Yakiniku set meal (with rice, miso soup, pickles) for 750 yen. The restaurant is a bit far from the station, located near the Seiyu supermarket parking lot. They offer cheap set meals like croquettes for 480 yen. Popular items include pork cutlet curry, fried rice, and daily specials. The yakiniku set meal is like pork sauté, with three large slices of pork cut into pieces. It has a peppery salty flavor with plenty of ginger on top. It's a fresh take on the traditional yakiniku set meal that is usually cooked in yakiniku sauce. Adding a little soy sauce halfway through also tasted delicious.

Tonkatsu set meal for ¥630 and Miso-stewed mackerel for ¥360. Located in a quiet residential area beyond the "Kichijoji Sun Road Shopping Street" after exiting Kichijoji Station North Exit, "Maruken Shokudo" stands with a warm-hearted atmosphere run by a lovely couple. I dropped by on a weekday afternoon as I had some errands nearby. It had been about 4 years since my last visit, but I was once again impressed by the great value for money. I ordered the tonkatsu set meal and a single serving of miso-stewed mackerel, all for less than 1000 yen!! Both the tonkatsu and mackerel were quite generous in size and genuinely delicious. The cost performance is so high that I almost feel guilty. The landlady mentioned that due to rising ingredient costs, they might have to raise prices around autumn. They really should raise prices. It would be a major issue if the restaurant were to close down. I truly respect the owner couple for always considering their customers and sticking to fair prices. Please take care of yourselves, and I hope to visit again soon without waiting too long. (2023.8.8/3.42/94 people)

Before 2 PM on Saturday. The seats are nicely filled without having to wait in line. The curry rice has a lot of sauce, making it hard to see the cutlet. The plate is full of sauce, making it a bit difficult to eat, but it's just right. It makes me feel like a mischievous boy again. The homemade curry has a thick sauce (almost like the yellow curry from the Showa era but not quite), with large chunks of onions, carrots, pork, and plenty of it. The cutlet has a crispy coating that is slightly junky but good. The portion size is generous. It's the best when something that looks delicious actually tastes delicious. The service is also gentle.

Had lunch at Maruken Shokudo. It's really cheap. Surprisingly cheap. Ordered the yakiniku set meal and tonkatsu curry. Also had some karaage and stir-fried eggplant. Everything was delicious. The couple next to us paid only 960 yen for both of them, which was shocking! A great restaurant where you can eat delicious food and get full. Lunchtime can get crowded, so make sure to go with some extra time. Thank you for the meal.

I had the daily special set meal with ham and eggs and fried chicken. The fried chicken was hot and crispy, while the ham and eggs were soft and runny. The miso soup was full of seaweed and green onions. The restaurant had a calm atmosphere with an elderly couple running it, giving off a sense of sincerity.

The exterior of the shop is an old-fashioned diner! The inside of the shop is also filled with a Showa era atmosphere! I hope this shop never disappears, with its nostalgic atmosphere, set meals, affordability, and quick service! It's the best shop where you can feel the Showa era! A representative diner in Kichijoji since old times! It's a Showa-style diner worth visiting, a little away from the station.

"On 23/05, I visited the restaurant for a solo weekday lunch as usual, or so I said, but it had been 2 and a half years since my last visit. I often drive west on 'Joshidai Avenue' in my car, but there are often no parking spaces available at the corner parking lot, so I end up passing by. Lately, I have been driving straight on Joshidai Avenue and parking before reaching Ryuka-san, so I decided to visit after a long time. The owner asked me, 'Water or tea?' I ordered the 'Miso-simmered mackerel' set meal and a 'raw egg', totaling 630 yen. There was one customer ahead of me, and the smell of 'Stir-fried green peppers' was delightful. There were two customers behind me, each ordering 'Minced cutlet'. The food arrived promptly. The mackerel miso simmer was substantial. The miso soup had plenty of seaweed and tofu, and the default white rice came in a bowl, accompanied by pickles. And a large raw egg. I'm not a fan of fish bones, but for fish lovers, the 'small bones' are not a problem, especially with 'simmered fish' as they are easily removed. The raw egg is mixed with a little soy sauce, beaten, and poured over the rice, making it a reverse TKG, meaning the rice is in the egg bowl, turning it into a 'rice-covered egg'. Why? Because I also want to pour the simmered miso sauce over the rice... I finished every last bit! With the words 'Take care' behind me, I left the restaurant feeling grateful for the peaceful lunchtime. Thank you for the meal!"

I found a nice restaurant while looking for a place to have dinner alone. I decided to try it out. I ordered the pork cutlet curry for 700 yen. The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of vegetables in the dish! It had way more vegetables than I would put in when cooking at home. It was very healthy. The taste was like a comforting home-cooked meal. It made me forget that I was eating out. They seem to often run out of daily specials. Overall, the food was cheap and had a comforting taste. I can easily imagine it being crowded during lunch hours. Next time I feel like I need more vegetables but don't want to cook, I'll come back here.

