I stopped by a new delicious cake shop recommended by a friend on my way back after finishing my errands around 2 pm. The shop is located in a residential area a little away from Inari-cho Station, so it's hard to find if you don't know about it! The display case in the shop was filled with colorful cakes, but some were already sold out as it was past noon... I guess it's best to come in the morning! They had a wide variety of cakes, including classics, seasonal items, and new creations, so I had a hard time deciding which ones to choose... Since it would take me a while to get home, I decided to avoid cakes that might get messy (;_;) I ended up buying some tarts to try. Once I got home, I couldn't wait and tried them right away. The texture and sweetness were well-balanced and the cakes were of high quality, with an exquisite balance of flavors. The tart crust was also delicious, so I'm sure their baked goods are also top-notch! *I think their ratings will continue to rise in the future. - Purchased: Ricotta e Pelle 690 yen (tax included) Tarte Citron 620 yen (tax included) Cherry Tart - Forgot... - Taste: Ricotta e Pelle: Smooth ricotta cheese and cream mousse on the outside, with pear compote and cream as accents on the inside. The overall sweetness is mild, highlighting the pear, and the balance of textures in each layer is exquisite and delicious. The bottom and top layers have plenty of nutty cookie crust. Tarte Citron: *The cream on top collapsed (;_;) The top layer has fluffy meringue cream with a lemon flavor, while the lemon cream in the middle has a strong acidity. The balance of acidity, sweetness, and texture in each layer is exquisite and delicious. Cherry Tart: It's delicious with plenty of cherries, and the tart crust is crispy and has a good texture. - Evaluation: The cakes are well-crafted with a high level of completion and an exquisite balance of flavors. The tart crust was also delicious, so I believe their baked goods are also top-notch. Considering the quality of the cakes, the cost-performance ratio seems good. I also noticed a notice saying they will be exhibiting at Isetan, so I think their ratings will continue to rise. A shop to keep an eye on. Personal shop support. Overall rating +0.2

I received a peach tart that is in season. My first impression was that it was a simple fruit tart, but as I tasted it, I started to think that there might be more to it than meets the eye. It tastes quite sweet, but it is light and easy to eat. I'm not sure what exactly is in it, but even though it looks simple, I think there are many delicious flavors hidden inside.

Pina Colada Sabarán is a refreshing and not too sweet cake with a moist sponge that soaks up the flavors well. This shop has a variety of cakes to choose from, so it's always hard to decide. It's worth making the trip to this highly recommended shop, as there are no bad choices here.

I went to CONFECT-CONCEPT to earn a medal at the Sweets Hyakumeiten. Although it is a relatively new shop that opened in April 2021, it has already become a well-reviewed place. The location is not very noticeable in a residential area, so the number of reviews is still low, and therefore the Tabelog score is not very high, but the reviews are generally positive. These kinds of shops are definitely worth a visit. I arrived at the shop around dinner time. There was no line, so I was able to enter smoothly. I was worried that there would be no cakes left as the closing time was approaching, but there were a decent number of cakes left in the showcase, which was a relief. However, I was a little shocked to find out that the popular shortcake from previous reviews was sold out. The baked tart with seasonal fruits looked delicious with its glossy appearance, but I wanted to try a fresh cake, so I decided to pass on the tart this time. The items I purchased were: Savarin Pina Colada (700 yen) and Peach and Rose Verrine (680 yen). Since there was no eat-in option, I enjoyed them at home. The Savarin Pina Colada was quite delicious. The rum flavor was strong, but the refreshing acidity of the pineapple made it lighter than a regular Savarin. Adding pineapple compote to prevent it from being too light and increasing the sweetness was a nice touch, and I liked the hint of lime fragrance. However, the thick lime peel cuts made it a bit chewy in the mouth, which was a bit disappointing. I think it would have been better if the lime peel was cut into thinner slices. The Peach Verrine was also good. I was a bit worried because of the rose, but the rose scent was not too strong, and the peach and raspberry flavors were prominent. The mousse at the bottom was a bit weak, but if you enjoy the peach and raspberry, it's still good. The amount of content was a bit small for the size of the glass, making it look a bit lonely, which was a downside. It was a strange choice to end up buying two glass desserts, but both of them tasted good, so it was okay in the end. It's a bit troublesome that it's in a place I don't often go to, but there were many delicious cakes and sweets, so I want to make an effort to visit again.

