I went in to buy a souvenir for my mother. I was puzzled as to why it was tanuki senbei, but it turned out to be regular senbei. I bought a bag with various flavors, including one with cheese inside. I thought maybe Doigen-san's would be better for a souvenir?

Souvenirs can be shipped into the store. It is a rice cracker specialty shop with a sign indicating that it is a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency. I bought rice crackers for gifts and some for myself. It's very convenient as a souvenir. Azabu-Juban has many traditional shops selling rice crackers and soba, which is very helpful. I plan to continue using this shop in the future. Thank you very much.

I purchased an assortment mix of cheese sandwiches, which is said to be the most popular item, and brought it home to enjoy. There were various flavors included, but each flavor was not overpowering and had a very refined taste. One unique flavor was bonito, and they were able to capture the essence of bonito's aroma very well.

This is my favorite shop! Whenever I come to Azabu-Juban, I always stop by. It's a long-established rice cracker shop, but I love their bite-sized rice crackers with cheese in them. Although there are rice crackers with cheese available in stores, the rice crackers here are not too salty, light, and have a fresh finish, which doesn't interfere with the taste of the cheese. The cheese also doesn't overpower the rice cracker's flavor. It's an exquisite balance. They have a wide variety of flavors like bonito, curry, nori, seaweed rolls, and egg. These flavors are not commonly seen around. When I share them at work, everyone is delighted, and I enjoy them as a snack by keeping them in my desk drawer. Truly a long-established shop! You can pay with cash or even use PayPay. I hope this shop continues to thrive for a long time.

A few minutes' walk from Mabashi-Jūban Station on the way back from HISAYA Chabou, without doing any research, I stopped by and bought small-sized rice crackers for 378 yen each x3: a mild soy sauce flavor with nori, a salt flavor with nori and shrimp, and a shrimp and cheese sandwich with 6 kinds of rice crackers from Tanukichi for 540 yen. They were all so delicious that I hurriedly took the remaining photos afterwards (laughs). Later, I checked their website and found out that Tanuki rice crackers have been making "high-quality rice crackers with dedication" for generations. Founded in 1928, shortly after its establishment, in 1932, they received the honor of being purchased by the Empress Dowager (Empress of Emperor Taisho and Empress Teimei) and in 1935, they became a "purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency." The shape of the tanuki is adorable, and the rice crackers are simple, free from any roughness, made with care and dedication to the ingredients. It was a delightful meal ❤︎.

After having some taiyaki, I felt like having something a little salty. I spotted some tanuki senbei nearby. There were various large tanuki figures sitting on the storefront. Their eyes were hollowed out like black holes, giving them a unique look. I went inside the store and bought a variety pack for taste testing. There was the "big tanuki" with a thick texture, the "small tanuki" with a soft and light texture, and the "old tanuki" with a firm texture. I decided to try the "old tanuki" to avoid any future regrets. When I tried it, it was pleasantly firm and crunchy, satisfying my craving for something salty after the sweetness of the taiyaki. My mouth felt refreshed, and I was ready to continue exploring the city. Thank you for the meal.

I have visited Asakusa many times, but I didn't notice this shop "Tanuki Senbei" before. As I was passing by, I saw a big tanuki-shaped senbei and got curious about what kind of shop it was. It turned out to be a senbei shop, and there were several other senbei shops in the area as well. Tanuki Senbei caught my interest with its name, so I was invited inside. - Tanuki's Tail: 216 yen (tax included) A senbei with the flavor of burdock, with a hint of spiciness from chili peppers. - Genki Tanuki: 216 yen (tax included) A salt and pepper seasoned salad senbei, perfect as a beer snack! - Tanuki Bono: 216 yen (tax included) A senbei seasoned with tomato basil, goes well with coffee or tea. This is a long-established senbei shop, but they have infused new flavors into their products while still maintaining tradition and meeting current needs. It was delicious, thank you for the meal!

I knew this shop was a long-established one, but it was my first time purchasing from them. When I checked the shop's website, it said, "Established in 1928, shortly after its founding in 1932, it was honored by Her Imperial Majesty the Empress (Empress Dowager of Emperor Taisho and Empress Teimei) and became a 'Purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency' in 1935." Purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency!! I didn't know that. I bought gifts but also bought something for myself. I recommend the Cheese Sand Tanukichi Cheese, Cheese Norimaki, Curry, Egg, Bonito, and Bonito Kombu Cheese Okaki for those who like cheese snacks. It's fun to enjoy various flavors. They are individually wrapped, making them easy to eat. The Cheese Sand Tanukichi Rich is Camembert. If you want to taste rich cheese, I recommend the Rich version. It's also good as a snack with alcohol. The Warabe Tanuki Yuzu, Sesame, Zarami, Matcha, and Nori come in five flavors. These tanuki-shaped senbei crackers are cute. You can enjoy various flavors, and the shape of the tanuki is adorable! I thought it would be nice to give to someone. The shop's wrapping paper was cute, so I took a rare photo. When I was looking at the shop's website, it said, "We also have a commitment to packaging for Tanuki Senbei." I was impressed that there was something that piqued my interest after all. In February of 1932, when the founder, Enzo, first presented the Empress with a product, he asked his acquaintance, the painter Tamaka Murakami, to draw a tanuki, and he added his own writing to the drawing and wrapped it. Since then, the logo of Tanuki Senbei has been this tanuki drawing. There was something about this tanuki that was intriguing and I couldn't look away. I slightly regret not buying from here in Azabu-Juban before. Now that I know, I will add it to my souvenir list for future visits. It is also recommended for gifts.

