I visited the restaurant on May 31, 2023. I arrived at 11:05 a.m. when the restaurant opened. It is an old tonkatsu restaurant located under the elevated tracks near Yurakucho Station, a little east of Tokyo. There were already three customers when I arrived, so I sat at the counter. I ordered the Rosu Katsu set for 1,500 yen. While waiting, more customers arrived, and by 11:15 a.m., the restaurant was full. The food was served promptly. The set included rice, miso soup with wakame and mitsuba, and pickled cabbage and daikon. The Rosu Katsu had a clean coating and a good thickness, crispy yet tender and delicious. The sweet tonkatsu sauce paired well with the dish. It was a great value for the quality of tonkatsu at this price. I think it could easily be listed among the top tonkatsu restaurants. I was surprised when the office lady next to me suddenly ordered a beer, and even the proprietress seemed taken aback. Well, why not, right?

Top-quality pork cutlet set meal for 1950 yen. Available on weekdays at 11:45, with some open seats. When leaving, there were 10 people waiting. The cutlet is thick but not too tough, juicy, and delicious. The sweetness and umami of the fat are well balanced. The pickles and soup are also tasty. The flavor is well seasoned, and the frying is on the stronger side, which I like. The mustard was not too spicy, which was a small flaw.

Even though I work nearby, it's been a few years since I last visited this place. Today, I decided on tonkatsu and chose the top quality fillet. Excitedly waiting, the smell of the frying meat is so fragrant. As the fillet arrived in front of me, I savored it slowly, slowly chewing. Despite its thick cut, it remained juicy and incredibly delicious.

I went on a regular night. I entered the restaurant and chose a seat at the counter since I was dining alone. They served me cold barley tea and a chilled wet towel, which was much appreciated in this hot season. I ordered the special pork cutlet set meal. The pork cutlet was delicious when eaten with the sauce. It had just the right amount of fat and went well with the rice. I enjoyed the meal - pork cutlet, rice, cabbage, and miso soup. Sometimes the cabbage and miso soup get mixed up, but it's like a perpetual motion. I finished the meal feeling full and satisfied. It was delicious. Next time, I'll try the shrimp fry set meal. Thank you for the meal.

Ginger pork set meal (¥1600). A tonkatsu restaurant under the Yurakucho Guard. The ginger pork is like a solid piece of meat for tonkatsu, grilled with a lot of volume. There is no fat at all, so it may be tiring on the jaw, which could be a matter of personal preference. But the impact is amazing!

It's been a rough morning with a series of unfortunate events. Despite feeling like my luck hasn't been great this week, I decided to visit a restaurant called "Tonkatsu Shige" located next to the Tokyo International Forum. The name of the restaurant has always intrigued me, but I've been avoiding indulging in tonkatsu. However, I thought it was time to try it out, especially since it's a specialty restaurant. The interior was small with a couple of tables and a counter, typical of a restaurant located under a bridge. I arrived early due to an appointment in the afternoon, but the place was already crowded with tourists at around 11:30 am. I managed to find a seat at the counter and ordered the "Special Premium Pork Cutlet Set" for 1,950 yen. It seemed like a reasonable price considering the current market prices for tonkatsu. The tonkatsu was delicious, with the first piece being seasoned with salt and the rest with sauce and mustard. The meal even came with a slice of lemon and what seemed to be an orange for dessert. As I finished my meal, I overheard that the "Special Premium Pork Cutlet" had sold out. I realized that coming in early was the right choice. Maybe my luck is turning around after all.

After work today, I was excited to go for tonkatsu, but two middle-aged salarymen cut in line in front of me and took the last seats in the restaurant. I was annoyed, but the owner apologized and made me feel better. I ordered the pork cutlet set and the pork fillet set, and to my surprise, they also gave me a shrimp fry for free as a service. The tonkatsu was tender and not too greasy, making it easy to eat. The rice was so good that I had to restrain myself from getting seconds. Apparently, you have to pay for miso soup refills. Despite the rough start, thanks to the owner's kindness, it turned out to be a great dinner. Cheers to the owner!

There is a tonkatsu restaurant located under the overpass just a short walk from Yurakucho Station to Tokyo Station. There was a bit of a line during weekday lunchtime, but the turnover was quick so we were able to get in right away. The chef and the female owner were running the place, and they were both very friendly, which made us happy. I ordered the pork cutlet and it was absolutely delicious, it was the best.

I stopped by on my way home from work and was wondering what to eat. I noticed a restaurant that I had bookmarked and peeked inside, thinking "Are they open?" The owner saw me and I ended up going in. I was the only customer (later 5 people came, including 2 foreigners). I looked at the menu on the wall and ordered the pork cutlet set meal for 1600 yen. It looked delicious with a pretty thick piece of meat. It was served in about 10 minutes. The crust was crispy and the meat was juicy with a sweet taste to the fat. It was very tasty! The rice went down so easily. I ate the cabbage with the sauce provided, as there was no dressing. The pickles were a bit salty, but overall, I would give it a high score. Next time, I want to try the pork fillet cutlet set meal.

