During the day, there are only two options available: the Yaki Katsu Don for 1300 yen or the Yaki Katsu Don with extra toppings for 1600 yen. When I went, the option with extra toppings was already sold out. The Katsu Don here consists of rice soaked in broth, topped with thinly cooked egg, and then topped with tonkatsu. It is similar to the Kake Katsu Don at "Suzushin" in Yotsuya-Sanchome, but there the egg is on top of the tonkatsu. The tonkatsu here is thick and perfectly fried, not overly done. It has a delicious combination of pork umami and fat sweetness. They chose not to cover the tonkatsu with egg and broth so that you can taste the tonkatsu's deliciousness directly. Unfortunately, the egg was slightly burnt in some spots, giving it a rough texture that wasn't great. If they had covered it with egg and broth, this wouldn't have been an issue. The red miso soup was delicious. Eating the pickled ginger in vinegar at the end was refreshing. For the quality and quantity of the tonkatsu, 1300 yen is a pretty good deal. I would like to come back at night next time and try the tonkatsu set meal.

I visited in August 2023. The restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere that promised delicious food, and as soon as I walked in, there was a delightful aroma in the air. I ordered a variety of dishes, and each one was carefully prepared and incredibly delicious. It's definitely a place I would love to visit again.

I ordered a regular size pork cutlet bowl for lunch. It was a takeout, but I was very satisfied with the taste! I asked for less rice, but the pork was incredibly tender and had a satisfying volume. It wasn't topped with a folded egg, but the taste of the egg on the rice was also good!

I got takeout during the daytime on my day off! I had heard rumors about it, but it was extremely heavy. The pork was about 3cm thick. However, the broth was on the sweeter side with a strong bonito flavor, and the meat was tender, so surprisingly, it was easy to eat. This store seems to be under renovation, so only takeout is available. If you want to dine in, you'll need to go to another store (about 10 minutes away from this one)!

Tonkatsu Marunana: The main store is generally focused on low-carb diets, so I'm not usually drawn to fried foods, but I was always curious about this place because there was always a line. Since they moved and expanded, I decided to stop by when there was no line, and it was a new discovery. Great cost performance and high satisfaction. Even for someone like me who eats a lot, I was full with a regular size.

I don't particularly like tonkatsu, but I had been curious about this restaurant for a while. I visited around 2:30 pm and waited for about an hour and a half before being seated. As expected for a tonkatsu restaurant, most of the customers were men. I ordered the regular tonkatsu set with a small portion of rice. The batter was light and crispy, but the meat was a bit tough. I wish the egg had a bit more flavor. Overall, it didn't exceed my expectations but was still tasty. I heard the premium tonkatsu is exceptional, so I'll try that next time if I get the chance.

The rumor was true - the thick tonkatsu paired perfectly with the fluffy egg. We enjoyed trying out different ways of eating by combining the condiments on the table (red pepper, sulfur salt, stem wasabi). I want to try the premium tonkatsu next time to see the difference.

This time, I finally visited Marushichi, a popular restaurant located in Monzen-Nakacho. The main store is always crowded with long lines, but it's definitely worth the wait. The thickness of the cutlet in their katsudon is impressive. The meat is tender and goes well with the white rice. I highly recommend trying Marushichi at least once!

Last time it was an upper cutlet bowl, right? The char siu was amazing, but this time the tonkatsu felt a bit like pork loin. I'll go back to the upper cutlet bowl next time! I visited around 12:30 on Sunday and the wait time was 10 minutes (normal) with a wait for 4 people.

I couldn't go to the Akabane store, so I checked out this place without knowing it was a branch. They only offer takeout here, so I decided to give it a try in 1950. It was still okay, and later two more groups came to buy. They serve a katsudon with a huge piece of char siu, about 5 slices. It was incredibly delicious at first, but I got tired of it towards the end. Maybe because I'm elderly. I was full right away. The volume for 1800 yen is cheap!