Located about 100 meters from Asakusa Street on the left side of Sensoji Bridge Street, in the area known as Moto Asakusa Nitchome, you will find "CONFECT-CONCEPT". This hidden gem is not frequented by tourists, but it offers a delightful selection of colorful and beautiful cakes in a deep blue showcase. I tried their Chocolate and Banana Mousse and Choux Parfait Mang. The Chocolate and Banana Mousse had a strong banana flavor with layers of sautéed bananas beneath a rich chocolate cream, allowing me to fully enjoy the combination of chocolate and banana. The Choux Parfait Mang was a mango and coconut cream-filled choux pastry covered with caramel and bergamot cream. The intense mango flavor in the cream was a delightful surprise, and the thin layer of cookie dough on the choux pastry added a unique touch. The showcase also featured other mousse and tart options such as Griotte Cherry and Almond, Blackcurrant Mousse with Marshmallow, Vanilla and Strawberry, Raspberry and Lime Tart, Rhubarb and Fromage Blanc Tart, and Passion Mango Tart. Each cake showed creativity and attention to detail, with unique twists like the Basque custard cream-filled Frangipane and the banana cream-topped Banana Muffin. They also offer a variety of croissant pastries and baked goods. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking for delicious and innovative desserts.

All the sweets were amazing! Especially the baked goods were excellent... the fragrant cookies, almond toffee, and rich cocoa combinations were outstanding. The fresh and vibrant sweetness of the berry desserts was also incredibly delicious. I would love to try more varieties in the future.

The owner of this patisserie is said to be from the beloved Tant Marie, which unfortunately closed in February 2021. I saw their summer-like eclair on Instagram and wanted to try it, so I made a reservation the day before and visited. I tried the Eclair Coco & Ananas Raspberry, Lime Tart, Seasonal Apple and Strawberry Tart, Seasonal Tart, Apricot Viennese Lemon Vanilla, and Orangette Financier. The eclair had coconut, pineapple, and passion fruit in it. The coconut was in the chantilly and topping choux pastry. The choux pastry had a crunchy texture, perhaps due to powdered sugar on the surface or cookie dough on top before baking. It was a delicious eclair with a sweet and sour, refreshing taste. The patisserie also had a great selection of baked goods, and I would love to visit again when the seasons change. (Rating: 3.51 out of 5 as of July 2023)

In Ueno, there was a meeting before the meeting, so I had some time to spare and searched for a visit. Unlike the crowded festival, it was surprisingly empty and there were plenty of cakes. - Banana Muffin (610 yen): The banana shanty is very delicious with a rich flavor. The banana chips have a natural taste that is not too sweet, and they go well with the coconut choux. The base banana muffin has a good caramelized flavor and is very moist and delicious. I might prefer it without raisins. - Griotte Cherry and Almond (700 yen): A multi-layered structure with plenty of griotte cherry compote. Breaking it down and eating the kirsch-flavored bavarois and almond-flavored mousse separately is delicious, and when eaten all together vertically, it has a surprisingly deep and impressive taste. The sponge cake layer in between is a light almond-flavored one that absorbs the flavor of the compote, resulting in an abnormally delicious taste. - Soldam Shortcake (670 yen): Strawberries seem to be in short supply, so it became a Soldam shortcake. The creme Chantilly has a rich milk fat flavor and is very delicious. The genoise has a strong egg flavor but a light texture, making it very delicious. Soldam is compoted, almost without any assertion, but the base is too delicious, so it may have been decided as a background decoration. I could eat as much as I wanted, and I want to eat a whole one. - Seasonal Tart of Apricot (650 yen): The crust is delicious. The apricots, with a strong acidity, are plentiful. It looks simple, but the deliciousness of the apricots is concentrated and very delicious. Overall impression: Everything I ate was delicious. These cakes are the opposite of the typical safe, light, and not too sweet cakes. They layer multiple techniques to bring out the flavor of the ingredients, creating a lasting impression until the end. Since the cakes I bought this time were all fruit-based, I would like to try a different direction of cakes next time.

I visited around 5pm on Sunday and there were only 4 types of cakes left. It is a popular shop that even has an outlet in a department store, so I recommend going early. The cake made with seasonal fruits was delicious. The tart crust was thin and just to my liking.

