On this day, I visited Coffee Nikki for their 1st anniversary and then stopped by Ampolte for the first time to buy some baked goods. I thought about heading back to work, but since I had come this far, I decided to walk a little further down Shinjuku Street towards Yotsuya Station and extend my legs to Sakamoto-ya. It had been about 2 and a half years since my last visit, back before the pandemic. Upon entering, the shop looked the same as before, and the old lady was as lively as ever. There were two other ladies behind the counter. I purchased the usual half-pound boxless Castella, which had gone up by 40 yen to 620 yen (tax included) since my last visit, but considering the recent rise in ingredient costs, it was understandable. I even thought it was good that it only went up by 40 yen. On this day, I had already eaten a lot at Coffee Nikki, so I saved the baked goods from Ampolte for the next day. I had planned to enjoy the Castella from Sakamoto-ya over the next few days with tea, but an unexpected situation arose. I had forgotten my wallet at home and couldn't buy lunch, so I had to use the Castella from Sakamoto-ya as my lunch that day. It turned into a very unusual Castella lunch. When I opened the thin orange wrapping paper with the paulownia crest design, I found the Castella wrapped in plastic inside. It was surprisingly heavy when I held it. I removed the cardboard underneath the plastic and the paper stuck to the bottom of the Castella before I could peel it off properly. This might have been a new addition to prevent the shape from getting distorted. Despite the slight disappointment of the sugar sticking to the cardboard, the taste remained the same. I enjoyed the simple yet delicious Castella made with only eggs, flour, sugar, corn syrup, and mirin in one go. I was completely satisfied and felt like I wouldn't need Castella for a while.

Arrived at around 2pm on Saturday afternoon. There was one customer ahead of me. I was able to place my order quickly and purchased a half pound of castella cake without a box for 650 yen. When I bought it, it was still warm and fluffy. When I ate it at home, I found sugar cubes at the bottom, giving it a nostalgic taste. The castella cake was elegant and delicious. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely go back again.

I received a 1.5-pound Castella cake and they even gave me the end piece as a bonus, which was amazing. The Castella cake is fluffy and has a gentle, not overpowering taste. The end piece is sweeter and has a stronger honey flavor. Castella cakes sell out quickly, so reservations are a must.

Located a 5-minute walk from Yotsuya Station, Sakamoto-ya is a well-known traditional Japanese confectionery store famous for its castella cake, established in 1897. Last week, when I visited the store at 1:00 pm, the castella cake was sold out, so I returned. On a weekday, I entered the store at 9:45 am with no customers before or after me. I purchased 2 pieces of steamed chestnut yokan for 550 yen and a half pound of castella cake without a box for 650 yen, totaling 1200 yen. Sakamoto-ya's castella cake is made with eggs, flour, sugar, corn syrup, and mirin, without any additives. The castella cake is wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and then wrapped in paper, without a box, and is the main product. The one I bought was fluffy, moist, with a good elasticity, and had a nice crunchy texture at the bottom from the large granules of sugar. The seasonal steamed chestnut yokan has a strong sweetness from the chestnuts, while the sticky yokan part has a balanced sweetness, making it a delicious combination. It goes well with tea, so I ended up eating both pieces in no time. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Castella is a popular shop that sells out quickly, so this time I tried delicious chestnut yokan at Sakamotoya in Yotsuya, Shinjuku, Tokyo. Chestnut yokan for 550 yen. Follow them on Instagram at tsukasan777 and on Twitter at tsukasan2010.

I heard there was a famous castella shop in Yotsuya, so I visited right away. It may have been the first time I visited a genuine castella specialty store since I went to Nagasaki. The old-fashioned sign was still there. Inside the store, there was a man cutting freshly baked castella and a smiling woman. I wanted to buy half a pound, but I didn't want to regret it later, so I bought one pound (1,400 yen). *Maybe it was because I visited early, or maybe it was the privilege of having a child with me, but I received some end pieces as a service. Lucky me!! I carefully cut it at home. When I tried it, it was moist with a simple sweetness. And the elasticity!! It's rare for castella. I was surprised because it was my first time experiencing this. It's just delicious! That's all there is to it!! The kids loved it too and said they want to buy it again.

[First Visit on September 16, 2023] From Exit 2 of Tokyo Metro Yotsuya Station, cross the Koshu Kaido and continue towards Shinjuku for a while until you see the shop on your left. When I searched for the location of the shop on Tabelog while writing this review, it showed a different address (closer to Yotsuya). Despite some confusion, I finally arrived around 1:15 pm on a Saturday afternoon. I entered the shop after the previous customer left. I visited this shop with the understanding that it was famous for castella, but there were only price tags for different sizes of castella with no actual products on display. When I asked for half a pound without a box for home use, the staff member disappeared behind me... and brought out a large uncut piece of castella! They then cut the specified amount and sold it to me in simple packaging. The label showed that it was made just a week ago. When I opened the extremely simple caramel-wrapped packaging, I found a plain castella wrapped in plastic inside. Peeling off the sheet on top revealed coarse sugar peeking through. The handmade feel was evident due to the sparse appearance in some places. A few days after purchase, the stickiness on the surface emphasized the sweetness. Upon cutting and tasting it, the presence of coarse sugar added a touch of luxury to the castella. The texture was surprisingly soft and cushiony despite the dense dough. It was easy to swallow even without a drink, which was important to me. The lack of excessive sweetness made it enjoyable to eat without feeling sick, unlike with overly sweet desserts. I was initially cautious due to the stickiness on my hands, but the sweetness did not linger. I was surprised that I could eat half of the castella in one go without feeling heavy. I have tried the famous castella from Nagasaki before, but finishing this amount without feeling overwhelmed was a first for me. I felt like having black coffee while eating it, and they paired well. Although the shop seemed ordinary and traditional, it had good customer traffic and potential for attracting customers. It's impressive when such a shop receives high ratings from reviewers. Thank you for the meal.

