On July 2, 2023, at Maruhachi Tonkatsu Branch in Oimachi, I tried the jumbo fried chicken set meal! The restaurant is cozy and clean, with a friendly elderly owner and a welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the fried chicken set meal for 1,250 yen, which came with a free extra bowl of rice. The dish arrived with a huge plate piled high with six giant pieces of fried chicken, resembling a mountain of fried chicken in Oimachi. The fried chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the generous portion of rice, cabbage, and hearty miso soup made it a satisfying meal. The fried chicken was so delicious that I couldn't resist getting a second bowl of rice for free. Overall, the meal was reasonably priced and the service was excellent. I highly recommend visiting Maruhachi Tonkatsu Branch in Oimachi for a delicious and filling meal!

This tonkatsu restaurant is recommended for its ginger pork dish and the cozy atmosphere created by the friendly banter between the owners. It's a great place to dine alone and feel at ease. I tried the following dishes:
- Ginger Pork (a la carte) for 1200 yen
- Tonkatsu Set Meal (rice, miso soup, pickles included) for 1400 yen
- You can ask for extra rice once, and if you plan to have more, you can order a larger portion from the start.
The ginger pork dish features thick slices of pork with a nice layer of fat, served on a bed of cabbage with mayonnaise. The pork is juicy and the cabbage becomes soft and flavorful from the heat of the meat. The tonkatsu set meal consists of thinly coated crispy pork cutlets that are juicy inside. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a leisurely meal, and many customers enjoy savoring their food while having a drink.
The restaurant mainly has counter seats and is popular among solo diners or small groups of up to three people. It tends to get crowded quickly, especially on weekends, so it's recommended to make a reservation in advance. The TV in the restaurant plays sumo matches or news, adding to the cozy ambiance created by the owners' conversations.
The restaurant only accepts cash payments. Thank you for the delicious meal!

We made it just before closing time with my companion. We ordered the tonkatsu and karaage. Both were fried for a long time, giving them a slightly burnt appearance. The oil had a bitter taste, but the portion size was satisfying. The friendly atmosphere between the owners was heartwarming. The pickles that came with the meal were plentiful and delicious. We were able to get free refills of rice.

Hamburg steak set meal for 1400 yen at Maru Hachi Tonkatsu branch in Oimachi. This is a long-standing tonkatsu restaurant that has been around for 47 years. As you walk through the pure white noren hanging outside the shop, you are warmly greeted by the hearty owner and the petite and lovely mother. The shiny wooden counter that has been used since the opening gives a sense that delicious food will be served, and my stomach starts to rumble in anticipation. "I'll have the Hamburg steak set meal, please." The Hamburg steak set meal arrives shortly after. A large, flat Hamburg steak topped with a crispy sunny-side-up egg, a mountain of rice and cabbage, and a generous serving of miso soup. Plenty of pickles on the side as well. The Hamburg steak has an old-fashioned taste that contrasts with the juicy meat. The meat melts smoothly, enveloping the tongue with a gentle sweetness. Instead of exclaiming "It's delicious!!!", it's more of a quiet "Mmm~". The slightly sweet sauce is irresistible as well. The round sweetness and acidity embrace the sweetness of the ground meat, making me crave more rice intensely. The rice is cooked just right, soft and without any hard bits. It has a gentleness that gently supports the Hamburg steak. I sip the miso soup. The aroma of root vegetables and the sweetness of the pork blend together, creating a taste that seeps into me. As the rice diminishes, the mother asks with a smile, "Would you like a refill?" In response to her kindness, I end up getting a refill without realizing it. My stomach is full, and my heart is full. "Thank you for the meal." Rubbing my full belly, I walk through the noren. The warmth and kindness of the couple are infused in the food, in the atmosphere, and in the dishes, embracing my stomach and heart with a warmth that comforts me.

