ROMA CHU
Located in a building across from Isetan in Shinjuku Sanchome, you will find Shinjuku Tachikichi. This is a tempura skewer restaurant with its main branch in Shinjuku. Since reservations are not accepted, you will have to wait in line. The restaurant is located on the 9th floor of the building, and the elevator does not go up there until the opening time at 5 pm. About 10 minutes before opening, the staff will come down to the elevator, so you can gauge the atmosphere and line up accordingly. With a large number of seats, you should be able to get in on the first round if you are waiting downstairs before opening time. After that, you will have to wait in line in order of arrival, and it is common to wait about 1.5 hours. The system here is all-you-can-eat until you say stop, and the tempura skewers keep coming. The menu includes drinks, rice, onigiri, and miso soup. While you have to pay for each skewer you eat, they are all priced at 200 yen each, making it quite affordable. The speed of service is very fast, even faster than similar restaurants in Osaka. The skewers mainly consist of seafood, with a ratio of about 5 seafood skewers, 3 meat skewers, and 2 vegetable skewers. The batter is slightly crispy and not too heavy, making it easy to eat. The ingredients are mostly standard, but the seasoning and combinations are well thought out, and the sauces like dashi and curry are quite tasty. As you eat more skewers, the quality of ingredients increases, with options like wagyu beef, blowfish, and shirako becoming available after about 20 skewers. It's a challenge to reach this level, but it adds to the fun of enjoying the variety of delicious skewers. So, instead of just filling up on food, you can look forward to more and more delicious options, making it perfect for those who want to enjoy tempura skewers to the fullest.