I visited this bakery near my workplace that I had been curious about. They have a wide variety of baked goods and sweets. I purchased a strawberry and pistachio Charlotte for 680 yen, a shortcake for 670 yen, a rhubarb and fromage blanc tart for 640 yen, and a seasonal tart (strawberry and pistachio) for 650 yen. The shortcake had a fluffy sponge with a strong egg flavor, and the cream was smooth, not too sweet, and delicious. However, the pistachio in the Charlotte and tart didn't have much flavor, so I probably won't be buying them again. The rhubarb and fromage blanc tart was tasty with the tangy rhubarb as a nice accent. Overall, the quality of the cakes varied, so I'm not sure if I would go back.

Asakusa to Ueno is said to be a pastry wasteland, but in my personal opinion, that's not the case (maybe because I'm aware of Kuramae). There are a couple of places lined up together! I decided to visit this place because it stands out in the reviews. Oh, it's the place on the left side of the bridge on the street I pass by every morning! When it's not open, there are no signs, so I had no idea. This time, I did some research beforehand and was aiming for a certain traditional French item, but I got distracted by the look of other pastries! That's why I don't like doing research before coming here. Lemon Tart: This is the taste of a genuine French pastry. It's rich and sweet, with a refreshing balance of lemony sourness and a fluffy meringue texture! Raspberry and Lime Tart: A chocolate cake on a wheat-scented tart. The classic combination of raspberry and a hint of lime freshness. Converstation: I've never heard of this before, but it seems to be a traditional pastry dating back to the 18th century. It's a pie with hazelnut cream, but does it also have a fruity element? Ricotta e Belle: Cheesecake meets pear. Is this from Italy or a region close to the border? The juicy pear enhances the richness of the cheese, creating a synergistic effect. It's like soba noodles with chili oil (revealing my usual food preferences here). Crafty Griotte: Crafty! Another traditional French pastry. This was a new item for me, and I first encountered it at SUSUCRE in Shimoma this month. It's a cake that tastes like pudding or custard cream, with Griotte cherries in a concentrated paste form in this case. This flavor combination is a staple in genuine French patisseries. Remember it well. Mirliton: Another rare item. I heard that this is no longer commonly found in France, but it seems to be gaining popularity in Japan, even appearing in convenience stores. It's a simple pastry with almond filling in a pie crust. This Mirliton is fruity with apricot, an original creation by the chef. Even the now common Crème Chiboust was a recipe that Japanese chefs recreated from a lost recipe in France. It's been my go-to souvenir for nearly 30 years, as mentioned in the trivia from Boul'Mich. Only in Japan, right? Anyway, even though my plans got derailed by being lured by the appearance of the pastries, I still enjoyed trying out these traditional items. I'll have to visit again to try the original item I initially aimed for!

Located near Inaricho Station on the Ginza Line, there is a small corner of Seikyo-ji Temple where the grave of Katsushika Hokusai can be found. The tombstone bears one of his aliases, "Gakyorojin Manji," and it is a touching moment to visit the grave of the familiar ukiyo-e artist. However, that feeling quickly fades away when entering the sweets shop just across the temple. The beautifully displayed colorful cakes catch the eye, each tempting in its own way. With a limited capacity for indulging, I decided to purchase a rhubarb tart and a delicate raspberry-flavored cake. The rhubarb tart was a delightful combination of tartness from the rhubarb compote and cream, blending perfectly with the cheese in the tart crust. The raspberry-flavored cake, with layers of violet and lychee mousse, had a distinct raspberry taste without being too heavy. There are more treats I want to try, so I plan to visit again after paying my respects to Hokusai.

Chose home macarons as a return gift, and selected home macarons for myself. They came in a small box with 3 pieces, and even though they were from a small shop, they were well received. Croissants were unfortunately sold out, so I had to settle for anko butter koppe bread.

The cake was a bit too sweet. It's not just sweet, but overly sweet, so it wasn't a pleasant level of sweetness. The sweetness of the fraisier in particular was bothersome. On top of already being sweet, it had a sugar glaze which honestly made it not recommendable. The strawberry and pistachio charlotte was sweet, but the pistachio added a nice richness to it and was delicious. The freshly baked financiers were very tasty, so I would like to buy them again.

