I walked along a small path from Shima Hyakkaen Garden and was lured in by the inviting aroma of coffee. Unfortunately, the pudding that looked delicious in the photos was sold out, so this time I just enjoyed a cup of coffee. The coffee had a nice aroma and a delicious bitterness that I had heard about.

While pondering in front of the store, I was smiled at by the person working there. I remember last time I came, there was a long wait, so I just got a cup to go and couldn't buy any beans. But today, they said it would only take about 10 minutes. Thank you. There were so many beans on the wall. Instead of getting confused, I read the descriptions a bit and decided on Brazil. The person was grinding the beans at the counter. I was able to see them brewing it carefully. It was Guatemala. I forgot to take a photo and just enjoyed drinking it. It was smooth, not too bitter, and delicious. Thank you for the treat. I'll enjoy the freshly roasted coffee at home. 150g for 900 yen. They said it reduces to about 80% after roasting. Understood.

It's the season, the typhoon has passed, and the situation with COVID-19 seems to have calmed down a bit, so I decided to go to Mukojima Hyakkaen to see the bush clover flowers. Before that, I had a pork cutlet curry at Nissho Curry, and after finishing my visit to the garden, I stopped by a bakery that caught my eye to buy a snack or two for the walk back. I had seen the sign for this shop many times, but for some reason, I could never find it. Finally, I found it. There was only one customer inside. I watched the roasting machine at the storefront and thought for a while. When the previous customer left, I went in. It seemed that it would take about 30 minutes to roast the beans due to a prior appointment, but I decided to have a cup to go. The specialty of the day, I forgot the name... The man came down from the second floor, ground the beans, and brewed a cup. He ground the beans once, put them in the dripper, took a break, and then ground the beans again to brew a cup. I wonder what was wrong with the first beans he ground. Anyway, it was a carefully brewed cup. It cost 400 yen and it was delicious. I plan to go back next time to get some beans. Thank you for the meal.

Time goes back to late autumn in 2020. The annual tradition of enjoying autumn leaves is at Mukojima Hyakkaen. But this year, due to the pandemic, we need to be cautious. After enjoying the autumn leaves, it's time for a coffee break. Right next to Mukojima Hyakkaen is a coffee shop with a fitting name, Hyakka Coffee. Despite the slightly worn-out retro exterior, the interior has a charming old folk house vibe that I really liked. I couldn't help but be charmed by the curve of the solid wood counter table. The cozy space of the open kitchen made me regret missing the opportunity to take a picture. The staircase leading to the second floor, although not in use, also exuded a sense of history. The owners, who commute by car from Edogawa Ward, are friendly and provide excellent customer service. They have a selection of specialty coffees, including a budget-friendly service coffee A or B [500 yen]. They also offer a special set that includes the famous jumbo pudding [500 yen] and service coffee for 800 yen, which I highly recommend. The Service Coffee B, Uganda African Moon, has a rich taste profile and is quite enjoyable. The Indonesia Abyssinia Sumatra Aceh Bergendal [650 yen] is a deep roast type with a deeper flavor and a slightly spicy taste that I personally prefer. The jumbo pudding, with cherries on top, has a nostalgic texture and a rich taste. The caramel topping is generously applied, but the accompanying cream was a bit lacking in quality. It would be nice if they could improve the quality even if they raise the price a bit. They also offer coffee beans for purchase, roasted to order, which could be a great souvenir after visiting Hyakkaen.

I had a service coffee and toast with homemade apple jam. This place allows you to watch the coffee preparation process from grinding to brewing while you wait for your coffee. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy your coffee, especially if the conversation flows. You can also order specialty coffee beans for takeout while enjoying your coffee. I'm sure I'll be hooked on the taste of the coffee roasted in the hot air roaster.

One weekday morning, I visited a cafe called "Hyakka Coffee" that had caught my eye before. It was around 11:00 and the shop was open with no other customers. Feeling a bit nervous, I entered. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. I sat at the counter and looked through the menu, but decided to try the house blend coffee. It was a Brazilian blend (450 yen) that was the service coffee of the day. They brewed it meticulously in front of me, measuring the amount in a beaker and taking their time to extract the full flavor of the beans. The coffee was then poured into a warmed cup and served to me. I savored the aroma, enjoying the bitterness and light acidity of the Brazilian coffee, indulging in a luxurious coffee time. I leisurely enjoyed my time there, savoring the last sip before leaving. I look forward to trying something different next time. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

I dropped by after lunch today. It seems like they just opened. I was tempted by the Blue Mountain coffee for their opening service, but I decided to order the coffee from Peru. The coffee was slowly brewed, with hot water poured to keep the cup warm. It's a nice place to also choose coffee beans to enjoy at home while waiting. I'm interested in trying their desserts next time. Thank you for the meal.

Coffee goes without saying. I also love sweets. I always used to have pudding, but the cheesecake is also GOOD! I apologize for not being able to express the shape.