First Visit March 2023 (No.3458) Even though it's called a stamp rally, I can't just buy sweets and bread, so I decided to visit here to change things up. This shop was established in 1928 in Yanagibashi, Asakusa, and became the only "purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency" in 1935. The name of the shop carries the wish to be loved by many customers, but also conveys the desire to surpass others and become the best in Japan as a senbei shop. I purchased the following items that caught my eye at the store: "Chokuyaki Kogitsune" for 648 yen. There are four types of "Chokuyaki" available: "Ogitsune," "Kogitsune," "Kogitsune," and "Motoorogitsune," all shaped like foxes. This senbei has a light texture and a refined soy sauce flavor, making it quite delicious. It was a small treat, but with this taste, I would definitely consider buying it again. Thank you for the meal.

★I arrived around 2:00 pm on a weekend afternoon★ There was no wait, it was completely empty from start to finish, haha★ I tried the sesame senbei★ I had quite high expectations for the taste, but it was just like regular senbei in my opinion. It was good, but nothing special★ The staff was friendly★ I felt that the place was clean despite its old appearance★ The prices were average, nothing out of the ordinary★ They list the allergens in the ingredients, so I think it's safe for people with allergies★ I probably won't come back since it didn't leave a strong impression, so I rate it one out of five stars!!!

I really like the senbei (rice crackers) at Azabu-Juban. I used to buy them at Shibuya Tokyu and loved them as a snack. They come in curry, tamago (egg), katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), cheese, nori (seaweed), and kombu (kelp) flavors, and I never get tired of them. They are light and crispy with cheese sandwiched in between, and all the flavors are delicious. My favorite is the katsuobushi, which has a savory taste that goes well with drinks. The cheese has a strong aroma and flavor, but it doesn't overpower the rice cracker part. I often bring them as a snack to share at work.

A long-established rice cracker shop in Azabu-Juban, with over 90 years of history. It is also a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency. Just like the recommended shop by Emi @134, this is a must-visit for rice cracker lovers. The shop has a splendid interior, with a wide variety of rice crackers on display. I wish I had more time to carefully choose, but due to time constraints, I pre-selected the rice crackers I wanted to buy. These rice crackers were a big hit at home and at work. Just like Mamegen, a nearby shop specializing in rice crackers and bean snacks, this shop has a long history and offers traditional sweets as well as new flavors and innovations that suit the times. I plan to enjoy Tanuki Senbei's snacks (and Mamegen's snacks) while watching many movies at home during the New Year holidays. However, as I left the shop, a small problem occurred. The clasp on my coin purse, which I had been using for years, had loosened and spilled coins all over the street. It was quite embarrassing. But then, as I was walking, a stylishly dressed woman and a well-dressed elderly gentleman, possibly with his subordinate, stopped to help pick up the scattered coins. In the middle of Azabu-Juban, I felt the warmth and kindness of people, and it truly touched my heart. I am so grateful. (This incident prompted me to buy a new wallet. Haha)

I received a delicious pudding at Tennoya and on my way back, I happened to see a large tanuki figurine in front of a store in Azabu-Juban shopping street. The store was named Tanuki Senbei Nan, and I was intrigued to go in. They had a wide variety of senbei, but I decided to buy their specialty, the soft-textured "Oodanuki" (5 pieces for 540 yen). When I tried it at home as a snack, the sign said it was soft, but it actually had a crunchy texture like regular senbei. It tasted like a normal soy sauce senbei. Maybe it's because it's called Oodanuki? But the tanuki shape was cute, so I'll let it slide. (laughs) Thank you for the meal.

When I go to Tokyo, I usually stop by this place. Even though the state of emergency has been lifted, Azabu-Juban was still not very crowded. I quickly went into the shop and noticed that the packaging had changed. It's now in a ziplock bag... but it's so delicious that once I open it, I know I'll end up eating it all in one go. I love Goma Tanuki the most. The soy sauce isn't too sweet, with a subtle aroma. The black sesame scent is really nice. When mixed together, it creates a really pleasant aroma. It's addictive. And before I knew it, I had finished it all in the hotel! It might be a good idea to have a ziplock for souvenirs too, as not everyone finishes it in one go.

