Exploring Tokyo's gourmet scene in Suginami Ward, Nishi-Ogikubo - featuring the popular and iconic salt bread with a half-cooked egg on top, as well as a baked cheese curry bread! Visiting the renowned bakery "Fujinoki" for the first time on a chilly winter day, we enjoyed a delicious meal at a creative Japanese restaurant in Nishi-Ogikubo. On the way back, we stumbled upon a delightful bakery. The bakery, established in 1937, has been operating for 85 years and is loved by locals and visitors alike. With its award-winning cheese curry bread, salt bread, and other delicious offerings, it's no wonder why this bakery is always bustling with customers. After a taste test at home, we found the cheese curry bread to be rich and flavorful, while the basil sausage panini and salt bread were also exceptional. The attention to detail and tradition of this longstanding bakery truly shines through in their delectable creations. We can't wait to go back and try their popular cheese fondue bread next time! This bakery's exceptional flavors are truly addictive. A must-visit for food lovers!

Fujinoki in Nishi-Ogikubo is a reliable place with consistently delicious food. Their curry bread, in particular, has won several awards and is unique and tasty. They offer a variety of salty and sweet options, all of which are delicious. It's a hidden gem of a shop that many may not realize used to be a mediocre cake shop before the change in ownership.

On Friday around 6:30 pm, I had some time before my meeting, so I stopped by! I bought a sweet red bean bun for 190 yen, the popular salted bread for 160 yen, and a sausage bread for 250 yen, totaling 600 yen! I paid with PayPay. All the bread was delicious, but my personal favorite was the sweet red bean bun ♡ It had Hokkaido red bean paste with gyuhi inside and a cherry blossom on top! The chewy bread dough complemented the filling perfectly, making it very tasty. They are individually vacuum-sealed, so they would make a great gift too ☆*゚ As of June 2023, the restaurant has a rating of 3.50 on Tabelog!

The top-ranking breads in the store are all delicious as expected. The baked cheese curry with a half-cooked egg on top is so good that it makes your brain melt. I later found out that there is a limit to the number of eggs produced each day due to recent egg situation, so I felt lucky to have been able to eat it. When you warm up the salted bread a little, it becomes incredibly juicy, making you feel like you're eating a meat pie. I also happened to come across freshly baked French toast, so I ate it while it was still hot in the nearby park. The sweet and sour taste of plum jam and yogurt was very refreshing.

Established in 1937, this long-standing bakery located a 3-minute walk from Nishi-Ogikubo Station's north exit is currently run by the third-generation owner. While they offer a variety of retro-style bread, they also have many modern options, including hard breads that may surprise you! Most of their bread is priced in the 300 yen range, excluding sandwiches. During my visit on a weekday morning, there was one elderly customer ahead of me, followed by families and solo diners. It is undoubtedly a popular spot.
- Ciabatta (Small Size) 150 yen
This lean bread with a high moisture content resembles French bread with its airy interior, but the outer crust is very soft, making it enjoyable even for those who dislike hard breads.
→ Even at room temperature, the thin crust is crispy! The crumb is chewy! The quality for 150 yen is outstanding. It has a nice level of saltiness, with a mild flavor profile that is easy for both children and elderly individuals to enjoy. Its easy-to-slice texture also makes it suitable for sandwiches.

Today, I bought curry bread that I missed out on last time. I also got some canelé and a croissant that looked delicious. The curry bread apparently won an award in a curry contest. After taking a bite, it tastes more like cheese than curry. The texture is more like pizza. It's definitely different from regular curry bread. It's still delicious though! The canelé is as delicious as ever. I might buy it every time. But, my favorite here is still the salt bread. Bon appétit!

The staff at 3 o'clock also recommend Fujinoki. The bread dough is very delicious, probably due to the quality of the ingredients. The salt bread has a nice crispy and fluffy texture. The surface is crispy but not hard, probably because the crust is very thin. I also tried the canelé, and the crispy texture on the outside and fluffy inside are wonderful. There are still more items I haven't tried yet. Looking forward to it. Thank you for the meal.

Croissant for ¥160 and Baked Cheese Curry Bread for ¥350 were purchased. The croissant was of such high quality that it was hard to believe it was only ¥160. The store had a space where small children could pass the time and there were picture books, which was cute. Will definitely visit again.

Visited a long-established bakery near Nishi-Ogikubo Station. There is also a bakery called "Fujinoki" in Kami-Shakujii, which is said to be a branch of the one in Nishi-Ogikubo. I had been there once before but didn't remember at all, so this time I will properly record it. I tried the curry bread and cream bread. The curry bread is quite delicious with good cost performance. It uses a thick curry roux with vegetables, not a dry curry. The slightly firm egg on top is easy to eat and enjoyable with a half-cooked texture. Nishi-Ogikubo is known for many famous bakeries, but this bakery is also very delicious.

