There was a menu I aimed for and revisited. I ordered the special katsudon for 2800 yen (you can order all special items for lunch as well!!). The dish arrived with an overwhelming visual impact. The black, shiny bowl was even bigger than a ramen bowl. My companions were surprised and asked, "Wait, are you a food fighter?" That's how voluminous it was. Now, onto the taste test. The pork was incredibly thick and tender, cooked just right with a good amount of fat. The katsu was on the softer side, probably due to being simmered well. It might be a matter of personal preference, but I enjoyed it. The rice was soaked in the broth, which I personally like, so I was quite satisfied. The flavor was on the sweeter side. The egg was perfectly cooked, and there were plenty of onions. In terms of ingredients, it was simple. The restaurant's message of "savor the katsu" was strongly felt. I initially thought it might be tough to finish, but the miso soup, pickles, and salad provided a nice break between bites. However, despite being fully prepared, I couldn't finish the last bit of rice. The portion of rice was just too much. I regret not asking for less rice when ordering. It was a great deal to get such a huge portion for 2800 yen. Thank you for the meal.

We made a reservation and used the restaurant for a drinking party with four people at night. We started with draft beer, followed by ginger pork and simmered vegetables. The meat was amazing with its thickness and cabbage. Then, we enjoyed fried fish, chicken cutlet, and premium pork cutlet while drinking oolong tea. We really felt like we ate a lot of meat. I hadn't been there in about 10 years, but now I see that it's a popular restaurant. I didn't know that. It was still a delicious restaurant. By the way, I heard that it takes time to fry the premium pork cutlet during lunchtime, so it can be a bit of a problem! *Photos are of ginger pork and premium pork cutlet.

I've always wanted to visit this restaurant. I missed several opportunities due to the pandemic, but finally, I made it. They are famous for their incredibly thick-cut ginger pork. I visited on a Saturday at 11:25 am, even though they open at 11:30, they were already open with 2 customers ahead of me. Soon after, regular customers started coming in, and the counter was full. They have 7 counter seats, one table for 4, and a raised seating area at the back. The pork is fried in a pan until both sides are crispy, then they add sake, ginger, and mirin. Once cooked, they cut it to the desired size, put it back in the pan, and pour sauce over it. Just before serving, they ask how much cabbage you want. I opted for a regular portion and a little rice. The set meal comes with rice, tofu, miso soup with seaweed, pickles, and grated daikon. Now, the taste test! The pork is incredibly thick but tender, and the sweet and salty sauce is so delicious. The cabbage is also really good. The pork has just the right amount of fat, making it crispy and sweet. I adjusted the portion, so I enjoyed it until the end. The tonkatsu looked amazing too! The sauce is delicate but the ingredients are simple, and the fresh grated ginger really stands out. It was so delicious. I'm satisfied! Thank you for the meal.

I had heard that the ginger pork at this restaurant was amazing, so I saved up to try it. However, when I finally went, the price had increased from ¥2600 to ¥3200. Being frugal, I hesitated to spend that much on pork ginger, so I opted for the lunch special tonkatsu instead. It was also delicious, especially with salt. They also provide grated daikon radish, ponzu sauce, sauce, and mustard, allowing for three different flavor variations. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they offer free extra rice, which was not mentioned on the menu. The use of high-quality pork guarantees that the ginger pork is also delicious. I will definitely come back to try it next time.

Ginger pork is almost like a challenge menu in terms of portion size, but the meat is tender and fatty, and the sweet and delicious sauce with a strong taste of ginger and garlic makes it easy to eat with rice. The katsudon also has tender meat and a tasty sauce! You can keep eating more and more rice. The restaurant has a sense of history, but the interior is well-maintained and clean, giving off a high level of cleanliness. I would like to come back and try more dishes!

Today is payday, so I decided to treat myself to tonkatsu for lunch. I visited this restaurant, one of the last remaining of the "Big Three Tonkatsu" in Otsuka. I was tempted to order the famous steak-like ginger pork or the over 3000 yen premium pork loin, but I restrained myself after seeing the lunch menu with a 1400 yen tonkatsu. I thought to myself, "If I order the over 3000 yen dish now, I might not be able to come back next time." So, I went with the lunch menu this time (but I did order a draft beer). The tonkatsu arrived in about 10 minutes, looking like a classic tonkatsu dish, served with miso soup, pickles, and grated radish. The crispy coating had a satisfying crunch, and the high-quality tender meat was delicious. The portion was just right, and the side dishes were also of high quality. The rice was also excellent! I might visit this place more often than the higher-priced options. I still have some unfinished business with the over 3000 yen dishes. Thank you for the meal.