The prices have gradually increased like other restaurants, and have now reached 1600 yen. It's unavoidable.

Definitely worth a repeat visit. Under the guardrails at Yurakucho Station, there is a row of restaurants, and one of them is a tonkatsu restaurant. There are two doors, and I was unsure which one to enter, but since there were people waiting in line, I decided to sit on a bench and wait. While waiting, a woman who seemed like the proprietress came to take our order in advance. It's a tonkatsu restaurant, but I was really curious about the shrimp fry set that I had seen on Instagram. When a table opened up, she came outside and guided us into the restaurant. The set included four shrimp fries and a mountain of cabbage. The cabbage had a substantial volume, and although it may not be apparent in the photo, it was quite a lot. They also provided mayonnaise on the side, and on the other side, there were pink grapefruit and lemon. The shrimp fry was packed with meat and had a firm texture, not hard at all, with a chewy texture and a firm bite, expressively described as a dakuten blibbly. It already had a salty taste, which was delicious, but when you add mayo, the saltiness is neutralized and it transforms into the ultimate flavor. The cabbage was perfect when eaten with tonkatsu sauce, and you won't get tired of it until the end. The pickles included two types, osinko and takuan, and the miso soup had wakame seaweed in it, with a gentle flavor that cleansed the stomach. In the end, I didn't end up using the lemon, and the pink grapefruit had a cut between the peel and the fruit, making it easy to eat, showing attention to detail. I entered the restaurant around 6:00 PM on a regular Monday. It was just the beginning of the evening session, but there was already one couple there. The location is under the elevated tracks between Tokyo Station and Yurakucho Station, very close to Yurakucho Station. They have counter seats, so it's comfortable for solo diners. I ordered the mixed set of pork cutlet and fillet cutlet. The pork cutlet here was tender and delicious! The sauce was not too strong, which was also tasty. The owner, who was working alone, had a nice smile. I want to visit this restaurant again.

After finishing my business at Tokyo International Forum, I stopped by a restaurant but it was full so I had to wait for about 10 minutes. They took my order while I was waiting, and my tonkatsu arrived within 5 minutes of being seated. I ordered the pork loin cutlet set, and it was thickly sliced. The color of the fried cutlet looked good. However, I could sense a slight smell in both the loin and the pork. I haven't noticed any pork smell in the past 20 years, so it was somewhat nostalgic... The service was good, but the smell of the meat was still a concern. It was a bit disappointing considering the cutlet was fried to perfection.

A tonkatsu restaurant that doesn't show off its uniqueness. The meat seems firmer and less fatty than before. A tonkatsu restaurant that competes with simple and efficient ingredients and flavors. On this day, I had the loin cutlet. The fatty part is sweet and delicious. Although ginger pork is on the menu, I have never seen it available no matter how many times I've ordered it or when I've visited. As evidence, I couldn't find anyone who uploaded a ginger pork image on Google Maps.

I visited Tonkatsu Shigeru at Yurakucho with the intention of ordering the special premium fillet cutlet set with shrimp fry, but unfortunately they were sold out. Instead, I ordered the regular premium fillet cutlet set and received four crispy breaded large fillet cutlets. The deep-fried dishes here are seasoned well with salt and pepper, making them delicious even when eaten as they are.

There is a tonkatsu restaurant where you can choose the doneness of your cutlet. I remember ordering a loin cutlet before and it was slightly undercooked, making it difficult to chew. When I asked the manager to heat it a bit more, I was refused with the explanation that "this is how we do it here." I stayed away for a while thinking that maybe they cater to people who like their meat closer to raw. However, on this day, I decided to try ordering a fillet. It wasn't rare, but I enjoyed a tender piece of meat to my heart's content.

Recently, I haven't been taking photos when going out for lunch, so I'm restarting the Marunouchi Lunch Series after a long time. Marunouchi lunches are stylish and if you feel out of place in trendy places, I recommend this place. It's a tonkatsu restaurant called Tonkatsu Shige run by a friendly master and his wife. The sight of salarymen sitting shoulder to shoulder at the counter under the railway bridge, silently eating tonkatsu sets, is not something you see often in Marunouchi. I ordered the most expensive Hire (pork fillet) and Ebi Fry (shrimp fry) set for 2,000 yen including tax. It was a generous portion! The taste may not be as high-end as other high-class tonkatsu places, but it was delicious enough. I was once again impressed by the quality you can get for that price at this restaurant. I'd love to go back on a day when my regular meeting ends early!
