This shop, well-known for its Tengu-yaki often featured in the mass media. I purchased a cheese tart inside the shop, and then bought a ticket from the ticket machine outside to purchase the famous Tengu-yaki. The cheese tart was delicious with a slightly tangy and fluffy cheese filling contrasting nicely with the firm biscuit base. However, the Tengu-yaki was exceptional. It looks like a Tengu (a mythical creature in Japanese folklore) and the taste was surprising. I had imagined it to be like a monaka or a taiyaki based on what I had seen on TV, but the thin, crispy outer layer with a chewy texture overall was unexpected. Furthermore, the filling was made of black beans, giving it a unique flavor. It's a memorable experience, so I highly recommend trying it!

Arrived around 10:40 on Sunday morning. There were about 10 people waiting, waited for about 5 minutes before getting the Sanpuku dango for 400 yen. There was a trash can, so I ate it right away. It's not mitarashi dango, but a traditional miso-flavored one, and it was incredibly delicious! It's a must-have when going to Mount Takao. Thank you for the meal! I will definitely go again. ^ ^

Today, I went to Mt. Takao to eat Tengu-yaki, haha. I'm not sure what I'm doing anymore. I don't usually go hiking, so it feels refreshing. I walked a bit from Keio Takao-yamaguchi Station to Kiyotaki Station, and then took the cable car or lift to Mt. Takao Station. Right after getting off the cable car, there is a shop called Takao-san Sumika. They have a soba restaurant, Tengu-yaki, Tengu-ya, a cafe restaurant, and at the end, they were also selling Sanfuku dango. Since this page is about Japanese sweets, I thought Tengu-yaki or dango would be better, so I chose Tengu-yaki. I bought a ticket and got it right away. ▶︎Ordered Item: Tengu-yaki 200 yen. For 200 yen, it was big and heavy. It was kept really hot. The outside was crispy, and the inside was soft and chewy. It had a generous amount of black beans in the red bean paste, making it a luxurious treat. It's good for a quick snack. After eating this, I felt like climbing up the mountain, haha. After Tengu-yaki, I strolled around Mt. Takao. It's enjoyable when the weather is nice like this. If I have the chance to come again, I would like to try the Sanfuku dango next time. Thank you for the meal!

Trip to Mount Takao with friends. The journey to the top was longer than expected (maybe because we were too relaxed haha), and it was already evening by the time we started heading back. Before getting on the monorail, I just had to try the "Tengu-yaki" that I had been wanting to eat. The shop closes at 4:30 pm (4:00 pm in winter), and we made it just in time before closing. There was quite a line, but I couldn't leave without trying it! We waited in line, got the Tengu-yaki. The price of 200 yen per piece is quite reasonable. I also bought some Sanfuku dango. Seeing them being grilled made me want to buy them too.

This is a shop located right after getting off the cable car at Mount Takao. It used to be called Kasumi, but was renovated in 2018. They sell a famous Mount Takao specialty called "Mitsufuku Dango," which means "great fortune," "happiness," and "prosperity." The grilled dango with special walnut miso was delicious. They also offer "Tengu Yaki," which is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with black bean paste. It can get crowded with weekend hikers, so they provide ropes for lining up. It's a great opportunity to visit Mount Takao and enjoy the lift ride. Visiting 100 shops feels like a stamp rally. I discovered many new shops this time, some of which are long-established and I had never been to before. I used to think that Kyoto, with its connection to the tea ceremony world, had the best traditional Japanese sweets shops, but I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful Japanese sweets shops in Tokyo.