The other day, I visited Maruken Shokudo in Kichijoji! It's located about a 15-minute walk from Kichijoji Station North Exit! Although it's a bit away from the station, the road is mostly straight so it's easy to find! The interior of the restaurant has a classic diner feel to it! They have tables that can seat about 12 people! The restaurant is run by a staff of two and has a cozy atmosphere loved by locals! The menu is displayed on the wall and most items are priced under 500 yen, making it very affordable! This time, I ordered the "Yakiniku Teishoku (¥750)"! It arrived in about 15 minutes and was made with pork loin topped with ginger! It was delicious and had a good portion size! This is a great value diner in Kichijoji! If you're in the area, be sure to stop by! Thank you for the meal, I will definitely go again!

This is my first visit for lunch. It is located in a residential area about 1 km north of JR Chuo Line Kichijoji Station. It is just south of Joshi-Dori (Tokyo Joshi University). The interior of the restaurant has a Showa-era atmosphere, with narrow seating and run by a senior couple. The menu is typical of a set meal restaurant, but overall it is quite affordable. Since the order ratio seems to be high for "curry rice" and "pork cutlet curry rice," I chose the "pork cutlet curry rice" for 700 yen. When ordering, they ask, "Are you okay with fukujinzuke?" This "pork cutlet curry rice" has a huge amount of onions. It looks like onions, carrots, and pork. The curry is poured all over the pork cutlet, making it hard to distinguish the meat. The curry has a thick consistency and a homey type, but it is flavorful. Although it is a bit off the main area of Kichijoji, the quality for 700 yen is fantastic.

I visited the restaurant just before noon on a regular day. It was smaller than I had imagined, but the atmosphere was like an old-fashioned diner, which was nice. The husband and wife running the place were both very friendly and it was very cozy. I ordered fried rice and ham and eggs. I was debating between soy sauce and sauce, but the husband suggested putting both on half of each. It was fun and the meal was delicious. Thank you!

I arrived at the retro diner around noon on Saturday and there was no wait, so I was seated at a shared table. The husband and wife owners warmly welcomed me. They have set meals for under 500 yen, which is very cost-effective. After much deliberation, I ordered the large serving of pork cutlet curry. The place was busy, so it took about 20 minutes for the food to be served, but that's understandable. The curry had a firm and solid texture, almost like leftover curry from the day before. It had a lot of onions which added a sweet flavor and nice texture. The cutlet was on the smaller side but was crispy and fresh. I was able to enjoy a traditional homemade curry. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and it was a good value for the price. Thank you for the meal. Next time, I'll have a beer.

When passing by the shop, I peeked in and saw that it was always crowded. I visited Maruken Shokudo, located 1-2 minutes from Kichijoji Burger, and had their curry cutlet. The homely curry was comforting to eat. The thick curry sauce was filled with plenty of chunky vegetables and lots of meat, reminding me of the nostalgic taste of eating at grandma's house. The cutlet was fried crispy. When eaten with the bright red sweet fukujinzuke, it somehow made me smile. The elderly couple who run the place are so kind, and their warmth adds to the charm of the place. I really don't want to lose these kinds of shops, definitely. Thank you for the meal.

I was searching for fried rice (Yakimeshi) and found a nearby diner, so I decided to check it out. I was expecting a slightly run-down diner, but when I arrived, there were a few people waiting in front of the shop - it's a popular spot! The sign saying "public diner" added to the appeal. After a short wait, I entered the diner. Looking at the menu, the prices were surprisingly low for Kichijoji! No wonder it's popular. The friendly landlady also seemed to be a key factor in its popularity. The small diner had three tables of different sizes, creating a cozy atmosphere. There were old black and white photos of the previous shop owner displayed, with "Maruken" written on them. I wonder if it used to be a ramen shop. The Yakimeshi on the menu caught my eye, priced at ¥600. I didn't hesitate to order it. I could hear the sizzling sound coming from the kitchen in the back. After a while, the dish was ready. The friendly landlady brought it to me. This Yakimeshi looked exactly like it should. The ingredients included pork, carrots, corn, onions, and green peas. It didn't have the typical Chinese umami seasoning taste, but rather a gentle flavor. The Yakimeshi had a nice chewy texture with the crunchy onions and carrots. I wanted to eat something like this today, not the usual fluffy fried rice. Satisfied. Rating: 7.5 out of 10.

I went to Yodobashi to pick up my order. Kichijoji on a Sunday was really crowded with long lines everywhere! I was planning to leave quickly, but decided to eat something before heading back. I ended up at Maruken Shokudo, which I hadn't visited in over a year. I ordered the yakiniku set meal with thick slices of pork belly. I asked for the sauce to be light and lots of grated ginger on top! Oh right, ginger! I could do without it, but it's okay. Since I had to catch the bus, I quickly ate and paid. The owner was still as gentle as ever. And as always, he said "Take care~" as he saw me off. Thank you for the meal.