I visited because it was nearby. I ordered a set with a bite-sized pork cutlet and shrimp fry. While waiting, the owner and his wife talked to me, and they were very kind, which was also nice! Of course, both the cutlet and shrimp fry were delicious. I want to go again! Thank you for the meal!

A slightly run-down (sorry) shop located a little towards Shinagawa from JR Oimachi Station. There are display shelves and recommended menu items in front of the shop! When you open the heavy sliding door, the energetic shop owner, the landlady, greets you! There are 6-7 counter seats. There is also a second-floor tatami room, but they recommend waiting for a counter seat. The menu is mostly fried food (lol). The katsu set lunch is 1300 yen. Thick katsu, cabbage, pickles, miso soup, rice! It's a lot, isn't it? But young people say they will eat 4 bowls! Later customers order toppings like fried chicken or mixed fry! It's all about the large portions that make you feel like you're about to get heartburn. The katsu is crispy and tender, cooked just right! The shop owner and landlady like to chat over the counter. I had a fun conversation and enjoyed lunch in a friendly atmosphere. I definitely want to come back to this place!

I finally had the chance to visit "Maruhachi Tonkatsu" branch, which I had been wanting to try for a long time. It is located on a narrow road along the railway tracks overlooking the Oimachi JR Yamanote Line train depot. It's a bit far from the shopping street where the main store "Maruhachi Honten" is located. This branch was established as a separate shop through a division from the main store in 1977. The green tent and wax food samples in the showcase show its long history. The white noren curtain was beautiful. When you slide open the door, you'll see a counter filled with customers. I was seated at the only available seat and immediately served a cold beer. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, with the friendly owner chatting happily with the customers. The tonkatsu set meal costs 1300 yen, and a large bottle of beer costs 700 yen. The beer was served ice-cold and tasted delicious. They also served pickles as a side dish. The tonkatsu was large with a crispy, dark coating typical of "Maruhachi," and the meat was thick and juicy. The egg layer inside the coating added a unique texture. The tonkatsu was best enjoyed with sauce and mustard. The cabbage side dish and rice were generously served. The miso soup with pork was especially tasty. Overall, the tonkatsu was delicious, but I should have tried the more expensive premium loin cutlet for 500 yen more. The restaurant offers a variety of fried dishes, making it more of a set meal restaurant than just a tonkatsu place.

A restaurant run by a kind master with a Showa-era mentality and a charming landlady. I want to try the tonkatsu, ginger pork, and menchi, but the portions are large so I can only choose one. They are all delicious and I always have a hard time deciding. On this day, I enjoyed the pork loin set meal.

I came to eat again. I was the first customer of the evening today. The owner and his wife were watching the news on TV. Today, I decided in my heart and ordered the shrimp fry and bite-sized pork cutlet set. The shrimp fry was big and satisfying. The bite-sized pork cutlet was so voluminous that I had to divide it into four bites. The pickles were plentiful, with a large serving of cabbage and 5 slices of pickled radish. In the past, you could get a rice refill, but today they said, "You can have a refill," but I asked for a little more cabbage and they happily served it. While eating, I listened to the conversation between the two of them and felt like I was learning about life from the conversation of a happy couple. They talked about topics on TV, travel, raising children, and memories before coming to Tokyo. It was not that I was part of the conversation, but I felt like I was learning about life while enjoying a delicious meal.

I was really torn between ordering tonkatsu or ginger pork, but I really wanted ginger pork so I decided on the ginger pork set meal for 1400 yen. The portion of cabbage was huge, the sauce was plentiful, and the miso soup was full of ingredients! When the dish arrived, the customer next to me murmured, "Ginger pork sounds good too." It was very satisfying and delicious with a lot of volume. The playful banter between the friendly couple was cute, and they frequently offered refills of rice and cabbage, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere at the restaurant.