A cheese curry bread topped with a half-cooked egg! It's no wonder it won the Gold Award for Curry Bread Grand Prix ✨ This is so delicious~ When it comes to curry bread, it's often deep-fried and filled with dry curry, but this one has regular curry filling, which is tasty, and the crispy cheese adds a nice touch. The half-cooked egg is perfectly done too. It may cost 350 yen, but it's very satisfying. It's a great value that you won't find at fancy bakeries. The cherry blossom red bean bread is also a seasonal treat. The saltiness from the pickled cherry blossoms adds a nice accent.

After having tankaree at Tomato-san, I was so full that I decided to walk from Ogikubo to Nishi-Ogikubo and then to Kichijoji, stopping by popular shops along the way. About a 5-minute walk from Nishi-Ogikubo Station, I found a bakery. I was actually aiming for EnTsukodo, a bakery aiming to be in the top 100, but I saw this shop bustling with customers and my taste buds tingled, so I made a spontaneous visit. I visited around 1 PM on a holiday. The shop had about 15 tatami mats of retail space with a well-balanced lineup of sweet bread, savory bread, baguettes, and more. Following the recommendations on the signs, I purchased the No.1 salted bread, No.3 peanut butter French bread, and the 4-time Grand Prix-winning baked cheese curry bread. The next morning, I tried them out. The salted bread had a triple texture of crispy, fluffy, and chewy, with just the right amount of oil and salt. The peanut butter French bread had a soft French bread filled generously with crunchy peanut butter, creating a satisfying blend of peanut aroma and buttery richness. The baked cheese curry bread was heated up in the microwave. The soft bread was layered with mayonnaise, topped with mild curry, and filled with cheese, ground meat, carrots, potatoes, and more. The runny half-boiled egg was irresistible. My family and I were thrilled that this impromptu visit turned out to be a hit. We look forward to coming back often. Thank you for the delicious food. We will be back again.

I think this bakery is popular among people of all ages and genders because of its various routes back home. The egg cake is different from egg bread, not too sweet, and has a chewy texture that feels like a sweet treat from a bakery that both adults and children would enjoy. I imagined the sweetness of egg bread when eating the cake, so it was surprisingly satisfying as a snack for both adults and children. There is another type of bread with a strong wheat fragrance that is delicious to eat as it is. I want to try more from this shop while wandering around.

I visited at 6:00 p.m. on a regular day. There was no wait. It had an old-fashioned bakery feel in the shopping street. I ordered salt bread, croissant (ate it before taking a picture...), and baked cheese curry bread. Delicious! Especially the baked cheese curry bread, the curry flavor was delicious and it had a good volume at a reasonable price. Thank you for the meal!

I had passed by the shop several times before, but finally had the chance to visit this time. I had the image of a traditional old bakery in town from the name and appearance of the shop, but I'm sorry, my image has changed. They have a variety of authentic French bread, traditional soft Japanese bread, and modern bread like salt bread! Here are the items I bought this time:
- Red bean bread with a crispy crust and pickled cherry blossoms. Simple and orthodox.
- Thin-skinned red bean bun with a unique shape that makes you look twice... like a chick? The moist red bean is in a hat-shaped bun, and when the surrounding dough expands, it creates this distinctive shape.
- Mentaiko French bread with a firm crust and plenty of spicy cod roe cream. It's easy to eat with a knife and I really liked it.
- Maple round bread that is soft, moist, and filled with maple filling. Sweet, fragrant, and delicious.
- Fresh bread loaf from Fuji Bakery. I toasted it and it was a traditional and delicious bread. I enjoyed the texture of the crust. I would like to try their baguette next time. Thank you for the meal.

First stop on the Nishi-Ogikubo bread tour! It's a bit of a walk from the station, but worth it. Originally planned for the second stop, but once again hit by the curse of temporary closure, so ended up at this first shop. The shop is quite spacious with a variety of bread lined up! They all look delicious! The bright atmosphere and the friendly staff make you feel at ease. As usual, I loaded up my tray one after another. The Ciabatta (S) for ¥150 is simply delicious. Even in the small size, it's quite filling. The Salt Bread for ¥150 has a nice juiciness to it! A bit more crispy on the outside would have been even better, but it's still tasty! The Cream Bread for ¥210 was okay for me personally, with a simple and comforting taste. The Croissant for ¥160 was not exactly my taste, being on the softer side like the croissants you often find in local bakeries. But for those who like this style, it would be enjoyable. And what really hit the spot this time were the Cheese Fondue for ¥320 and the Baked Cheese Curry Bread for ¥320! These two, especially the curry bread, were like a bundle of sin!! After reheating, the curry is so creamy and the egg is runny, it's amazing! It's so creamy that it can get messy while eating. Make sure to have a plate underneath. Yes, high in calories means delicious, right? A clear taste and a generous portion make it easy to understand. Oh, it's good! The Bitter Salted Caramel Rusk for ¥300 is slightly bitter and once you start, you can't stop! Perfect for a snack... until half of it mysteriously disappears. Beware... This time, I found the hearty savory breads more appealing. Next time, I'll focus more on the savory side. The reasonable prices and generous portions are also a plus. Above all, I might just get addicted to the curry bread here. Thank you for the meal!!!