I visited CONFECT-CONCEPT on February 17, 2023 as part of my Tokyo sweets trip! This popular patisserie offers a variety of colorful wagashi, classical French traditional pastries, tarts, American cookies, and more. The chic exterior of the shop made it hard to believe it was a sweets shop, and I almost passed by it at first. The owner and chef, Atsushi Endo, started his career as a patissier at a hotel in Nagoya before working in the pastry department of the newly opened Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Roppongi. He then went to France to train at places like Gerard Mulot and De Gateau et Du Pain for 3 years. After returning to Japan, he worked as the pastry chef at Tant Marie before opening his own shop in April 2021. I tried the Strawberry and Pistachio Charlotte, which featured a pastel green color with a striking contrast of red strawberries. The pistachio mousse, flavored with kirsch, was layered with strawberry compote and rich pistachio cream. The delicate mousse melted in the mouth, with a rich sweetness and depth of pistachio flavor. The different melting speeds of each component were carefully calculated in the final product. I also tried the Mousse au Fromage & Pamplemousse, which combined a light and airy cheese mousse, a rich cream cheese, and a fragrant cheese sable. The slight bitterness of the grapefruit tied everything together beautifully. The attention to detail and perfect execution of each dessert was truly impressive.

First visit in January 2023☆ Located in Inaricho, Taito-ku, this patisserie is run by Chef Tant Marie, known for their delicious cheesecake. It's close to the new Okachimachi station on the TX line. They only offer takeout, no seating available. They also sell baked goods. I got the Shortcake, Flan, and Cassata Yuzu for takeout. The Shortcake was my favorite, incredibly delicious! The genoise cake had a perfect texture, light and fluffy cream that wasn't too sweet. A harmonious Shortcake with a sense of unity. I definitely want to go back for more♡ The Flan was a rich type, similar to pudding. The bottom was a tart crust. Custard lovers would adore the rich, eggy texture. The tart crust had a great buttery flavor. This one was also on the sweeter side. The Cassata Yuzu is an Italian dessert Cassata with a twist using ricotta cheese and yuzu flavor. It had a cute round shape, light and fluffy with a hint of yuzu fragrance. Prices range around 700 yen. The packaging was secure and they accept cashless payments. It's a popular spot, so make sure to go early to avoid items selling out. I definitely want to come back again☆ Thank you for the delicious treats~

The nearest station is Inaricho Station, but Ueno, Asakusa, and Okachimachi are also within walking distance. I visited this shop again because I had a delicious peach tart here last summer and I was curious about their winter tart. I am impressed by the fact that they display cakes, tarts, baked goods, croissants, and bread (Viennoiserie) every day, even though it is a small shop. It was late January, but they still had Galette des Rois! I was so happy. Last year, I had a delicious Galette des Rois from Frederic Cassel, and I was determined to come back this year, but I forgot to buy it. I purchased a seasonal tart (apple) for 580 yen, Galette des Rois for 450 yen, and a pain au chocolat for 350 yen (tax included). They all had a strong impression of honest flavors rather than something flashy.

I visited this place after hearing good reviews from people in the area who said it can get crowded. It was in the evening so some items were sold out. I ordered the Apricot and Darjeeling mousse for 600 yen. They told me it was half frozen and to wait about 30 minutes before eating. After 30 minutes, it was still slightly frozen and had a crunchy texture. I was told it was fine to carry around, but it came with an ice pack and it was January, so 30 minutes wasn't enough. However, the taste was delicious and I ended up eating it before it fully thawed. The apricot sauce was slightly sour and fruity, and the Darjeeling flavor in the mousse was just right, not too strong. The mousse was crunchy, but I'm sure it would be fluffy when fully thawed. Nevertheless, the crunchy texture was also delicious. The presentation was beautiful, the portion size was decent, the taste was great, and the price was reasonable. I thought it was a very good patisserie and would definitely go back if I'm in the area again.

I had Pistachio Mousse at a Christmas party. It cost 4700 yen for a 15-centimeter size. The Pistachio mousse had a rich texture and was accented with berries and lemon peel. While the smooth and rich Pistachio flavor was delicious, I found it a bit difficult to keep eating without getting tired of it. It was a bit too sweet for my liking. I think I prefer fruit or shortcake (Gâteau Frais) type of cakes. I would like to try their Gâteau next time.

Rich and sweet Mont Blanc. The richness is delicious, but if it were a bit smaller, I might still be satisfied. I like the intensity of the Mont Blanc paste, so I would be happy with less whipped cream and more Mont Blanc paste. I also like that it's not made with meringue!