This time, I had some business near Otsuka and decided to have lunch at this restaurant for the first time. I had checked it out online before and had always wanted to try their ginger pork. I arrived around 1:30 pm on a weekday. There were about 8 people eating at the counter and tables, but there were still seats available at the counter so I sat down without having to wait. It seems like many people order the huge portion of ginger pork at this restaurant, but since it was my first visit, I was originally planning to try the ginger pork. However, as I was looking at the menu, I noticed that the special premium pork cutlet was marked with a star as recommended by the owner. As someone who enjoys trying different tonkatsu restaurants, I decided to go with the premium pork cutlet this time. The dish arrived about 10 minutes after ordering. The pork cutlet was very tender and juicy, with a rich umami flavor that oozed out as I chewed. The breading was crispy and had a nice aroma. I am looking forward to trying the loin cutlet and ginger pork next time. This restaurant has definitely become one of the places I want to visit again.

In July 2023, I had dinner in Otsuka. I got off at JR Otsuka Station, walked out of the south exit, crossed the "Metropolitan Route 436" and headed to "Otsuka Sango Street". I turned into a side street on the left and found the restaurant I was looking for, called "Sansetsu". I had seen this place on the TV show "Ariyoshi's Honest Walk" on June 24, 2023, where Ariyoshi Hiroyuki, Okubo Kayoko, Yuuchami, and Ikuno Yoko visited. After overcoming three failed attempts due to private events, sold out food, and temporary closures, I finally managed to enter the restaurant on the fourth try. I sat at the counter, enjoyed a highball for 500 yen, and ordered the ginger pork for 3,200 yen. The meal started with edamame, rice, miso soup, and pickles, followed by the main dish of ginger pork cooked and seasoned in front of me. It was served on a mountain of cabbage and topped with sauce. The cabbage was a great vegetable starter, and the thick ginger pork with its sweet and savory sauce was a satisfying meal. The homemade cucumber and daikon pickles were a refreshing palate cleanser, and the red miso soup with tofu was delicious. Overall, it was a challenging but rewarding dining experience that I would love to try again.

I visited a restaurant recommended on the TikTok channel "Salty@Tokyo Gourmet Introduction" where they showcased a mountain of ginger pork. The price was 3200 yen, which is quite high for a simple dish like pork ginger, but I decided to give it a try because I believe in the quality of the pork being served. I arrived at 11:23 AM as the first customer, with one person already seated. Although the official opening time was 11:30 AM, the restaurant seemed to have opened a bit earlier. When I visited the restaurant before on June 27th, there was a long line of about 8 people, so I had to give up. This time, I aimed to arrive before the official opening time. I ordered the "Ginger Pork" with "Extra Cabbage". Many customers also ordered the ginger pork, despite its high price. It seemed like more than half of the customers chose the ginger pork. The cabbage portion varied among customers, with some not opting for the extra cabbage. This suggests that the popularity of the ginger pork might be based on its taste rather than just its novelty. My order arrived in 13 minutes, and the presentation was impressive! The side dishes included rice, red miso soup, grated radish, and pickled cucumbers. The ginger pork sauce was generously poured over the cabbage as well. Although there was visible fat on the pork, it wasn't overpowering at all. The fat actually enhanced the flavor of the pork. Compared to the pork at Fuji Maru, known for its rich flavor, this ginger pork was not as heavy. The restaurant was full by 11:45 AM. While ginger pork typically pairs well with rice, the combination with cabbage made the rice less appealing. The sauce wasn't too salty, allowing the natural flavors to shine through. The portion of meat wasn't overly generous; it was the cabbage that was abundant. Despite my efforts to eat more cabbage, I ended up with some leftovers. I chose to finish the cabbage with the ginger pork sauce. Due to the slightly high price and overall satisfaction, I would rate this experience 3.3 stars out of 5. Thank you for the meal!

