One of the three famous Karinto shops in Tokyo! Tachibana in Shinbashi, Yushima Hanatsuki in Yushima, and Kosakura in Asakusa. I was disappointed when I visited once and they were temporarily closed, but today it was open and I was able to purchase some. This time, I chose a mini box with two small bags. The flavors were Yumeji, Furusato with black sugar, Kinako, and Maple flavored Kaede, all in the set. Since it was my first time, I went with Yumeji and black sugar. The packaging is cute and makes you happy. The Yumeji is extremely thin, unlike regular Karinto, with a unique crispy texture. It is coated with sugar, so the surface is slightly rough and properly sweet. The aroma varies by color and is fragrant and addictive. The Furusato, with black sugar, has a sharp aroma, with more richness and sweetness than Yumeji. This one might be better as a tea snack. Both Yumeji and Furusato have a strong flavor and are very delicious, I finished them quickly. It might be my favorite among the three famous Karinto. The fragrant taste left a lasting impression and the flavors were quite to my liking. The size makes them easy to eat. I would like to try different flavors next time. Thank you for the meal!

The shops selected as the top 100 are selling small packaged items for 500 yen or less, making them easy to buy. However, in terms of taste, I think you can find similar items in department store basements. Places like Ginza Mitsukoshi have a store called Kuyuan, where you can buy famous sweets from all over the country, so I think that's good enough for me.

Exploring around Asakusa. Purchased the following items at Karinto Kozakura: Mini Assorted Box (Maple and Kinako flavors) for 432 yen (tax included). As soon as I tried them, I couldn't stop eating them. The karinto was so delicious, I didn't remember it being this good! It was crispy and fragrant, with a gentle sweetness from the kinako and maple flavors. It was so tasty that I finished it all in one go. Thank you for the meal.

This is a long-established traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Asakusa. It is also one of the three famous karinto shops in Tokyo. The difference between this shop and the other two is that the karinto here is thinner and shorter, resulting in a more concentrated flavor which I personally prefer. However, the flavor variations tend to be on the sweeter side typical of traditional shops, so a flavor with a hint of bitterness might also be nice.

On Tuesday morning, I visited this shop around 10 o'clock. There were no other customers. It's about a 2-3 minute walk from Tokutaro. I bought a small pack of "Yumeji" karinto for 432 yen to take home and eat. It was elegant and the thin karinto was easy to eat, so it was really good! Thank you for the meal. I will definitely go again. ^ ^

I went to Asakusa and bought some karinto at Karinto Kozakura. I bought the most popular one called Yumeji, which came in a bag with cherry blossom patterns. The colorful and thin karinto had a crispy texture. Each color had a slightly different taste. Despite being karinto, it was not too sweet and very easy to eat. It was a delicious karinto with little greasiness. The stylish outer bag makes it a perfect souvenir.

I used takeout. I was able to enter smoothly on a weekday lunch. They have recently started selling small bag sets, which makes it easy to use casually. I chose the kinako and black sugar set. When I tried it immediately, the unique flavor of the karintou was very delicious! The kinako and black sugar also added a nice flavor accent, complementing the original taste of the karintou well. There are four types of kombu sets, so I would like to try the others as well.

Selected as one of the top 100 traditional Japanese sweets and confectionery shops in Tokyo in 2023. I visited the shop around 14:20 on a weekday and there was one customer ahead of me. This shop specializes in one of Tokyo's three major karinto (deep-fried sweet snack). I purchased a mini box containing two small bags of newly released flavors.

Mini Box with 2 Flavors: Black Thick & Yellow Powder (432 yen including tax)

There were several flavor combinations to choose from, but I decided on this one. The black thick karinto was on the thicker side, with a moderate sweetness and not too overpowering. The yellow powder karinto was thinner, with a subtle sweetness and a light texture. It was nice to be able to enjoy two different flavors in small portions. The mini box is stylish and reasonably priced, making it a good option for a small souvenir.