I took the cable car from Kiyotaki Station to Takao Station! I came here for this! This place was selected as one of the top 100 traditional Japanese sweets shops in Tokyo! "Mount Takao is far away..." I thought, but I decided to visit after going to Fujiya in Takahata Fudo, which is also on the list of top 100 sweet shops. I came to Mount Takao alone! It's been about a quarter of a century since I last visited Mount Takao. This is my third time in my life (the first time was for a university class, and the second time was when I came with my husband when we were dating). The cable car ride was uncomfortable due to the steep incline, and it was so hot when I arrived. I thought it would be cooler at the top of the mountain, but it was actually very hot and I felt exhausted. I decided not to hike to the summit this time (my main purpose was to enjoy food). I was planning to have soba for lunch as recommended by MyRebi, but then I found "Sanpuku Dango"! I want to eat this! As I got closer, I could feel the heat. They were grilling it over charcoal. When you pay, they brush on the special walnut miso sauce before handing it to you. It costs 400 yen per stick and is cash only! The walnut miso sauce was sweet and savory, and the grilled dango was chewy and fragrant. The combination was perfect. I was so happy to eat the Sanpuku Dango while looking at the blue sky! Then I moved to another spot (although it's listed as the same shop on Tabelog, it's actually on opposite ends of the same building) to buy and eat the famous "Tengu-yaki" from Mount Takao. It costs 200 yen each. You buy the desired number of tickets from the vending machine, which accepts IC cards, making it convenient! Tengu-yaki is similar to Imagawayaki, but it's filled with black beans! I received it hot and enjoyed it! Wow! It's filled with black beans! I love black beans, so it was delicious! The dough could have been a bit more crispy, as it felt a bit undercooked. But the black beans were tasty, so it was fine. Thank you for the delicious meal. I was completely satisfied after eating both the Sanpuku Dango and Tengu-yaki. My stomach was full. I'll try soba next time. Okay, let's go back! I took the uncomfortable cable car ride back to the base of the mountain. Ah, it was fun! Mount Takao must be beautiful with autumn foliage. The mountains were lush and green in early September, making it hot! I want to come back and eat the Sanpuku Dango again. This is from Yuki-Do main store!

Today, I went to Mount Takao. I climbed without using the cable car or lift, and on the way back feeling tired. I stopped by Sumika and had Tengu-yaki and Sanpuku dango. I had imagined Tengu-yaki to be like a dorayaki, but it was different - with a crispy skin and black bean paste, it was delicious. Sanpuku dango had a walnut miso coating and was sweet and tasty. Sweet treats really hit the spot after a tiring day. Thank you for the meal.

◼️Formerly known as "Kasumi," this shop is located in front of the cable car Takao-san station at an altitude of 472m. It is famous for "Tengu-yaki" and "Sanfuku dango." ◆Tengu-yaki [Specialty] A black bean paste made from Hokkaido black beans with a mild sweetness. The outside is crispy and large, providing a satisfying taste. Highly recommended for repeat visits!! ◼️The shop has a dedicated register for Tengu-yaki with a ticket vending machine system. It accepts transportation IC cards. It was renovated in 2018. Due to restrictions on new construction within the national park, the existing steel frame was retained and seismic reinforcement was carried out, while finishing and equipment changes were made. Tengu-yaki has been sold since 2007. ◼️◼️Great weather and great taste. I was pleasantly surprised. Remember to take your trash with you when visiting Mount Takao, so be careful when purchasing drinks and snacks.

I was looking for a list of the top 100 traditional Japanese sweets shops and found one in Hachioji! I decided to go check it out and ended up having to pay 1000 yen for parking. After parking, I asked around and found out that the shop was halfway up Mt. Takao, so I had to take a cable car to get there. There was also a lift available, but I heard it would be a long walk from where it drops you off. Before I knew it, my trip turned into a little adventure. The cable car had sealed windows and was packed with people, making it really hot and sweaty inside. Apparently, this cable car has the steepest incline in Japan. On the way up, we passed another car going down. I even got a photo with the handsome conductor. Despite being all sweaty, I enjoyed a freshly grilled hot walnut miso rice cake. It was delicious. Exploring the top 100 shops has its own unique stories. It's so much fun!

I visited "Takao-san Sumika," located on Mount Takao in Hachioji, Tokyo. The old store name was Kansumi Baitei. They were selected as one of the Top 100 Sweet Shops in Tokyo on Tabelog for 2023. The nearest station is Takao-san-guchi Station on the Keio Takao Line, right by Takaosan Cable Car's Takao-san Station. They are known for their popular Sanfuku Dango. It is said that eating these three dango (mochi balls) brings good luck, happiness, and prosperity. The exterior looks like a mountain hut, with a large sign reading "Tengu-yaki." You can see the kitchen through the glass inside. The menu I tried today included Tengu-yaki, a famous dish shaped like a Tengu (long-nosed goblin) with a crispy outer layer and a generous filling of mildly sweet black bean paste. I also had the Sanfuku Dango, grilled over charcoal and coated with a sweet and savory walnut miso sauce. The combination of the walnut flavor and the sauce pairs well with the chewy dango. I heard that the view of Tokyo's night skyline from here is beautiful, so I would like to visit again at dusk. Thank you for the delicious meal.