In Asakusa, there are many delicious rice cracker shops, and my favorites are Tanuki Senbei and Mamegen. Today, Mamegen was closed, but Tanuki Senbei was open even during the pandemic. I bought a set for comparison. They had a variety of specialty rice crackers like Isojiman and Otanuki, which were all very delicious. They were crispy and tasty, and cooked to perfection. The rice crackers were really delicious.

I used to live in this area a long time ago... I was very poor and living a miserable life, struggling to get by with day labor jobs and barely having enough to eat. Azabu-Juban is a neighborhood where the affluent should live! I think that now, at least (^^;) So why was I living in Azabu-Juban? It was because I was sharing a room with multiple people. Therefore, the rent was not that high, but everything else was tough. Eating out, in particular, was not cost-effective, so I mostly cooked for myself. That's why I used to go to Daiei at night to hunt for discounted items. I didn't have the funds to move, so I had no choice but to live in Azabu-Juban... but I would pass by Eikichi Yazawa on my way back from shopping, which is an experience you wouldn't have in a residential neighborhood. If it was Kageki Shimoda, I would pass by him every day. Azabu-Juban is full of such charm (← Really?) Over 10 years have passed since then, and now I can finally afford to eat out occasionally. Most importantly, I can't easily visit once I leave Tokyo. With that in mind, I decided to set up a "Azabu-Juban Rediscovery Week"! I will patrol all the places, both the ones that have changed and the ones that remain the same. So, I went straight to the long-established "Tanuki Senbei"! Established in Asakusa Yanagi-bashi in the early Showa era, this is a truly ancient establishment. It moved to Azabu-Juban in Showa 30 and has been maintaining its noren ever since. As the name suggests, their main product is senbei shaped like tanuki. They have a very cute appearance, but their actual quality is evidenced by being designated as "Imperial Household Agency Purveyor". I take my hat off to their splendid service that reflects that achievement. This meticulous customer service truly embodies the spirit of Azabu-Juban, which is why they have been loved for so long. Of course, the senbei does not disappoint, so be sure to try it out.

During a stroll in Azabu-Juban after lunch, I passed by the main store of "Naniwa-ya" where they sell natural taiyaki. Unfortunately, there was quite a long wait for the natural taiyaki, so I decided to check out "Tanuki Senbei" instead. This store, established in 1928, is a long-standing senbei shop that was once appointed by the Imperial Household Agency. Inside the store, there were various senbei with different flavors and sizes displayed, and they even offered samples for tasting. It was fun to choose from the wide selection available. The senbei from this shop, with names like "Otanuki," "Kotanuki," and "Furunuki," are shaped like tanuki (raccoon dogs) and have a charming appearance. Today, I purchased small packs of "Zarame Tanuki" (black pepper flavor), "Genki Tanuki" (garlic flavor), "Tenma Tanuki" (ginger flavor), and "Aonori Tanuki" (seaweed flavor) for 150 yen each. They had a light texture but were well-seasoned and tasted good. The name "tanuki" in the shop's name serves as a reminder to not be deceived by customers and also carries the meaning of "outdoing others." A clever touch!

Located in Asakusa, Tanuki is a long-established rice cracker shop founded in 1928, designated as a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency. The name "Tanuki" comes from the idea of "surpassing others in deliciousness," with many of their products shaped like tanuki (raccoon dogs). A prominent tanuki statue greets customers outside the shop, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The variety of rice crackers available ranges from traditional hard-baked ones to modern flavors. During my last visit in July 2014, I purchased the Warabe Tanuki and the Honorable Directly-Baked Tanuki (5 pieces). On my recent visit, I bought the following items: - Honorable Directly-Baked Tanuki (5 pieces, 800 yen): These shop-exclusive rice crackers are baked on-site by the owner. Made with domestically-produced rice and soy sauce supplied to the Imperial Household, they come in four levels of hardness - Honorable, Old, Big, and Small Tanuki. The tanuki-shaped crackers have a crispy texture and a savory soy sauce flavor. They can last for about 3 months. - Tanuki Senbei with Spicy Fried Chili (90g, 350 yen): Small sweet and spicy fried chili senbei with a lingering taste. They can last for about 2 months. - Cheese Sandwich Tanukikichi MIX (15 pieces, 500 yen): A variety pack of bite-sized rice crackers filled with cheese. Each piece is individually wrapped, making it convenient for snacking. The bag includes different flavors such as cheese, egg, curry, and seaweed. While delicious, the individually wrapped packaging makes them slightly more expensive. They can last for about 2 months. - Kaki no Tane by Kaki (65g, 300 yen): Large-sized kaki no tane rice crackers. They can last for about 3 months. I received a discount coupon, so I will definitely be returning for more delicious treats at Tanuki.

The soy sauce has a deep flavor and a light texture. I could taste the richness and depth of flavor, similar to dried shiitake mushrooms. It is enjoyable to eat without getting tired of it.