Asakusa. Further back in the Kannon temple. Both the exterior and interior of this shop have a charming atmosphere. Today's purchase - Mini box 432 yen x3. Choose 2 out of 4 flavors (thin, thick, black sesame, yellow powder) to mix and pack in a small box for sale. Perfect for those who want to enjoy various flavors. The karinto here is elegant in both packaging and taste, making it suitable for a small gift. I also saw it being used as one of the mignardises at a nearby shop, Omage. After enduring the heat, I enjoyed it with warm roasted green tea. Thank you for the meal.

There seems to be something called the "Three Great Karinto of Tokyo." They are "Tachibana" in Ginza, "Kagetsu" in Yushima, and "Kosakura" here in Asakusa. I'm not particularly interested in karinto, so I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it, but I happened to be nearby so I decided to check it out. The shop is located in a residential area rather than a shopping street. Inside, the products are lined up on tatami mats! One of the staff members is taking what seems to be an order over the phone. It seems like a popular shop after all. I decided to buy a "Mini Box" for an affordable price of ¥432 just to try it out. It contains two bags, with the most popular "Yumeji" flavor included. The other one was black sugar. I took them home and tried them. They had a simple and elegant sweetness with a crispy texture. ...Hmm, I can't really say much more about it (^^;) Since I don't have any particular attachment to karinto, my opinion may not be very meaningful, but I couldn't really distinguish the difference in taste... (^^;) If it had a stronger flavor, I might have eaten more quickly... (^^;) It seems to be a traditional and elegant karinto. At least I got to experience the taste of one of the Three Great Karinto, so that's good (^^).

I visited during the day on a regular day. The place had a quaint atmosphere like an old folk house, and the staff were very polite. I ordered a set of seven bags. It included seven different flavors: maple, ginger, kinako (roasted soybean flour), sakura (cherry blossom), furusato (hometown), yumeji, and omoide. It's a set where you can try most of the series. The karinto (deep-fried sweet snack) was crispy and thin, making it easy to eat, and all of them were very delicious. The maple flavor in the maple one wasn't very strong, but the ginger had a strong aroma. The sakura had a great combination of cherry blossom flavor and the salty taste of pickled salt with the sugar coating, making it really delicious. The furusato and omoide were thicker karinto, providing a satisfying texture. Yumeji, from what I read, seems to use vegetables as a coloring agent, but it had a nice flavor to it. I was able to enjoy many traditional flavors. Thank you for the delicious meal.

The predecessor of this establishment was the traditional Japanese restaurant "Fukushiman," founded in the third year of the Meiji era. The 6th generation proprietress came up with the idea of creating a long-lasting souvenir for the restaurant around 1950. At that time, the thin karinto (fried dough snack) was considered innovative. One of their specialties is the "Yumeji" karinto, subtly flavored with sesame and visually vibrant with seaweed and paprika. The business is managed by Fukushiman Co., Ltd., with Kenji Ida as the overall responsible person. Established in 1870, the long-standing traditional Japanese restaurant "Fukushiman" was founded by the 6th generation, Takiko Ida, around 1950 for the purpose of creating a long-lasting souvenir for the restaurant. In 1989, a store was opened next to the restaurant. The restaurant has since closed down. Other than the Tokyo Three Great Karinto, there are also "Tachibana" in Ginza and "Kagetsu" in Yushima.

Tokyo's top three karinto signboard products, "Yumeji," are karinto with paprika and aonori, colorful and slightly sweet with a lingering deliciousness. I also tried karinto made with Okinawan black sugar, but this one is the best type. I gave it to my grandma and she was really happy!