On Sunday for lunch, I searched on Tabelog and went to this restaurant. It's about a 5-minute walk from Oimachi Station, with the Yamanote Line vehicle base in sight. The exterior looks old, and I hesitated to open the door. Inside, there are about 8-10 counter seats. The menu is chosen from the dishes posted on the wall inside the restaurant. There are no paper menus. I ordered the safe option, the tonkatsu set. They fry the tonkatsu in lard oil right in front of you. At this point, I realized it was huge. The cabbage and rice were also large portions. Even though they said I could have seconds of rice... I'm glad I stuck with the safe option of the tonkatsu set. The pork loin was even bigger, and I couldn't finish it all. The taste was delicious. The master and his wife are talkative. The restaurant seems to have been in business for over 45 years. The master apparently suffered a serious illness, but I hope they continue to do their best.

I entered the restaurant around 7 pm on Friday. There were only two customers. This branch of Tonkatsu Maru Hachi is located about a 1-minute walk from Oimachi Station. The menu is more extensive than the main branch and about 10% cheaper. The service provided a sense of good value. Today, I ordered the Ebi Fry set meal for 1750 yen. The dish arrived promptly and to my surprise, there were actually 3 large shrimp instead of the 2 shown on the display outside. The rice portion was generous, and you could ask for a refill. The Ebi Fry was delicious and satisfying, although it didn't have a special taste. The cabbage portion was also generous. The staff provided pleasant service. Thank you for the meal. I am full now.

It had been a while since I visited. An elderly couple with a warm atmosphere visited the restaurant. The restaurant has a counter and a second floor, but currently the second floor is only accessible if you can carry your own food due to health reasons. This time, I ordered the fried chicken set for 1250 yen and the mixed fry for 2000 yen, along with a highball. As always, the fried chicken was plentiful, crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. It's definitely made with thigh meat. The taste is strong with the flavor of fried chicken. The mixed fry included an all-star lineup of original sauce tonkatsu, shrimp fry, squid fry, and menchi katsu. The miso soup was pork miso soup, the rice was freshly cooked, and the pickles were cabbage and yellow pickled daikon. As always, it was delicious. I hope they stay healthy forever.

After opening, there were already three customers seated, ordering ginger pork, pork cutlet set, and a takeout order. I couldn't find the oyster fry on the menu this time, as the owner mentioned they no longer serve it. I was disappointed but ended up deciding on the pork cutlet and shrimp fry set. The portions were generous and the shrimp fry was perfectly cooked, with a nice crunch. The atmosphere was pleasant, with background conversations adding to the cozy dining experience. I enjoyed the meal so much that I even had a second helping of rice, feeling comfortably full by the end. It felt like I was not just there for the food, but also to enjoy a slice of everyday life through the conversations around me. It was truly a unique and enjoyable experience.

Maru Hachi, a popular tonkatsu restaurant branch in Oimachi Station. Depending on the timing, there may be a line. It seems that the owners trained at the main branch and then opened this branch together as a couple. The restaurant has a lot of history. The couple cooks while chatting amiably, creating a very pleasant atmosphere.
- Menu items tried: Menchi Katsu set meal for 1200 yen. A very large menchi katsu with plenty of cabbage, along with miso soup and rice. The menchi katsu was crispy, juicy, and very delicious. The miso soup was flavorful and delicious. The tonkatsu set meal and karaage set meal were also very satisfying and generous.

I wanted to try menchi-katsu, so I visited the restaurant right after it opened in the evening. I decided to indulge a little and waited for my order with a beer. As I looked at the menu, I kept thinking about different combinations of dishes I wanted to try next time. Although the tonkatsu seemed like a classic choice, I was also drawn to the fried chicken I saw the person next to me enjoying last time. However, I had already decided on the menchi-katsu before entering the restaurant, so I made sure to order it as soon as I sat down. The menchi-katsu was huge, even bigger than the tonkatsu. I couldn't help but smile. This time, I asked for a lighter portion of rice. It was wonderful. I have decided that next time, I will go for the fried oysters.

