Located in Fukasaka-ji Higashimachi, Chofu City, Tokyo. This izakaya specializes in delicious chanko-nabe and fugu dishes in a residential area. The nearest stations are Tsutsujigaoka Station, Shibasaki Station, Chofu Station on the Keio Line, Mitaka Station on the Chuo Line and Sobu Line, and Musashisakai Station on the Chuo Line and Seibu Tamagawa Line. Since it is quite a distance from any station, it is convenient to use the bus that runs near the shop. It is also a 10-15 minute walk from the historic temple "Fukasaka-ji" and the Tokyo Metropolitan "Jindai Botanical Garden," making it a nice stop after a stroll.
I visited for a small year-end party on a weekday at 7:30 PM. It is located in a residential area, marked by a red lantern and a "Kintaro" lantern. The owner is former sumo wrestler Genyu-san from the Futagoyama stable. He and his wife run the shop together. The interior is decorated with photos, handprints, and sumo rankings of famous sumo wrestlers such as Kitanoumi and Akebono. The owner is a big fan of fishing, with fishing gear and fish specimens hanging in the shop. The seating consists of about 10 tatami mat seats and 10 counter seats in a traditional Japanese style. There was one customer before me and one after me, regulars, it seems.
I ordered chanko-nabe (kimchi flavor) for 2600 yen, a zosui set (rice, egg, green onion, seaweed) for 440 yen, assorted tempura for 1100 yen, grilled beef tongue for 860 yen, yam butter for 500 yen, and namul as an appetizer. I also had a medium-sized draft beer for 640 yen, hot sake (Matsuchikume, 2-go tokkuri) for 880 yen, and a "Modern Oyaji" barley shochu for 440 yen. The chanko-nabe, with shrimp, salmon, meatballs, pork belly, chicken, tofu, vegetables, noodles, and more, was a highlight. You can choose from soy sauce, miso, or kimchi flavors. It was a cold night, so I enjoyed the chanko-nabe with hot sake, feeling happy. All the other dishes were also delicious, and the drinks were flowing. I finished with adding noodles to the pot for ramen and ordered zosui to finish everything.
I had the kimchi flavor chanko-nabe this time, so I would like to try miso flavor next time. I'm also curious about fugu dishes like tessa and tecchiri. #Sekiwake #Chanko-nabe #Fugu dishes #Futagoyama stable style #Hidden gem #Yakitori #Izakaya #Residential area #Family-run #Owner loves fishing #Fishing results are also on the menu #There is a coin parking lot, but don't drink and drive #High possibility of revisiting.
