Established in 1937, Senso Monaka Honpo is a shop specializing in traditional handmade monaka treats. When I visit Otsuka Station, I always buy some as souvenirs. The "An Butter" introduced on the TV show "Matsuko no Shiranai Sekai" costs 330 yen. It is a monaka filled with plenty of sweet bean paste and Calpis butter, freshly baked at the store. It doesn't last long, so you need to eat it the same day. When you heat it in the microwave for 10 seconds at 500W or in a toaster for 20 seconds, the melted butter is incredibly delicious and addictive. If you're in the Sugamo/Otsuka area, be sure to visit! Thank you for the delicious treat!

I went to buy dorayaki skins and ended up buying three different mini dorayaki as well. I wanted to try the red bean butter dorayaki too, but I had to give up this time due to time constraints. The elderly staff members were warm and friendly, leaving a good impression.

I visited the shop at 4:00 PM on a weekday and there were no other customers in line, so I was able to take my time and make my purchase. I was only planning to buy a dorayaki, but I was torn between the ogura bean paste and the red bean paste fillings. The staff kindly offered me cold barley tea while I was deciding, which was a nice gesture. They even gave me an extra piece of dorayaki skin for free. In the end, I bought the red bean paste dorayaki for my family and the red bean butter dorayaki for myself. The red bean butter dorayaki had a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness, while the red bean paste dorayaki was packed full of delicious red bean paste. The red bean butter dorayaki was smooth and creamy at room temperature, just as described, but I think it would also be delicious warmed up or chilled. The shop is conveniently located near the station, had seating for a few people, and the staff's service, the atmosphere, and the taste of the dorayaki were all excellent, so I give it 5 stars.

[Date] Visited with 2 people on a weekday at 2:00 PM. [Reservation] Not required. Purchased without waiting. [Location] Access is very good, about a 3-minute walk from Otsuka Station. [Interior] Takeout only. There are some chairs for light eating, but it seems to be mainly for takeout. [Order] We couldn't eat the freshly baked an butter, so we had the packaged one instead. I wanted to taste the butter, so I ate it without heating it up. The balance between the saltiness of the butter and the sweetness of the red bean paste was wonderful. The skin was quite dry, and at first, I thought "hmm?" when I ate it, but overall, it wasn't that big of a deal because the butter was moist. Thank you for the meal! [Service] The staff were quick and friendly. [Final thoughts] The saltiness of the butter was a nice accent. It's delicious even when cold!

On July 21st of the 5th year of Reiwa, I had onigiri for the first time at "bongo" and was satisfied, so all that's left is to return home. But let's buy something that catches my eye! Next to the sushi restaurant where I had lunch the other day is a famous traditional Japanese confectionery shop. Established in 1937, this long-established store offers not only their signature manju, but also dorayaki, kintsuba, daifuku, and more. I have tried their famous gourd-shaped manju before, but this time I am interested in their other specialty, the dorayaki skin. A bit embarrassed, I purchase a pack of 6 pieces for ¥220. As I open the food pack, a sweet aroma fills the air. The film covering the lid is a thoughtful touch for such an affordable product. The official name is "Japanese-style pancake," so I drizzle some maple syrup over it and take a bite. It's a bit too sweet, but that's to be expected from dorayaki skin. It's recommended to try it with ham or other variations, but I end up eating the rest as it is. My wife enjoyed customizing hers to her liking.

I visited the Otsuka branch of "Sennari Monaka Honpo" in Otsuka. The store is located about a 1-minute walk from the south exit of JR Otsuka Station. "Sennari Monaka Honpo" is a traditional Monaka specialty store founded in 1937 that focuses on handmade products. In addition to the Otsuka branch, there is also a Sugamo branch. This was my first visit. I visited after watching the store being introduced on a Saturday afternoon TV show at the end of June. On that day, I purchased two pieces of Kin-tsuba (160 yen each including tax) and enjoyed them at home. They were simple and delicious with a moderate sweetness of grain paste. When I visited the store after 3 pm, hoping to buy the "Dorayaki," "An Butter," and "Dorayaki skin pancake" that were featured on TV, they were already sold out. Only Monaka and Kin-tsuba were available at that time, with Kin-tsuba also running low. Next time, I will visit in the morning to purchase items like "Dorayaki." Thank you for the meal.

I have passed by the "Original Senari Monaka Honpo" near Otsuka Station in Toshima Ward a few times, but this was my first time buying something. When I was indecisive about what to get in front of the store, they offered me a sample of freshly baked dorayaki skin. It was my first time trying it, and it was delicious with the right amount of sweetness and a fluffy texture. I ended up purchasing the An Butter Dorayaki for 350 yen, Dorayaki Ogura for 210 yen, and the Dorayaki Skin (Japanese-style pancake) for 220 yen. When I got home, I first tried the Ogura dorayaki, which was not too sweet and had a generous amount of red bean paste, with a hint of bitterness that made it tasty. After dinner, I had the An Butter Dorayaki, which was delicious with the addition of butter. I also received a few extra pieces of dorayaki skin as a service in the bag. When slightly warmed and spread with butter, the Dorayaki Skin also tasted like a Japanese-style pancake. It made me crave for some fruits and whipped cream. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived at the shop around 11:50 on the weekend. It's a Japanese sweets shop located a little off from Otsuka Station. I was intrigued by the sign for "An Butter Dorayaki" that caught Matsumoto's attention in the Sekai Miyaku program, so I decided to stop by. Since I had just eaten lunch, the regular An Butter Dorayaki for 350 yen seemed a bit heavy, so I opted for the Mini Dorayaki for 130 yen. Even though it's mini, it's not that small. It was delicious. I was also curious about the Dorayaki with only the skin, so maybe I should have bought that one instead?

