At the time of this review, this shop is ranked 1st in the Haneda Airport Sweets Ranking on Tabelog. I didn't know about it at all, but I thought it must be delicious because there was a long line, so I decided to buy some souvenirs for my family. Just before reaching the register, I noticed that a small cookie sandwich called N.Y. Caramel Sand was priced at 1,400 yen including tax for 8 pieces, which seemed quite expensive... (^_^;) But I thought it must be because it's a fancy brand from New York, only to realize that it's actually made by a company called "Tokyo Tamago Honpo" that makes things like "Gomatamago" (sesame seed candy)... I felt a bit deceived, haha. So, my family tried it first, and their reaction was like "It's sweet... (brief silence). But, um... it's delicious (trying to be polite)"... ^^; So I also tried one piece, but honestly, it didn't suit my taste. I even wondered why it's so popular. It's a small cookie sandwich about 5cm in diameter. It has a crispy cookie with chocolate and gooey caramel paste in between. It's a simple composition, and it doesn't seem like something that should cost 175 yen per piece. The taste includes chocolate, caramel, nuts, and eggs, giving a typical American sweets vibe. The taste direction is not bad, but it was just too sweet for me. (By the way, this small piece contains a whopping 108kcal, haha) I think it would be tough to eat without a bitter espresso. According to the official website, it is modeled after a popular snack called Havana Sand from the 1960s in New York. Well, I'm someone who doesn't like overly sweet foreign-made sweets to begin with, so if it's modeled after that, it probably just isn't for me. Thank you for the meal.