I came to do some shopping at Yodobashi in Kichijoji on this day, so before heading home, I stopped by this popular cafeteria, Maruken, to have lunch. My original plan was to go to Hopeken for lunch, which I hadn't visited in decades, but unfortunately it was closed on that day. Maruken is located across the Kichijoji station, further down the Gokaichi-dori street on the left side. The interior of the restaurant is very cozy, with about four tables. It is run by an elderly couple. I took a seat after moving the newspapers casually placed on the table. The menu is displayed on the wall, so I carefully looked through the options. The prices were very reasonable. The tonkatsu set for 580 yen caught my eye, but wait, they also have yakimeshi. Hmm... Both the fried egg and ham and egg are priced the same at 230 yen each. I decided on the ham and egg. Now, what should I choose as the main dish? Macaroni salad set? Cold tofu set? Both priced at a surprising 450 yen each. I hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether to try the cold tofu set. I felt a faint expectation of trying something new and breaking out of my shell. I placed my order, "Cold tofu set and ham and egg, please." The waitress repeated my order and a male customer sitting nearby seemed surprised that they had a cold tofu set on the menu. I already felt a sense of accomplishment even before tasting the food. The cold tofu set and ham and egg were served on one plate. The set included rice, miso soup, pickles, and a whole block of cold tofu cut into small pieces with ponzu sauce on the side. The ham and egg were served on a bed of salad greens. I poured ponzu sauce over the cold tofu and soy sauce over the ham and egg before digging in. I found the cold tofu a bit challenging to eat, but I enjoyed the ham and egg with the rice. The miso soup was delicious. Although the restaurant owner confidently serves the cold tofu set, I personally found it a bit too much for my taste. I left feeling satisfied with the ham and egg. Maybe next time, I'll enjoy a beer with the cold tofu and macaroni salad, and finish with yakimeshi.

On Saturday, a friend and I visited for the first time after 2:00 PM. I ordered Stir-fried Vegetables for 330 yen, Ham and Eggs for 230 yen, Shredded Dried Bonito for 120 yen, and Rice for 160 yen. My friend ordered the Fried Oyster Set Meal for 530 yen. We arrived just as the customers were changing, so everyone was waiting for their dishes. The food was served in about 15 minutes and we enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal.

Visited for a solo lunch at 11:00 am on a weekday. Two other customers were already there, both seemed to be regulars. I ordered the minced cutlet set with macaroni salad and opted for half rice. The size of the cutlet was similar to a large can of red beans, with a thickness of about 2 cm. The minced cutlet was more like 80% minced meat and 20% croquette, well seasoned and delicious. The macaroni salad had a gentle flavor that matched the owner's personality. The miso soup with tofu and seaweed was also wonderfully comforting. I asked for water to take my medication, but the owner kindly brewed me some hot tea, saying it's better for cold days. I'm already thinking about what to try next time. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I visited around 11:30 am on a weekday. There were about two other customers. When I entered, I was asked to sanitize my hands and whether I would like tea or water. The staff was very friendly. I ordered the mackerel miso stew set for 530 yen! It's so cheap! It took a little while, but the set included rice, miso soup, mackerel miso stew, and pickles, all simple but delicious! The miso stew was a bit mild in flavor, but it tasted homemade and very good. It feels good for the body. This cost performance is hard to find in Tokyo! It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I saw this restaurant on my way to Atre Kichijoji the other day and it caught my attention. When I looked it up, I found out that it's a very popular place with affordable set meals! I decided to visit later on. It was around 11:40 am on a weekday for lunch. The restaurant was almost full but I managed to find a seat. I had already decided on the fried oyster set meal. I just love fried oysters this time of year. The half rice option was only 510 yen (tax included)!! The prices are like those at a university cafeteria for every dish. Soon enough, my meal arrived!! The fried oysters were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with 4 pieces. There was plenty of shredded cabbage. It also came with miso soup with tofu and seaweed, and pickles. The fried oysters had a crispy coating and a tender inside. They were delicious with sauce and lemon! The miso soup had generous ingredients. The rice was chewy and tasty. The pickles were also good! I ordered half rice, but it was actually a full bowl. Half rice is more than enough for women. You can have a substantial lunch like this for only 510 yen including tax. It's surprisingly affordable, like a university cafeteria. Even if you add another main dish to your order, it's still very cheap. I was amazed to find such a honest and delicious set meal restaurant in Kichijoji. I will definitely come back again. The restaurant is run by an elderly couple, and I hope they stay healthy and keep running the place for a long time! Thank you for the meal♪