It turned out to be a famous shop, so when I went there in the summer, I accidentally ended up on the advanced course without realizing it. I was so tired and hungry, but that made the food taste even better. It was the best snack! I think these kind of steamed buns are better than soft serve ice cream because they can replenish sodium after exercise. You can also take a cable car to get there, but I would recommend enjoying it after a fun hike!

After climbing Mt. Takao, I made a detour here to buy souvenirs. After purchasing souvenirs, I felt a little hungry so I ended up buying Tengu-yaki. The outer layer of the pastry was crispy while the inside was soft and chewy. It was filled with plenty of sweet black bean paste, giving it a satisfying taste. Surprisingly, the sweetness of the paste was not overwhelming, so it didn't feel too heavy. Since you can only eat this here, it might be a good idea to enjoy it as a souvenir of your climb!

I visited around 1:50 in the afternoon. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, there is a long line in front of the shop. I bought 5 Tengu-yaki for 200 yen each. They are shaped like Tengu, who is said to be the attendant of Iinawa Daigongen at Takaozan Yakuo-in. Since they are freshly baked, they are warm. I brought them home and warmed them up in the microwave before eating. Inside, there are black beans that give a unique flavor. Thank you for the meal.

On Friday before 4pm, I found myself near the cable car boarding area. I had decided to try the Tengu-yaki, but since I had already eaten a lot while walking around, I thought maybe I should save it for next time. However, I couldn't resist and ended up getting it after all. Tengu-yaki costs 200 yen. Since it was a late afternoon on a weekday, there was no line. I purchased a ticket from the vending machine. The Tengu-yaki was cute and warm, with a crispy exterior and a chewy interior. The black beans inside added a nice touch. It was delicious and addictive. Highly recommended!

I did a long-awaited hike on Mt. Takao! Well, I used the cable car to get to the top, but still. Near the cable car station at the summit, there is a shop called Sumika. You can buy cute "Tengu-yaki" there! I bought one to reward my tired body after hiking. The crispy skin with black bean paste inside is incredibly delicious! It has a distinct black bean flavor that is different from red bean paste. What is this? I'm hooked!!! There are other shops near Mt. Takao that sell sweets made with black bean paste, so it must be a specialty. The Tengu design is cute, it looks great, and the black bean paste is incredibly delicious. If you hike Mt. Takao, be sure to try this Tengu-yaki! Highly recommended!

I stopped by because I really wanted to try it when I went to Mount Takao. The Tengu-yaki was freshly baked, so it was hot and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the sweet red bean paste was just right. The cheese tart had a crispy tart crust on the outside which was even better than I had expected.

I bought it thinking it was taiyaki, but it was totally different! It had black beans inside and tasted like white bean paste. The dough was chewy and unique. I want to climb Mt. Takao again just to eat this! There was a long line.

I visited around 14:30 on a holiday. I was feeling a bit hungry so I came to try the famous Tengu-yaki at Mt. Takao. As seen on TV, there was a long line. I waited about 5 minutes to reach the ticket machine. I bought one Tengu-yaki for 200 yen. After waiting for about 3 minutes, I received it at the window. It was still hot because it was freshly baked! I took a bite right away! Yes, it's delicious (^^) It was thicker than I expected, and filled with plenty of sweet red bean paste! It seems like a good snack or souvenir. Thank you for the meal. *You can use electronic money for payment.

The cable car and lift on the way back were extremely crowded, with numbered tickets being issued. Since there was a wait, I decided to try the Tengu-yaki that I had been wanting to eat. It was around 3:15 PM, and before heading up, there was a long line for Tengu-yaki, but at this timing, the line was almost empty. The dough was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, similar to a taiyaki, and the filling had plenty of sweet black bean paste which was incredibly delicious! The ones with chestnuts were limited in quantity, so they were already sold out by the time we arrived at noon. You purchase the desired amount with a food ticket, hand it over at the counter, and receive your order. The cable car and lift were guided by railway staff who were all very kind and provided clear announcements, so everyone waited patiently without any confusion.

When I went to Mount Takao and waited for the cable car to go down, I ate some snacks. I wasn't expecting much, to be honest. I kind of made fun of the tengu-shaped imagawayaki at first, but boy was I surprised! It was filled with my favorite black beans, crunchy on the outside, and incredibly delicious. If you go to Mount Takao, be sure to try it again!

I visited in search of Tengu-yaki. The limited-time chestnut version was sold out before 1:30 PM, but I was able to get it without much wait! It had chunky red bean paste with large beans, giving it a unique bean flavor that was delicious!! I was healed by the cute Tengu design!
