The shop run by the younger brother of director Hayao Miyazaki is known for its Totoro cream puffs, but during the summer season, they also offer a limited edition "Ponyo on the Peach." It is only available on weekends and holidays, with a limit of 2 per person and no reservations allowed. I pre-ordered Totoro cream puffs and visited the shop at opening time. Located just a few minutes' walk from Odakyu Line Setagaya-Daita Station, the shop is in a quiet residential area. There was a long line of people waiting, whether for dining in or takeout. Just before opening, the line was split into two for those who wanted to dine in or takeout, with most people opting for takeout to get the Ponyo cream puffs. The shop, which seems to be a renovated detached house, is decorated with various Ghibli characters, making it a fun experience. It felt like being at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. I bought 6 Totoro cream puffs (currently available in 4 flavors) and 2 Ponyo cream puffs. Opening the box revealed a Ghibli world that was incredibly cute and brought a smile to my face. The Totoro cream puffs, with their whimsical faces, had a firm choux pastry to maintain their shape, filled with custard, chocolate, or seasonal blueberry yogurt cream. The Ponyo cream puffs, made of white bean paste, were slightly sweet and chewy, filled with white peach and lemon jelly, milk pudding, white peach jelly, and plum jelly, with crushed fruit for a refreshing and delightful taste. Despite my initial low expectations, both treats were surprisingly delicious, made with high-quality organic ingredients and great attention to detail. The prices are reasonable considering the character designs, and the operation of the shop was excellent. Many foreign tourists also visited the shop. If you're a Ghibli fan, this wonderful studio is a must-visit place.