Recently, "Maru-nana" has been getting a lot of media exposure. I wanted to try it out, so I came here. While you can dine in at the Fudoson branch, this one is takeout only. They open at 11:00, but you can place your order before that and pick it up at 11:00. I placed my order a little after 10:00, then passed the time by having a coffee at a nearby Mister Donut. When it was time to pick up my order, it was ready right on time. The meal wasn't ready immediately, taking about an hour. When I opened it, the tonkatsu was quite large. The flavor of the sauce was just right. However, maybe it's because I'm getting older, but it started to feel quite heavy after the fourth slice... I managed to finish it all, but eating this alone is quite tough. The taste and texture were excellent, but if I were to eat it again, I would definitely need to share it with someone.

@tokyo_ol3 ❤️ It's me! There was a huge line even before the opening! I recommend going at 10:50 and getting in on the first rotation. You can also get takeout if you don't feel like waiting in line. The must-try is the Premium Rib Roast Cutlet Bowl for 2,400 yen. The cutlet is surprisingly thick, even more than the rice! There's a fluffy egg under the cutlet... it's the type of cutlet bowl that doesn't close. Drizzle the rich and sweet sauce on top for the best taste! The Premium size is huge, so you can take home any leftovers. It looks so good that you'll want to order the Premium size for sure. #GrilledCutletBowl #ThickestInJapan #TonkatsuMarushichiFukagawaFudoten #TonkatsuMarushichi #TokyoGourmet #TokyoTonkatsu #TokyoLunch #MonzenNakachoGourmet #MonzenNakachoTonkatsu #MonzenNakachoLunch #Tonkatsu #MonzenNakacho

I went on a journey to a famous restaurant for Katsudon with extra sauce in Monzen-nakacho. Currently, they only offer takeout. I enjoyed it at home. The pork cutlet was thick and tender when I bit into it. The sauce was sweet and plentiful, just right. It had a lot of fatty meat, but it was deliciously sweet. The portion size is quite large for one person. Thank you for the meal.

After waiting in line for about an hour, I finally got my katsudon. It was the most delicious katsudon I have ever had. The level of this katsudon was so different from any other katsudon I have had before that I lack the vocabulary to express how it was different. If you love katsu, you must try this - I can say that with 100% certainty.

I was able to enter the famous original shop of the trending open-katsu-don without waiting in line! I ordered the regular size grilled pork cutlet bowl. The 150g pork loin was a sufficient size. The pork loin was delicious, but I felt like the frying oil was reused too many times, as there was a slightly unpleasant smell of oil. While taste preferences vary, I wished the egg was seasoned a bit more. The total bill was 1,300 yen. I will definitely go back to eat again.

It quickly became popular, and since I had only been eating katsu sandwiches, I decided to line up at the beginning of the year when it wasn't crowded! But, I was a bit disappointed... It seems like the popularity is more about appearance rather than taste... The thickness of the meat is impressive and captivating, but when it comes to the taste, it falls short compared to mass-produced chain stores... It's disappointing! It may not be worth the price... The amount of fat is a bit much... I might prefer making katsudon at home instead... But! I would like to try eating it as a regular pork cutlet meal with sauce! Hopefully, they will offer pork cutlet set meals in the future! And the red miso soup that came with it was delicious♪ I look forward to their future improvements!

The restaurant opened at 11:30, but when I arrived after 11, there was already a line. I was able to enter on the second round. While waiting in line, they took my order, and I was recommended the special grade because it was my first time. I told them I wasn't a fan of fatty meat, so I wanted the regular grade, but they insisted that the high-quality fat was worth it, so I ended up getting the special grade rib roast. It had more fat than I expected. The thickness made the coating come off easily, and there were still some bloody parts left. The sauce was very sweet, and the pickled ginger was also sweet, so with the fat, my stomach and brain were quickly overwhelmed. Personally, I prefer parts like rib roast to be cooked more to reduce the fat. Overall, I think it was a mistake for me to choose this cut, as I prefer tenderloin. It might be good for those who really want to eat fatty meat.

During my visit to collect Goshuin stamps, I stumbled upon a shop with an incredibly thick tonkatsu that made me wonder how many centimeters it was. The line was long, but after waiting for an hour and a half, I finally got inside. The interior of the shop was very clean with wide spacing between seats, which was appreciated by customers. I enjoyed the recommended dish at the shop. Here is the evaluation: Taste: ★★★★★ Portion size: ★★★★★ Customer service: ★★★★☆ Cleanliness: ★★★★★ Price: ★★★★☆ Crowdedness: ★★★☆☆ The texture of the tonkatsu was particularly impressive, being tender despite being pork. It's the kind of dish that you can tell is delicious just by looking at it. It's definitely worth waiting in line to try it.

