I visited "Ningyo-yaki Yamadaya Honten," near Kinshicho Station, for the first time and purchased a set of three varieties: Mikasa, Taiko, and Tanuki. The amount of red bean paste inside was Mikasa (small), Taiko (medium), and Tanuki (large), and it was quite sweet. The red bean paste paired very well with the dough and tasted delicious in a normal way.

Depending on the sweet bean paste used, the price can vary, and it seems like it's delicious. I heard rumors about this ningyoyaki (doll-shaped cake). Let's try one of each! Oh, two without sweet bean paste, please. I like just the cake part. The cake without sweet bean paste is amazing. It's different from castella cake, with a perfect balance of moisture, texture, and sweetness. It might be the best one I've ever had. The other three have sweet bean paste inside, and the tanuki (raccoon dog) one is the thickest. The smooth sweet bean paste shows the careful work put into it, with a rich flavor. The level of completion is incredible, making it suitable as a gift, and it's quite impressive.

Today, I went on a business trip to Kinshicho and on my way back, I bought some ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes) here. These ningyo-yaki are my favorite, the ones my uncle always gives me as a New Year's gift. Due to COVID, there were no New Year gatherings this year, so it's been a while since I had ningyo-yaki from Yamadaya. The packaging seems to be limited edition, with fabric covering the usual box. It looks cool and nice. Inside, there are three types of ningyo-yaki: temple bell, raccoon dog, and circle. They have a smooth sweet bean paste filling inside. The cake itself is not too fluffy, but moist, so it doesn't feel mushy in your mouth. That's why I love them. Some ningyo-yaki can be mushy like castella, but these are different. For me, when it comes to ningyo-yaki, it's always Yamadaya. A pack of 12 costs 1,600 yen. They taste great even when chilled in the fridge. The main store is also near Kinshicho station, but they sell them in the station building too, so I'd like to stop by again.

This is delicious! The dough is moist and goes well with the smooth red bean paste. It would be appreciated as a souvenir. Each piece is quite large. I bought the assorted pack with red bean paste for home use at ¥800, which is a good deal.

Whenever I go to Kinshicho, I always buy ningyoyaki to take home. Today, I purchased a value pack that was pre-packaged for home use. The maple leaf-shaped ningyoyaki without sweet bean paste has a fluffy texture and a rustic flavor with a hint of honey. The sweet bean paste here is juicy and moist, making it delicious. I always alternate between eating the ones with sweet bean paste and without. There was a tanuki-shaped one in the sweet bean paste ones. The coin tray is also cute!

I didn't have much affection for ningyoyaki (Japanese doll-shaped cake) before, but after trying the one from the Yamada family, I was shocked. Ningyoyaki is delicious! It wasn't until this age that I finally understood the deliciousness of ningyoyaki. The dough is delicious, and the not overly sweet red bean paste inside is also very tasty. It has become my number one ningyoyaki. Cute and delicious. The best. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I visited. I purchased a set of 8 an-filled pastries, which I think is a better deal than buying them individually. Although there was only one tanuki shape, the other shapes were equally delicious. The smooth red bean paste filling is very tasty!

Located a 2-minute walk from Kinshicho Station, "Ningyo-yaki Yamadaya Honten" is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop established in 1949, boasting over 70 years of history. I visited on a Saturday just before 11 am and there was no wait. I purchased a Tanuki-shaped manju for 150 yen. While the appearance is not exactly cute, it has a slightly eerie look to it. However, the taste was delightful, with a fluffy honey-infused skin and a subtly sweet, elegant red bean paste filling. It reminded me of a refined maple leaf-shaped manju. I enjoyed it until the last bite.

When I entered the shop, I saw packages wrapped in bags labeled for home use, separate from the boxed items. Since it was for home use, I decided to purchase those. The pastry had a moist and thick texture. Inside was a sweet red bean paste filling, which had a strong sweetness to it. The pastry itself also had a hint of sweetness, so personally, I thought a little less sweetness would be better. I prefer chunky red bean paste, so in that sense, it may not have been to my liking. For those who prefer a sweeter taste with smooth red bean paste, this dorayaki might be recommended.

This is a shop that sells ningyo-yaki (small cake filled with sweet bean paste). It is often given as a souvenir and I also buy it as a gift for others. It's convenient. They have options with sweet bean paste inside and without (maple leaf shape), but my favorite is without. It's subtly sweet and delicious. If eaten on the same day, the texture is good and fluffy. The ones with sweet bean paste inside are also delicious with plenty of filling, but you can truly savor the delicate dough with the ones without.

Near Kinshicho Station, there is a restaurant called "Yamadaya" that renovated its building a few years ago, losing some of its old charm. However, in the long run, it seems like the right decision. The default option is boxed manju, but I bought the casual bagged version this time. Although I was hoping for a special service item with a better shape, they didn't have it that day, which was disappointing. They offer manju with or without sweet red bean paste, and the one with the paste is definitely tastier. The bagged manju with sweet red bean paste was delicious, with a rustic yet high-quality feel to the dough, thanks to the honey. The red bean paste was also delicious. This is my favorite manju shop in the area. It's great that historic shops like this one are still around. It was so delicious! I will definitely come back to buy more. Thank you, Yamadaya, you're the best!