A traditional, solid-looking shop with a nostalgic feel. When you pass through the curtain, time seems to slow down. I recommend ordering the tonkatsu (pork cutlet) set marked with a star. Watching the chef cook, you can feel confident that it will be delicious. The pork cutlet is thick yet tender. Each bite is a flood of umami and sweetness in your mouth. It tastes delicious with sauce, salt, grated radish, or just plain. The tonkatsu lunch is pure happiness. Also, the interactions between the owners, a father and mother, are just adorable. You can't help but feel happy. The atmosphere is really lovely. A happy tonkatsu restaurant.

After a month, I visited Sangetsu again. In the evening, I was craving fried food and the first place that came to mind was the famous local restaurant Sangetsu. They are known for their ginger pork, but just having their basic pork cutlet is satisfying enough. Their appetizers served with alcohol are delicious too, it's the best! You have to try this eggplant miso stir-fry dish, it's amazing!

Today, I decided to visit a restaurant in Otsuka that I had been curious about, as there aren't many enticing lunch options in Ikebukuro. While this place is known for its tonkatsu and katsudon, I heard that their ginger pork is also delicious, so I decided to try that. The price was a bit higher at 3200 yen compared to other lunch options. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, with a traditional feel to it. The portion of cabbage served was normal, but I later regretted not getting the larger portion. The thick slices of meat were tender, juicy, and had a good amount of volume. The meat was cooked at an angle, making it easy to eat. The flavor of the meat, the sweetness of the fat, and the taste of the sauce all combined to make it very delicious. The rice was so good that I couldn't stop eating it. The miso soup served had a strong bonito flavor, which complemented the meal well. The homemade pickles were light and refreshing. Overall, the ginger pork was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. Next time, I might try the special katsudon.

■May 21, 2023 At Otsuka's "San Setsu," I tried the jumbo-sized ginger pork! http://blog.livedoor.jp/gakudai1/archives/87560687.html San Setsu (Otsuka) Ginger pork (jumbo size) - 3,200 yen Featured on the TV show "Thick Cut Gourmet," Otsuka's "San Setsu" is known for its ginger pork. I visited on a Saturday at the opening time of 11:30 am, with no other customers in sight. The elderly owner, a lady who seemed to be the mother, and a man who appeared to be the son were running the place. The interior had a retro Showa-era tonkatsu restaurant vibe, with a counter seating for 7 and 2 table seats. When I asked for permission to take photos, they kindly agreed. The owner's recommended menu items included tonkatsu (thick cut) for 1,400 yen, mixed (shrimp, squid, fish) for 1,450 yen, chicken katsu for 1,300 yen, and more. Without hesitation, I ordered the ginger pork for 3,200 yen with a jumbo size (free). The order was placed without any objections. After about 15 minutes of waiting, the dish was served. "Here you go!... Bang!!!" What an extreme presentation! A jumbo-sized ginger pork was served on a plate with a diameter of 23 centimeters. The thickly sliced ginger pork was placed on a wall of cabbage, creating a towering and impressive dish. The sight was truly like a Devil's Tower of ginger pork! I love such bold presentations! The jumbo-sized rice was served in a teacup with a diameter of 16 centimeters, along with pickles, grated radish, and miso soup, making it a meal with a generous portion. The moment I tasted it... "Wow, this is amazing!" The ginger pork made with 300 grams of pork loin was tender and delicious. The ginger sauce was sweet and had a refreshing and elegant flavor. The thick cuts allowed for a satisfying chew, especially the fatty parts that melted in the mouth, incredibly tasty! I couldn't help but devour it! Despite the generous amount of cabbage, it was enjoyable to eat with the ginger sauce. I finished the dish in one go, along with the miso soup. With a full stomach after replenishing meat and vegetables, the jumbo-sized ginger pork not only satisfied my appetite but also provided a visually appealing experience! However, at 3,200 yen for 300 grams of ginger pork, it felt slightly expensive compared to the "Special Loin 300 grams for 2,000 yen" at "Tonkatsu Aomi"! My wife ordered the mixed (shrimp, squid, fish) for 1,450 yen. There are parking meters around the restaurant. Today was my 8th visit. It's been half a year! I had the premium pork cutlet set for lunch. It was delicious. You can really see the skill of the chef. I would like to try the premium loin cutlet someday, but it's more than twice the price, so I'm hesitant. Thank you for the meal. I will come again.