On the way back from my walk, I found this place on my way to Otsuka Station after finishing lunch. I was torn between getting a monaka or a dorayaki, but ended up choosing my favorite dorayaki. I got one with red bean paste and one with sweet red bean paste, and enjoyed them at home. They were delicious.

I went there on Saturday around 10 o'clock. It was raining, so there were hardly any customers at that time. It's just a short walk from JR Otsuka Station. I was undecided on what to buy, but then they offered freshly baked pancake skins and tea as a service! Purchases: - Senari Monaka (5 types) - Mini Dorayaki (2 types) - An butter Dorayaki

Every time I come to Otsuka, I always have my favorite. Today, I ordered the usual "anko butter dorayaki" and a monaka. I waited at the table in front of the store for 5 minutes. The freshly baked dorayaki with thick butter is so delicious. When you take a bite, it feels almost sinful. I sprinkled Himalayan salt and black pepper on top for a different flavor. It's so tasty!! No matter how many times I eat it, I always want to eat it again. I will definitely come back to eat it again~(o^^o)

Next to the tracks where the Toden tram runs in Otsuka, there is a colorful senbei shop. A sign saying "Your concept of senbei will change" is also displayed. I bought two pieces of crispy senbei (210 yen) and two pieces of gourd-shaped senbei (110 yen), which come with red bean paste and plum fillings. The crispy senbei comes with a small container of red bean paste and a wooden spoon for you to assemble yourself. The lady at the shop told me that the red bean paste can last for 5 days, but to keep it in the fridge. According to the attached red leaflet, the senbei skin is made from 100% mochi rice using a back-roasting method, which enhances its fragrance twofold. The red bean paste is additive-free. When you bite into it, the truly fragrant aroma spreads. The crispy texture, fragrance, and the deliciousness of the straightforward red bean paste come together harmoniously. The gourd-shaped senbei, with its matcha green color and other variations, is visually appealing. The plum filling has a taste similar to sweet and slightly sour miso paste. There were small chairs and tables outside the shop, where I saw parents and children enjoying their senbei together.

There is a traditional Japanese sweets shop near Otsuka Station. Although it is tucked away in an alley, the shop exudes a unique aura! While their signature item seems to be the "sakusaku" (crispy) senbei, they also offer a variety of dorayaki and seasonal sakuramochi, giving it more of a traditional Japanese sweets shop vibe rather than just a senbei shop. I purchased the "Sakusaku Senbei" for ¥210 and the An Butter Dorayaki for ¥330. The senbei has separate layers for the skin and filling, allowing you to sandwich them yourself. Thanks to this, the skin is crispy and crunchy, with a delightful aroma! The filling is also rich with the flavor of red beans. It is truly delicious and changes the concept of senbei! The An Butter Dorayaki has a nice balance of sweet and salty, with a noticeable buttery flavor. The skin of the dorayaki is moist and fluffy, different from other shops! The fact that they even sell just the skin of the dorayaki shows their confidence in their products. It would make a great gift that is sure to be appreciated!

I had a delicious dorayaki. The skin was thick and fluffy, sweet and tasty! The red bean paste inside was chunky and plentiful! There are various flavor variations available. No additives or preservatives, with a shelf life of 1 day. I enjoyed it very much! ^_^

I tried An Butter Dorayaki for the first time and it was delicious! There were chairs outside the shop where you could enjoy freshly made dorayaki. The tea they served was also delicious. The atmosphere of the shop and the staff were great, it was a wonderful experience! They also sold just the skin of the dorayaki as a set called "Japanese-style pancake", which I want to try next time I visit. I went on a weekday afternoon and there was no line, but it seemed like some items were already sold out!

Tsune Naru Monaka Honpo @ Otsuka Monaka Honpo, but they are also famous for their dorayaki, especially the "An Butter Dorayaki" which has been featured in the media. If you microwave it for about 10 seconds, the sweet and salty flavor is irresistible! And your hands get sticky from the overflowing butter haha. The red bean paste is delicious too, but the fluffy skin with a hint of toasted aroma is something I've never had before. They sell just the delicious skin as a Japanese-style pancake, so it's fun to buy it and try different toppings at home. I tried using white bean paste so it doesn't get covered by the red bean paste.

A long-established store that operates diligently at the edge of Sanmall Otsuka. While their signboard says "Monaka," their specialty now seems to be Dorayaki! They bake the skin on the spot and serve it to customers with tea as a special treat! A rare and generous service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, I tried the "Small Dorayaki Ogura." It comes in a paper bag with a plastic bag at the register. As for the taste... It is carefully made, with the sweetness of the red bean paste being mild and delicious. Especially, the skin is moist and tasty. They also have a popular item called "Dorayaki Skin Pancake." I look forward to exploring their other offerings next time. Thank you for the meal!

On a holiday at 11:00, quietly tucked away on the outskirts of the shopping street. While peeking into the shop, I received a cold tea and freshly baked dorayaki skin as a service from the friendly shop assistant. The thoughtfulness made me happy! There were simple seats available, so I enjoyed an "an butter" dorayaki (330 yen) for eating in. The hot skin with a cool, thick layer of butter sprinkled with salt was just right. I would definitely like to stop by again!

Visit: Otsuka branch of the long-established Monaka shop in Sugamo, every Sunday at 11:30. The shop's specialty is the Senari Monaka, but they also have a wide variety of dorayaki. Recently, the dorayaki skin, which can be eaten like a pancake, has been recommended. The red bean butter dorayaki that can be eaten outside the shop was featured on a certain TV program. The dorayaki here is delicious starting with the skin, and on this day, I was lucky enough to eat it freshly baked, which paired well with the saltiness of the butter. Red bean butter dorayaki, eat-in dorayaki (smooth), dorayaki (white)