Today we went on a tour of Asakusa and visited the karinto shop "Kosakura". It is one of the "Tokyo Karinto Three Families" along with "Yushima Kagetsu" and "Tachibana". We arrived around 11:30 on Saturday, and there were no other customers. The shop has a traditional Japanese atmosphere with tatami flooring, resembling a kimono store. They offer around 7-8 different types of karinto in various combinations and sizes.
We ordered the "Seven Variety Assortment" for 1,080 yen, which is a popular choice. The assortment included "Yumeji", "Omoide", "Furusato", "Kaede", "Kinako", "Sakura", and "Shoga". Each karinto had its own unique flavor, with some being less sweet and others having a hint of sesame, black sugar, or ginger. Our favorites were "Yumeji", "Furusato", and "Sakura".
Overall, the karinto had a light sweetness and minimal oiliness, making them enjoyable to eat. The packaging of the assortment in a cute drawstring bag was a nice touch. They make great souvenirs or gifts. We enjoyed our experience at Kosakura.

As a souvenir, I went to Komame in Asakusa for a safe and unique taste. The area around Sensoji Temple is bustling with both young people and foreign tourists, but the back alleys are less crowded. The shop has limited hours until 5:30 PM, but I arrived before 5 PM and there were only two other customers. I purchased two sets of the newly released four-flavor tea bags for 648 yen each. They can last for about two months, making them great for gifts or personal use. The bags contain four different flavors: Yumeji (light sweetness), Kaede (maple), Omoide (strong sweetness), and Furusato (black sesame). They are easy to eat, each with a unique taste and a hint of sesame oil flavor, making them truly delicious.

Visited "Karin-to Kosakura," one of Tokyo's three famous karinto shops, an 8-minute walk from TX Asakusa Station. Arrived around 11 am on Saturday with no wait. Easily paid at the counter. Bought the recommended assorted set (thin style, with kinako) for 972 yen. The box and paper bag were elegant and stylish! Tried thin karinto for the first time, and it was quite good! The combination of the karinto's flavor and the kinako's aroma was irresistible! Delicious. Enjoyed it until the last bite.

This is Kosakura in Asakusa. From Asakusa Station, beyond Sensoji Temple to the depths of Asakusa, along with Ginza's "Tachibana" and "Yushima Kagetsu," it is known as the "Karingo Gomikyo" trio. The origin of the shop dates back to the early Meiji era, when it was first created as a souvenir for long-lasting customers of the long-established Tokyo Asakusa restaurant "Fukushiman." In 1961, the 6th generation proprietress opened a specialized Karingo shop "Kosakura" next to the restaurant. The shop's signature product is "Yumeji," a colorful karingo with flavors such as sesame, nori, and paprika. It is made with the image of a graceful woman painted by Takehisa Yumeji. The small, thin karingo has a dense texture of well-kneaded wheat, a crispy texture from being fried in oil, a subtle sweetness, and a hint of sesame flavor. The mild taste is loved by everyone and makes a perfect souvenir.

I visited "Kosakura" in Asakusa, behind Kannon. I didn't have a specific purpose for visiting, but stopped by while wandering around the area before my reservation time at "Shukuro" for onigiri. I purchased a bag of "Kosakura" karinto, which I had received from a friend a long time ago but was buying for the first time myself. The bag contained four small bags, perfect for my own snacks. "Kosakura" is famous as one of the "Three Great Karinto Shops of Tokyo" and is relatively light, with a good shelf life, making it a convenient gift for others. I decided to treat myself this time. Today I visited a long-standing traditional store in Asakusa, one of the three major karinto shops in Tokyo. It was just before 1 pm on a weekday and there was no particular crowd. I decided to purchase the set of four tea bags that was newly released. The set included four different flavors: Yumeji, Kaede, Omoiden, and Furusato. Yumeji and Kaede are slender karinto with Yumeji being the shop's representative product, with a subtle sweetness and a sesame flavor. It has a colorful appearance with seaweed and paprika coloring. Kaede has a maple flavor with an elegant sweetness that makes it disappear quickly. Omoiden and Furusato are thicker karinto. Omoiden, also known as Shiratai, has a regular taste based on white sugar. Furusato uses black sugar from Okinawa, giving it a fragrant black sugar aroma. It was a delicious treat. These karinto are recommended as souvenirs as well. They offer a great variety of flavors. I will definitely visit again if I have the chance. *Visit rating: 3.65