I visited a quaint restaurant with a traditional atmosphere, unlike the trendy fully reservation-only tonkatsu place. It was Saturday night and the place was bustling, but I managed to get a table just in time. I ordered the top-grade pork cutlet, which was thick, crispy, and tender - I felt like I could eat several bowls of rice with it. Another customer ordered the ginger pork, which came in a generous portion with thick pork steaks like I've never seen before. The eggplant miso and spinach stir-fry also looked incredibly delicious. I can't wait to try those dishes next time.

I suddenly felt like eating tonkatsu, and when I had business in Otsuka area, I searched for a bookmark and found this place. It was a bit confusing to go down the narrow road, but there was a nice noren curtain hanging. During lunchtime, it was almost full and I was guided to a corner of the counter. I hesitated a bit, but I chose the fillet cutlet. Since it was fillet cutlet, the meat was very tender without any sinew. It was fried well, and I felt my upper palate cut (lol). The cabbage was also crunchy and delicious.

I happened to pass by a nice-looking restaurant and decided to visit. I ordered the lunch tonkatsu for 1300 yen. I was confident it was a good choice after seeing the first and second generations. I enjoyed it until the end without adding sauce. It was tender and delicious. The akadashi (red miso soup) was also tasty, so I had seconds. Thank you for the meal. Oh, they also have ginger pork on NEWS every. It looks delicious.

A traditional and cozy tonkatsu restaurant. The menu is quite extensive with generous portions. Highly recommended for those who want to savor the sweetness of the fat. When I mentioned that I have a reaction to allicin in ginger pork, they kindly made a ginger pork without garlic for me. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy it with peace of mind. I was very happy with the accommodating service, thank you very much.

Initially, I had planned to order the mixed plate (shrimp, squid, and fish), but today they were unable to provide it. The menu options available today are limited, and it's still too early to have a katsudon with ginger (lol)!! So, I decided to order the bite-sized pork cutlet instead (lol)!! It's my 6th visit, and I finally tried the tonkatsu (lol)!! The cutlet is sliced in half and clearly visible inside. I enjoyed one half with mustard and sauce, and the other half with grated ponzu sauce (lol)!! There are still many menu items I want to try, so I won't rush to have the mixed plate (lol)!! I will definitely come back to eat here again (lol)!!

I had ginger pork and tonkatsu. The portions were as rumored, and I am full! The cabbage at the end was a bit tough, but it tasted delicious with the ginger pork sauce. It felt sweet, but it's not the sauce, it's the sweetness of the fat. The tonkatsu was crispy and the meat was tender and tasty. We arrived 10 minutes before opening on Saturday with two people, and there was only one other person waiting. However, 15 minutes after opening, the restaurant was full, and we had to wait about 30 minutes for the first customers to leave. The English menu was interesting, so I'll share it here.

I searched and came to eat the ginger pork set meal, but the price was a bit high. So, I chose something that looked delicious while keeping the cost down. It was the "Chicken Cutlet." The interior of the restaurant was small, with counter seats in front of the kitchen and four-seater tables. I visited near closing time on a weekday, and although there were about 8 seats at the counter, 5 customers were already there. So I had to wait a bit, but when I was seated at the counter, a plate with a mountain of cabbage topped with chicken cutlet, rice, pickles, red miso soup, grated daikon radish was served. I was surprised to see red miso soup in the heart of Tokyo, but as a big fan of red miso soup, I was delighted. That's the kind of feeling I like in miso soup. While trying the chicken cutlet sprinkled with just salt, I was amazed. "What is this tenderness?" It was incredibly tender. It was a refreshing chicken without any greasiness. Simple is best, indeed. The coating was thin and finely chopped, lacking the crispy texture, but it wasn't oily at all. When I tried it with the grated daikon radish on the side, it changed to a refreshing taste and was delicious. The only downside was the sauce. It was placed on the table, but it's not recommended to pour it over the cutlet. It's too strong and overpowers the taste of the chicken, turning it into just a saucy taste. It's probably not a homemade sauce. Next time, I'll splurge and try the ginger pork set meal.