A tonkatsu restaurant located along the Oimachi Line. In addition to tonkatsu, they also offer pork cutlets, fried chicken, ginger pork, and more. The portions are huge, so be careful if you are a light eater visiting alone. The restaurant is run by a lovely elderly couple who always seem to be having a good time. Please note that children under elementary school age are not allowed.

The banter between the couple is lovely and makes you want to visit this tonkatsu restaurant. However, my body is telling me that this is the place to come for ginger pork instead. The lady of the house seems to enjoy her ginger pork with a generous serving of cabbage, as she pours the sauce over the cabbage. I ordered the ginger pork (solo) for 1100 yen, with free refills of cabbage. The cabbage here is so good that I ordered a large portion of it! The thick slices of pork, three of them, arrived on the plate, looking like they might become giant tonkatsu. The cabbage is sandwiched between the ginger pork and is generously covered in mayonnaise. The calorie count is happiness. I start by picking out the cabbage from the bottom and eating my way through. The cabbage becomes slightly tender from the heat of the sauce, which is delightful. I keep asking for more cabbage, and the kind man happily obliges. I eat while dipping the cabbage in the sauce, enjoying every bite. The thick pork slices are easy to chew, with no difficulty in cutting through. The atmosphere is cozy, and the interaction between the couple is cute. The menu on the wall is just a part of the full menu, so refer to the one above the kitchen for more options. The doodles on the wooden menu at the back seem to be from their relatives or grandchildren, capturing the essence of the couple well. There is a TV at the back, giving the place a nice retro vibe. Make sure to go a bit earlier as the couple closes the shop earlier than before to take care of their health. Cash only. Thank you for the meal!

This week I was feeling very tired and in need of something energizing, so I decided to stop by at Sanzaime Murakami Oimachi store. I was torn between eel or tonkatsu, but by the evening I was in the mood for tonkatsu. As I entered the restaurant, I saw that it was a small counter-only place. It was about 70% full, but luckily I didn't have to wait to be seated. I looked at the menu on the wall and decided to order the top loin cutlet for 1800 yen and a bottle of beer for 700 yen. Tonkatsu and beer make a perfect combination. As I started with the beer, a generous portion of pickles was served first, which made me happy. After a short wait, a large plate with a lot of cabbage was placed in front of me, topped with the top loin cutlet. It was huge. At the same time, miso soup and rice were also served. I took a sip of the miso soup and a bite of the rice before starting the meal. The miso soup had a rich flavor and was delicious. Despite being overwhelmed by the size of the tonkatsu, as soon as I took a bite, it reminded me of the taste of Maruhachi, a place I had visited before back in 2010. The distinctive feature of Maruhachi's tonkatsu is the yellowish color of the breading inside. The meat was thickly sliced, and the tonkatsu paired perfectly with the sauce and mustard. I kept eating and the tiredness gradually faded away. This was the kind of tonkatsu I had been craving. The staff at the restaurant were very attentive, asking if the rice was okay and if the tea was still warm. The generous portion size was also a nice touch. I felt satisfied after enjoying a hearty meal. Oimachi never fails to impress with its portion sizes. Thank you for the meal.

A long-established tonkatsu restaurant that has been in business for 43 years. The portions are generous, so it's recommended to visit when you're hungry. This branch is a spin-off from the main store, which is listed in the Tabelog Top 100. The tonkatsu is palm-sized, thick, and crispy, providing a satisfying crunch. It's best enjoyed with mustard to enhance the flavor of the meat. Rice refills are free up to two times, but since the portions are already large, few people opt for seconds. Ordered item (tax included): Tonkatsu set meal - 1,300 yen. At the Tonkatsu restaurant Maru Hachi branch in Oi-machi, I had the Mixed Fry set. As you can see in the photo, it was a huge portion. It had pork cutlet, shrimp fry, squid fry, and minced cutlet, maybe enough for 2 or 3 people? Even I couldn't finish it all (laughs).