I bought some ningyoyaki (Japanese cake filled with sweet red bean paste) for a snack from a shop I found. There were four varieties, priced at 38 yen, 92 yen, 103 yen, and 130 yen each. I bought four pieces for a total of 363 yen. The momiji (maple leaf) flavor does not have red bean paste inside, while the other flavors (taiko drum, Mt. Mitsumine, tanuki) are filled with moist and rich red bean paste. They have a refined sweetness that pairs well with a strong tea. The tanuki flavor seems to have a unique charm to it (laughs). Next to the shop's sign, it said "Honjo Seven Wonders," which caught my interest. I looked it up later and found out that I had heard of "Oitekebori" and "Kiezu Andon," but the others were new to me. Interesting. Having these kinds of things in the city adds a nice touch.

I visited a famous ningyoyaki shop that was featured in Ozmagazine. It was right next to a renowned curry shop in Bangladesh, so I decided to stop by. Honestly, ningyoyaki is just ningyoyaki, tasty but nothing extraordinary. I bought a bag of individually packed ningyoyaki, including one shaped like a raccoon. It was delicious! It seems like a good souvenir from Tokyo.

This is a shop selling ningyoyaki located just south of JR Kinshicho Station on the Sobu Line, right across the intersection. They offer four different types of ningyoyaki, including ones without red bean paste. I received some as souvenirs, some individually wrapped and some not. The staff were very polite. The shop is known to be a favorite of the author Miyuki Miyabe. The ningyoyaki is a light and traditional snack, with delicious dough. It is very easy to eat and I wish I had bought more because it was so tasty. I enjoyed it very much.

This is a shop near Kinshicho Station that sells ningyo-yaki (Japanese doll-shaped cake). They have a variety of samples of both with and without sweet bean paste filling. I purchased the "Service Anko-filled" for 600 yen (tax included), which is normally sold for 778 yen. The cake had a moist and fluffy texture, paired perfectly with the smooth and gentle sweet bean paste. It was a simple yet delicious treat with a harmonious balance between the cake and filling.

Momiji: 38 yen including tax Mikasa: 92 yen including tax Taiko: 103 yen including tax Tanuki: 130 yen including tax Momiji does not have red bean paste inside, and the amount of red bean paste seems to vary in the order mentioned above: small, medium, large. It is true that the amount of red bean paste varies, but in terms of balance, Mikasa and Taiko seem similar. Tanuki has a satisfying amount to eat. Although it is described as having different amounts of red bean paste, I think the size (thickness) is different, so naturally the amount of red bean paste varies. It would be nice to have chunky red bean paste as well.

Today, I visited Ningyo-yaki Yamadaya Honten. Ningyo-yaki Yamadaya Honten is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located just a 2-minute walk from Kinshicho Station in Koto-ku, Tokyo. Established in 1951, the shop has a long history, starting with the founder, Mr. Yamada, who used to run a wholesale egg business shortly after the war. At that time, when sweets were considered a luxury due to their high prices, Ningyo-yaki, a popular sweet in the Asakusa area, caught the attention of Mr. Yamada. He decided to start making Ningyo-yaki himself, using his prideful eggs for the dough and top-quality sweet bean paste, which quickly gained popularity among the people striving for recovery. The generous amount of tsubu-an filling in the dough, made with the finest eggs, has earned Ningyo-yaki Yamadaya Honten a reputation for its delicious taste and reasonable price among the discerning locals in downtown Kinshicho, making it a local specialty. I decided to take out some of this traditional Ningyo-yaki this time. The Tanuki tsubu-an variety had a smooth and light dough with plenty of filling, while the Momiji variety allowed me to directly enjoy the deliciousness of the dough without any filling. Personally, I believe that Ningyo-yaki is one of the most delicious traditional Japanese sweets, and the Ningyo-yaki from Yamadaya Honten is no exception. The taste can vary depending on the ratio of sweet bean paste, so I recommend trying different varieties. Thank you for the delicious treat.

★I arrived around 12:30 in the afternoon on a weekend★There was no wait, it was completely empty from start to finish, haha★I tried a tanuki-shaped sweet with red bean paste inside★The taste was great, with a fluffy wheat skin that was not too dry, and the red bean paste had a nice aroma and was not too sweet overall★The staff were friendly and the price for one tanuki sweet was a little over 100 yen, which I think is reasonable★The shop was clean and the packaging of the products had the ingredients listed for allergy safety★I paid with my Suica card★It's only for takeout, so I probably won't go out of my way to visit again, but if I'm in the area I would definitely stop by to buy more★Overall, I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars!!! ★

I purchased these about 10 years ago and happened to pass by, so I stopped by again out of nostalgia. Yamada-ya's ningyo-yaki (sweet bean-filled cakes) come in a set of 19 for 1,480 yen, with both red bean paste and plain options. They do not contain any preservatives or additives, which I think is suitable for the present time. The shape is also interesting, and the moist cake with a balanced sweetness of the red bean paste is very good. However, at home, my family members are health-conscious and avoid foods high in sugar and carbohydrates, so I end up eating them all by myself. I usually choose a set with fewer pieces, but I still hesitate to buy them.

In the evening visit, there was still one simple package left, although the boxed ones were probably still available. The package contained 8 pieces, with rare raccoon and bell shapes, and many round manju cakes. The moist and fluffy dough had a strong sweetness, and the crispy crust revealed a smooth red bean paste inside. The amount of red bean paste was just right, and I think this would go really well with bitter green tea. This is a casual snack to reach for, a tea treat like that. I imagined taking this and visiting a friend's place, chatting over tea.
