I had heard rumors about this restaurant for a while. My main purpose for the day was to go to a pastry shop called Gondola near this restaurant, along Yasukuni Street, as requested by my wife. As it happened, I arrived in Kudan around 11:30 am, just in time. Even though I wasn't asked to, I decided to stop by this restaurant since it was so close. I called ahead and placed an order to pick up. There were only two other customers in the restaurant at that time, probably because it was before the lunch rush. I was able to pay using my train pass, which was convenient. I paid ¥1,080 for each item. The location is at the corner of Yasukuni Street and Uchibori Street, a prominent spot near the intersection. The primary customers are likely office workers or residents in the surrounding area. I parked my car along Uchibori Street, where I wouldn't get a parking ticket, and quickly made my purchase. The sign with black kanji characters on a white background reading "Nori Bento" is quite eye-catching, even to those who are not interested. When I got home, my wife and I enjoyed the meal. Hmm, good! This bento box is well thought out in terms of ingredients and flavors, all condensed into a ¥1,000 meal. The chicken thigh meat, marinated in miso sauce and grilled, was delicious and impactful. The fried white fish was light and tender. The kinpira was perfectly seasoned. There was even a bit of pickled vegetables, which was a nice touch. Underneath all these ingredients were seaweed and rice, layered in two levels. The rice portion was just right, balancing out the whole meal. If you dig into the two layers of rice, you'll find a marinated egg seasoned with miso sauce and sprinkled with bonito flakes, which was also delicious. According to the disclaimer on the lid of the bento box, each ingredient, including rice, barley, seaweed, egg, vegetables (kinpira), pickles (pickled vegetables), meat (chicken thigh), tempura, fish (fried white fish), dashi soy sauce, and bonito flakes, is carefully selected for its origin and brand. Not only is the bento box sold, but it also comes with an explanatory note to appeal to the buyer. Recently, there seems to be a trend of "nori bento," but the way this restaurant makes and sells their nori bento stands out as one of the best in the group, in my opinion. It was a satisfying and delicious meal. Thank you for the feast.
