My eldest son had just finished his midterm exams for high school entrance exams, so as a reward, we decided to revisit this restaurant. My wife and our second son went on a trip to Hokkaido during the long weekend. Our eldest son loves the ramen soup and noodles from Daishoken that you can buy at the supermarket. It's been 7 years since we last had the soup with the packaging designed by the late Mr. Yamagishi. I heard they have a partnership with Times, so we decided to drive there. The parking space was very limited with only space for two cars, making it difficult to park without hitting pedestrians or walls. The restaurant is located right by a busy main road where cars speed by. After several attempts to maneuver the narrow parking space and sidewalk, we managed to park facing forward. We then braved the rain to climb up and down the pedestrian bridge. It's funny how pedestrian bridges are still around in this barrier-free era, almost like a relic that underestimates pedestrians. When we arrived, there were two men in the kitchen and a server and a cook. My son ordered the large portion for 850 yen plus an extra 100 yen, while I ordered the regular portion for 850 yen. The background music in the restaurant played 80s songs from bands like The Checkers and singers like Miki Asakura. The clientele seemed to be mostly middle-aged single men and some older women with somber expressions. The noodles were different from what I had imagined - lacking in floury texture and umami flavor. The soup, on the other hand, had a rich taste unlike the retort pack versions. The chewy slices of pork and unique toppings like bamboo shoots and seaweed were what set this place apart. My son was delighted and said it was "very delicious, so happy, no need for extra seasonings, it's that good." When we finished eating, I asked if we could have hot water for refills, and they said they could do it but not immediately. It's better to request it when you order. I remember there used to be a pot for refills, but I guess they don't have that anymore. We were able to exit the parking lot for free using the 220 yen Times card, but I noticed a pile of discarded cards under the payment machine. It seems they can't be reused, so remember to take yours home.

The other day, I had tsukemen at this restaurant. Today, I had the salt ramen for 800 yen. The noodles were thicker than I expected, but they were just right when I tried them. However, if you slurp too much at once, your mouth will be full of noodles, so it's best to eat them slowly. The soup was not too sweet and had a refreshing taste. I personally really liked the flavor of the soup. If you like chashu, you might find that there's not enough in the bowl, so I recommend adding extra. The staff were very friendly and I had a good impression of them!

Today, I visited Katsushika Rinkai Park for the first time in a while and on the way back, I visited "Menya Taishoken" in Katsushika. The tsukemen is popular, and the two customers who came in after me ordered the tsukemen! I had the soy sauce ramen, which had a generous amount of noodles and a soup with a strong flavor of dried bonito, giving it a nostalgic taste reminiscent of Showa era ramen. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On August 11, 2023 (Friday: Holiday: Sunny: Too hot), I revisited Menya Daikokuya Kasai branch today. The purpose was to eat the tsukemen and char siu that I had last time. The tsukemen was delicious as before. However, I was disappointed with the char siu. Last time, as I ate, the thickness increased from 1 slice to 2 slices to 3 slices, but today, all were about 1-2mm thick! I was curious which one is the authentic Daikokuya topping char siu. However, overall, I was not satisfied with the taste and price, so I decided to skip it. I plan to try it again in autumn to confirm which one is the true Daikokuya char siu. Thank you for the meal!

On August 5, 2023 (Saturday: sunny ~ hot ~), I visited Ramenya Daikokuken Kasai store after a long time. The purpose was to eat Daikokuken's tsukemen. I decided to go after seeing the surprisingly high ratings for the tsukemen on Daikokuken's Tabelog page. It was about 5.3 km away, so I rode my bike as usual. I tried to stay in the shade while riding, but most of the way was under the sun. When I arrived at the store, I ordered the tsukemen for 850 yen, extra char siu for 350 yen, and a flavored egg for 50 yen. After a while, the tsukemen arrived. I was happy with the volume and the fact that there were 5 slices of char siu. However, when I tried one slice, which was about 8x8 cm in size and 1-2 mm thick, I felt a little disappointed. I dipped it in the broth and tasted it. The broth had a good balance of soy sauce, bonito, and vinegar, without any strange sweetness, and it was delicious! There were a few thickly sliced char siu pieces in the broth, which added a nice texture. The noodles were medium-thin and I liked them. They tasted even better when dipped in the broth. I wished the noodles were a bit colder, though. As I ate, the char siu slices got thicker, which was a pleasant surprise. Personally, I thought this tsukemen was delicious. After finishing the meal, I prayed not to get heatstroke under the scorching sun, safely made it home, took a quick shower, and now I'm writing this comment in the air-conditioned room. Thank you for the meal!