The katsudon restaurant in Ogikubo is called Sakamoto-ya. This Sakamoto-ya is a traditional Japanese sweets shop located in Yotsuya. They are famous for their castella cake. When I visited on a Saturday morning, I saw a large and delicious-looking castella cake at the back of the counter. They sell this large castella cake in smaller portions. This castella cake, full of eggy goodness, is really delicious. I bought a half-kilo for 650 yen, wrapped in simple packaging for home consumption. Last time, they gave me the extra bits that came off during cutting, but not this time. On this day, in addition to the castella cake, they had chestnut sweets due to the season. I added the Marugoto Shinkuri Flour to my purchase. I think it was 500 yen for two pieces. The castella cake is best when warmed up in the microwave after it cools down, but be careful not to overdo it and dry it out. The bottom is sprinkled with sugar. And be careful not to accidentally eat the wax paper that comes with it. If you don't peel it off properly, it will take the sugar and burnt parts of the castella cake with it. The chestnut flour tastes just like real chestnuts. They must be adding some sweet element to the chestnuts to make these sweets. This is also delicious and goes well with tea. It's only available during this season, so if you see it, definitely buy it!

I visited "Sakamoto-ya," a super long-established Japanese confectionery shop and dessert shop with a history dating back to 1897, located a 5-minute walk from Yotsuya Station. I arrived just before the store opened on a weekday and there was no wait, so I was able to enter smoothly. I purchased a half-pound boxed castella cake for 750 yen. Since there was no dining area, I enjoyed it at home. The castella cake had a fluffy texture and a perfect level of sweetness, making it delicious. The flavor of the eggs was also excellent! I enjoyed it until the last bite.

Today's snack was from a place called "Kastera Sakamotoya" that caught my attention in a review by a user named "apakaan" the other day. It's a bit of a walk from Yotsuya Station. I was planning to go there just before the end of my lunch break, so I called ahead to make a reservation. When I entered the shop, I saw that the shelf where the castella was displayed in other reviewers' photos was already empty. Phew, good thing I made a reservation! I informed the staff that I had a reservation and received a 0.5 kg castella. They accept payment in cash as well as through PayPay. They handed it to me in a bag. I took it home and unwrapped it. It was wrapped in paper, and inside was wrapped in plastic wrap. There was a large piece of coarse sugar on the back! The slightly protruding honey at the edges added to the nice touch. The castella was fluffy with a strong eggy taste and a mild sweetness. It was delicious! I think it would go well with green tea more than coffee. I wish I had gotten a whole kilogram. I'm satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

I bought a half-size castella cake from this shop that was selected as one of the top 100 shops. The taste is delicious, and the price is reasonable. However, I prefer castella cakes like Ukokkei or Castela-ira, even though they are more expensive because they are moist and I like them. I can't really tell the difference. The remaining top 100 shops are decreasing, and I don't see the point in going around to them, so it is only a pain for me.

I thought it was a castella shop, but they also had other sweets. Maybe because of the current season, they had sweets made with chestnut flour, like chestnut tea towels. It's a delicious chestnut sweet that makes you feel the autumn. They sell castella starting from half a pound, and I bought it without a box to enjoy at home. It has a moist and chewy texture. The castella here is really delicious.

I visited in the late morning on Saturday. The location information on Tabelog was slightly off, so I got a little lost, but I found it by following the main road from Yotsuya Station. I planned to eat alone, so I got a half-size castella to go. The castella had a fluffy texture with a hint of egg yolk flavor, and the sweetness of the Zaramé matched well, making it delicious. I bought a half-size, but after finishing it, I thought I could have had a little more because it was so good. I would like to buy it again when I'm nearby.

On a hot Saturday afternoon, I bought a castella cake for 650 yen without a box. I paid with PayPay and couldn't resist eating a piece right away. It had a nice texture with a moist and soft taste, complemented by a crunchy layer of sugar on the bottom. Unlike the light and fluffy castella from Fukusaya, this one had a more rustic and satisfying bite to it.