A bakery located about a 2-minute walk from Nishi-Ogikubo Station North Exit. I visited at 8:30 am on a weekday, being the first customer. There were various types of bread, but I ended up buying the following three items: Baked Cheese Curry Bun for 320 yen, Salted Red Bean Sandwich for 220 yen, and Peanut French for 150 yen.
- Baked Cheese Curry Bun: This bun has won the Curry Bun Grand Prix gold award for three consecutive years, and it was incredibly delicious. The crispy cheese, fluffy bread, and tasty curry were perfectly balanced, and the soft-boiled egg mixed with the curry was outstanding.
- Salted Red Bean Sandwich: The combination of salted bread and red bean filling was excellent, and I finished it in no time. I also want to try their regular salted bread.
- Peanut French: This thin bread filled with plenty of peanut butter was easy to eat and enjoyable until the last bite.
All the bread was delicious, and I look forward to trying their salted bread, cheese fondue, and regular curry bun next time. It was a lineup of bread that made me want to eat more. Payment was accepted through PayPay. Thank you for the meal!

Visited around 12:30 on Saturday. Ordered a baked cheese curry bread with a half-boiled egg on top and a tuna and chicken mayo toast. It cost around 300 yen. I have had the cheese curry bread many times and it is really delicious. It's not just any curry, but a flavorful and tasty one. The tuna and chicken toast was my first time trying it, and it was also delicious. The combination of chicken mayo and toast is excellent. It was a satisfying meal of bread! Thank you for the meal!

A long-established bakery in Nishi-Ogikubo. I stopped by on my way and got breakfast because they opened early in the morning. It was around 8 am and there were a few customers in the small shop, and some bread was already sold out, showing how popular the shop is. The handmade interior gave a warm feeling, and all the bread lined up looked delicious. There were many varieties from sweet to savory bread. I always end up buying too much at a bakery. I tried the vegetable and mushroom stew. The long bread was filled with lots of ingredients and white sauce. It was absolutely delicious, just as expected. The combination of mushrooms and white sauce was excellent. I also had a cream puff. It had a creamy filling with a hint of yellow and powdered sugar on top, a classic cream puff. It was soft and delicious. I also had a mini croissant. I was already full, so the mini croissant was perfect. It had a crispy and light texture, not too sweet, with a strong buttery aroma. Everything was delicious. The lineup of bread in the cozy shop was amazing. They also had sandwiches and packaged drinks. I wish there was a shop like this near my house.

Chocolate and Walnut French Bread for 230 yen (tax included). Wow, it's quite hard! And the crust is thick! It has a crispy texture with a powdery feel. Instead of being easily bitten through in one go, it has a crunchy texture that requires a bit of effort to bite through. The crust asserts itself strongly in this French bread. It's not exactly crispy or crunchy, but rather a series of small crispy layers that collapse one after the other. The thick inner dough has a satisfying chewiness. The chocolate is neither milk chocolate nor dark chocolate, but has a creamy taste commonly found in homemade chocolates for Valentine's Day. The bread itself has a subtle sweetness and flavor, allowing the sweetness of the chocolate to shine through. The walnuts add a nice accent to the bread. The volume is also satisfying. After finishing it, you can feel the fatigue in your jaw from the hardness. Excellent. Variety of options: ★5, Hard bread quality: ★4, Soft bread quality: ★4. Overall, it's a bread that truly showcases its quality.

It's nice that they accept credit cards. I bought melon bread and milk bread. They were slightly sweet. It was an old-fashioned bakery. My children enjoyed eating them. I wonder about the ingredients, though. It seems like they have a commitment to quality.

There is a bakery near Nishi-Ogikubo Station that opens at 8:30 am. I bought four types of bread: a curry bread with half-boiled egg and melted cheese on top, a shrimp and pork cutlet panini, a cream bread, and a salt bread. The variety of bread options made it hard to choose, but personally, I really enjoyed the savory breads. The curry bread with half-boiled egg and melted cheese had a nice spicy curry flavor with the egg, cheese, and mayonnaise creating a deliciously junky taste. The shrimp and pork cutlet panini was a flavorful sandwich with both shrimp and pork, making it a great deal. The cream bread looked cute and tasted delicious. The most impressive was the salt bread - simple yet bursting with saltiness and buttery flavor. I also noticed other variations of salt bread, so I plan to come back and try them. Despite its cozy and traditional appearance, this bakery offers a wide range of unique and delicious bread that makes you want to visit again.