The name and characters are the same as that super famous shop. But it's a completely different place. I didn't have high expectations based on that information, but it was actually pretty good. It was a hot evening, so I had the tsukemen with extra char siu. It had a seafood aroma, with what seemed like back fat on the surface. There was also a rich animal-based flavor, and I was satisfied. The char siu had plenty of pork belly rolls, not too tender or tough, just right. Hmm, this place might be worth a visit after all. I'd like to try the dried fish ramen and Shinshu miso ramen next time.

You can usually get a seat without waiting around 6 pm on weekdays. This was my first time visiting Daikokuya, and I ordered the Char Siu Ramen. It was a soy sauce-based ramen that was mild and easy to eat, with a normal portion size that was satisfying. The only downside was that there were a few flies flying around, which was disappointing in terms of hygiene. I'm not sure if this was just a one-time thing or not...

The nostalgic taste of Osho is also available here in Kasai. The nostalgia I experienced from the master in Higashi-Ikebukuro is carried over to the soup here. By the way, today I had the seasoned egg with seaweed. The recent rise in egg prices is affecting even places like this. Considering the topping price, I guess this size is understandable.

Today, I had soy sauce ramen at "Menya Taishoken" in Kasai. The soup had a strong flavor of dried sardines and the noodles were very filling. I was satisfied with the meal. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On this day, I decided to visit a place that had caught my interest for a while. It's located less than 10 minutes from Kasai Station, and I wouldn't recommend walking from Nishi-Kasai. The place is called Daishoken, but it doesn't have roots in either Higashi-Ikebukuro or Nagafukucho. I ordered the large serving of tsukemen (850 yen + 100 yen). First, the dipping sauce was served, followed by the noodles and soup. The dipping sauce was very foamy, making it hard to see the whole thing. While the ramen here is usually based on niboshi broth (though they also have miso and salt options), the tsukemen seemed to have a different base. It has a strong animal flavor, but I also sensed the presence of bonito dashi. There was quite a bit of back fat floating on top, giving it a bit of a junky feel. The noodles had a smooth texture and were slightly soft. The soup didn't cling to the noodles too much, but it was just right when fully dipped. Normally, I only dip about half of the noodles in thick dipping sauce, but here it was okay to fully immerse them. The toppings included generously cut chashu, menma, wakame, and green onions. The chashu varied between chewy and melt-in-your-mouth types, making it quite enjoyable. What I found interesting was the aonori on the table. Sprinkling it on the noodles added a fresh taste of the sea. The soup wari served at the beginning remained warm till the end. It seemed to be made from niboshi. Despite my initial worry about it getting cold, it stayed warm throughout. I was concerned about not being able to finish the soup wari, as the dipping sauce was quite rich. In the end, I felt quite full. When you hear Daishoken, you might compare it to the ones in Higashi-Ikebukuro or Nagafukucho, but this place has its own unique tsukemen that stands out. While I'm curious about their ramen, I might end up coming back for the tsukemen again.

Yesterday, I drank a little too much, so when that happens, I always crave the miso spicy negi from this restaurant. I arrived just after 1 pm, but when I left the restaurant, there was already a line waiting. Although the name suggests that their soy sauce and tsukemen are delicious, I have only been eating this dish for many years now. It's perfect for the upcoming cold season. Thank you for the meal.

Today, on my revisit to the morning shift in August 2022, before picking up the computer I purchased at Yodobashi Camera, I visited this ramen restaurant near Yodobashi Camera for an early lunch to avoid crowds. I ordered the "Goma Dare Hiyashi" for 1050 yen including tax, at this restaurant which has a sister store in Yurakucho. The dish featured a generous serving of chashu pork on top of seaweed, half-boiled egg, tomato, cucumber, young sprouts, bean sprouts, and glass noodles, all on top of cold noodles dressed in a sesame sauce. The curly medium-thick noodles were cooked al dente and had a smooth and slippery texture due to the high water content. The sauce, a mixture of vinegar soy sauce and sesame sauce, had just the right balance of sesame richness and tanginess. I finished every last drop of the sauce, and I complimented the owner on the delicious meal.