◼️The specialty of this place is the "kasutera" baked slowly in a gas kiln for one hour. The kasutera cakes are made in the shape of a kasutera mold, with each one weighing 8 kan (approx. 2.7 kg), and the third-generation owner makes 80 kan worth of kasutera in a day. ◆Kasutera 0.5 kan [Most popular]: A richly flavored, classic kasutera with large sugar crystals at the bottom. ◼️Established in 1897, the shop was renovated in 2015. The tradition of making kasutera started in 1916 by the second-generation owner, who self-taught himself the technique. The current owner is the third-generation, Mr. Junichi Sakamoto. ◼️The boxed kasutera cakes are popular as gifts, but the most popular item is the 0.5 kan for home consumption, wrapped in plastic wrap and then in wrapping paper.

I went to Yotsuya and visited Sakamoto-ya, a specialty store for castella cakes that has been in business for a long time. Some customers make reservations, but I was able to purchase without one. I bought a half-pound castella cake without a box. When I opened the packaging, a well-browned castella cake appeared. They cut it to my preferred size. It's a delicious castella cake with a sweet taste and a rich egg aroma. The bottom is lined with coarse sugar, adding a nice texture. It's a traditional castella cake that would make a great souvenir.

I walked 5 minutes from Yotsuya Station to buy castella at Sakamoto-ya. The map on Tabelog was pointing to a different location, so I got lost, but finally arrived. The castella had an old-fashioned feel to it, and half a loaf cost 650 yen. As for the taste, it was pretty much as I had imagined. It was moist to an average degree, more on the coarse side rather than having a fine texture. It had that old-fashioned vibe. Thank you for the meal!

There is a castella shop in Yotsuya. It is about a 5-minute walk from Yotsuya Station. When you search for the shop on Google Maps, for some reason, the intersection right in front of the station comes up, but in reality, it is located about 2 blocks further back, so be careful. They sell castella starting from 0.5 kin, increasing by 1 kin increments. On this day, I purchased 0.5 kin. The castella is wrapped in plastic wrap and cut with a knife. The beautiful browned surface looks delicious. When I tried it, the texture was fluffy rather than moist. The sweetness was not too overwhelming, very elegant. I felt the taste of a long-established shop.

This is a famous castella shop in Yotsuya. I often passed by it and was curious, but never really felt like having castella until now. My trusted friend recommended it highly, so I decided to buy it for the first time. The price varies depending on whether you want it boxed or unboxed. For home consumption, I opted for the unboxed version. I purchased a 0.5-pound castella. It seems like there is a kitchen in the back, so maybe they make it there. I think they have other products besides castella, but I was so focused on the castella that I can't remember anything else. The castella has a shelf life of about 7 days at room temperature. Payment can be made in cash or through PayPay. I ordered the castella 0.5-pound unboxed for 650 yen. The castella looked delicious even before cutting it. My experience with castella is quite low, but I always thought it was harder. However, this one was fluffy even before cutting it. When I tried it, it was so delicious! The dough is surprisingly elastic, and when you eat it, it is moist with a good mouthfeel, quite sweet but with a strong flavor. It also had a lovely rustic aroma. Furthermore, the bottom had a crunchy layer of sugar, which added a nice touch to the overall taste. Despite being sweet overall, it was well-balanced, so I didn't get tired of it while eating. The next day, I tried microwaving it, and the dough became even fluffier, enhancing the aroma and sweetness. Although it was still within the expiration date, it had deteriorated somewhat the next day, so I was glad I tried it. I recommend this way of eating it for the following days. I've tried castella from places like Bunmeido, but personally, this was the best castella I've ever had. I almost ate it all at once, but managed to regain my composure. I will cherish the rest and enjoy it slowly. I really liked it! Thank you for the meal!

[Top 100 Stores in 2023] On my way to the reservation destination today, I passed by a castella shop building near Yotsuya Station, heading towards Yotsuya Sanchome. The shop is on the 1st floor, and the interior exudes a sense of history, especially with the shop owner adding to that historic feel. The shop was bustling with customers purchasing large quantities of castella, keeping the owner busy with packaging. After waiting for about 5 minutes, I purchased a half-pound castella (without a box) that was already packaged on the counter. The transaction was completed in just a few seconds. As I was about to leave, I was stopped and given a piece of castella as a souvenir. Although they also sell these in Chiba, the generosity of the shop owner was impressive. When I opened the paper wrapping, the castella was wrapped in plastic wrap. The castella itself had a slightly sweet and chewy texture, which paired well with milk.

I visited "Sakamoto-ya", a shop located in the lush green town of Yotsuya. It has been selected as one of the top 100 sweets shops in Tokyo by Tabelog in 2023. Congratulations. Established in December 1897, this long-established Japanese confectionery store was renovated on December 10, 2015. It is about a 4-minute walk from Yotsuya Station, which is served by the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line and Namboku Line. JR Chuo Line Yotsuya Station is also within walking distance. Various sizes of castella cakes are displayed in the showcase inside the store. When you place an order, they will cut it into the desired size for you. Today, I tasted the following menu item: Castella cake. The castella cake is baked fresh in the store every day, giving it a fluffy and moist texture. It has a good color and a subtle aroma of eggs. It seems that the number of cakes baked per day is limited. They sell castella cakes in various sizes, so it's nice to be able to choose according to your needs. Thank you for the meal.