Today's lunch violence was at Tonkatsu Maruichi in Monzen-Nakacho, where I enjoyed the delicious Katsudon. The main store is also located in the same area, but it is mainly for takeout, which may explain the long line at this location. The Katsudon consists of a fluffy omelette topped with tender and thick slices of pork loin, along with a crispy coating. It also includes popular toppings such as "shijimi soup" from Tonkatsu Yamagoya, "stem wasabi" from Tonkatsu Iwai, and a soy sauce-based sauce similar to the "Tare Katsu" bowl from Niigata. The quality of the branded pork used in the dish is exceptional and truly delicious!

Pork cutlet bowl at Yaki Katsu Donjo. As of July 2022, it is fully reservation-only, so you need to write your name at Monzen-nakacho in the morning. Arrived at 8:00 on a hot Sunday, and the lunch time was about half full, but the evening was quite empty with the 18:20 slot being the first to arrive. It seems like the popularity has slightly calmed down. Even if you arrive early, you need to wait across the street from the restaurant, and when it's time, your name will be called to enter. The pork cutlet bowl at Yaki Katsu Donjo has a thick cutlet of 300g, which looks great with the color of the egg underneath. It is recommended to start eating from the fatty end as it tends to harden when cold, and it does have a sweet taste. It may be a bit tough for those who are not fond of fatty meat. The middle part has a dry texture like char siu, but you can still taste the sweetness of the meat. The batter is thin and crispy, which is great. If it was thicker, I might have gotten tired of it quickly. The sauce is sweet and salty, but a bit on the light side. It goes well with the egg underneath. The fluffy egg, sauce, and rice make a perfect combination! Honestly, this was my favorite part. It felt like a luxurious egg bowl. There are wasabi stems and salt as condiments to change the flavor of the cutlet, but they didn't really fit well. The pickled ginger was the best palate cleanser. The miso soup was a red soup with clams, which was luxurious. While it looked luxurious, the portion was too big to enjoy it fully. The combination of egg, sauce, and rice was fantastic, so the cutlet can be average.

The nearest station is Monzen-Nakacho Station on the Toei Oedo Line, a 3-minute walk away. I had seen this restaurant buzzing on social media and was curious about it. There was information that a few new stores had opened nearby, and it was uncertain which one the manager would be at, so I decided to visit. The place is quite popular, so if you plan to dine in, you need to visit the restaurant in advance and fill out a reservation form with your name and time. Since it's not far from my home, I made a reservation for a grilled pork cutlet bowl (large) priced at 1,800 yen around 8:30 in the morning and visited the restaurant in the evening. I arrived 5 minutes before my reservation time and waited outside until the appointed time. I entered the restaurant right on time and took my seat. The food was served in about 7 minutes. The grilled pork cutlet bowl (large) was, hmm, not quite to my liking. The meat was large, protruding slightly from the bowl. It seemed like they were trying to show off the thick cut of meat, but the pork cutlet itself didn't look appealing as it had a slightly dark color from the sauce. The batter was thin and didn't stick well to the meat. The taste of the sauce was strong, so it was hard to discern the flavors, but I didn't find the breadcrumbs and oil in the batter particularly delicious. The meat was cut into thick slices that were tender and easy to eat, but despite being thick, there wasn't much of a chewy texture. There were still some red parts left in the meat, giving it a slightly rare texture, but since they didn't mention the brand, I was more concerned about the hygiene aspect. Could you please let me know which SPF you are using? The sauce was sweet and easy to eat, but with this volume, a sweet taste will definitely become overwhelming. The note advising to change the flavor with condiments once you get tired of it seemed quite careless. The biggest question is why they make the pork cutlet in the bowl thick and wide, even though they know it will be difficult to eat as a bowl dish. I thought I might find the answer by eating at the restaurant, but other than the visual impact, I couldn't figure out what else was there. The egg was fluffy, which I liked, but other than that, it didn't suit my taste. The owner may be good at running the business, but perhaps they don't have much emphasis on the food itself. Yeah, once is enough for me.