Visited the shop at night. Be careful as they may not be open during regular business hours. The Char Siu Ramen in large size costs 1150 yen. The soup is simple and the noodles are just right. The Char Siu is thick and you get 5 slices. Overall, it was satisfying. The taste is average but on the higher end of average. I'd like to try the miso ramen next time. Thank you for the meal.

I've been here a few times, but I still think soy sauce ramen is the best. The noodles are regular, but the curly noodles are nice. It's a good portion size, a bit much for a late-night snack, but that's also nice. Water was dripping from the cooler and got on my clothes, so I moved seats, but the staff apologized profusely.

Soy sauce ramen (niboshi) ¥750
First, take a sip of the soup. The niboshi flavor is light and not overpowering. The toppings include seaweed, chashu pork, menma, and green onions. The portion of noodles is similar to a large serving at a regular ramen shop. I managed to finish it all. They have a parking lot for 2 cars, ¥220 for 60 minutes. The shop also offers a ¥110 service voucher. Unfortunately, I had to pay for it myself.

I went to Osho-ken in Katsushika. This is not the same as the Higashi-Ikebukuro or Nagafukacho branches, but it is located in Ginza Inz. I ordered the soy sauce ramen for 750 yen, with an additional 100 yen for nori and 50 yen for a flavored egg. The soup had a strong bonito broth flavor, was light and refreshing. It was perfect for my tired stomach after drinking too much the night before. The best part was that the soup was piping hot. The portion of noodles was generous, almost like a large serving at other shops. If you're craving a nostalgic taste, I would definitely visit this place again. It's listed as a store eligible for PayPay discounts in Edogawa Ward, but be aware that they may not accept PayPay (maybe they used to but not anymore?). So, if you're considering paying with PayPay, be cautious!

I am visiting the restaurants in Tokyo where I have been taken care of in order to return to Kyushu. This time, I went to Menya Taishoken. Their seafood-based shoyu ramen is very delicious. I usually get the large size, but this time I had the regular size. It's so tasty. I will visit again if I have the chance.

I visited after a long time. I had the usual "soy sauce ramen, large serving". In my previous review, I mentioned "2 servings of noodles", but to clarify, the large serving actually comes with about 1.5 servings of noodles, which is equivalent to the volume of 2 servings. It was very delicious. I will definitely visit again.

Well, it's decent I guess? Is it a Daishoken from Nagafuku style? How's the ramen? There are higher-level Nagafuku styles out there so it's hard to say... It feels like they haven't really found their groove yet? It's popular during lunchtime because there aren't many other options around here! The prices are normal for tsukemen and the taste is... well, average. It kind of feels like waiting for something more? Maybe I'll try the ramen next time? Locals seem to come here too! It's not a must-visit, but if you happen to be around, it's okay...

I visited the restaurant on Saturday at noon. It was already full and there were three people waiting outside. When I got in line, a beautiful hostess came to take orders. I ordered the delicious soy sauce ramen in large size that I had before. I was able to get inside the restaurant in about 10 minutes. The large size is amazing (laughs), as it comes with two servings and fills you up. Many other customers also seem to order the large size. I will definitely visit again.

I was talking about char siu on Twitter and suddenly felt like eating it. I searched on Tabelog while thinking about where to go in my local area. Maybe Daishoken? Huh? I haven't been to this place, but I've posted a review. I mistook it for the store on the south side of Kasai Station. I quickly deleted it and rewrote it for the correct place. Well, this must be fate too. Let's go check it out. It was my first time going there. It was smaller than I thought with just a counter, but the inside was clean. I stuck to my original plan and ordered the char siu ramen (1,050 yen). I could tell there was a lot of noodles, so I didn't get the large portion. First, I tried the soup. The saltiness comes through first. The char siu was delicious. The noodles were a bit lacking. It was tasty, but for 1,000 yen per meal, I felt slightly unsatisfied in terms of satisfaction. It would have been better if there was rice too.
