste. After finishing the konbu mentaiko and pickles, I ordered a refill and finished the remaining rice. The tempura was delicious, and the cost performance was excellent. I had Hakata-style tempura. I chose a set meal and also ordered some individual items. The seasonal seafood at this time was globefish and oysters. When oysters are included in the ingredients, it feels more wintery. I like tempura with tempura dipping sauce, but there are also unique options like yuzu pepper, so you can enjoy different flavors.
