I went to Marika Nepali Cuisine & Bar on a Saturday around 12 pm in January 2023. It's located a short walk from Shin-Koiwa Station South Exit, just past the Subaru dining area gate on the right. Inside, I ordered the Chicken Curry Set as usual. The set included dal, rice, chicken curry, achar, cucumber, and mango lassi. The dal was hot and smooth, the rice was a blend of long-grain and Japanese rice, the chicken curry was hot and slightly oily with a nice touch of chopped coriander. The achar was mainly made of daikon, and the mango lassi was rich and made with mango puree. I was offered seconds of dal and rice, which I gladly accepted. I mixed the second servings with the remaining ingredients and finished my meal. I paid with PayPay and left the restaurant. If you have the chance, why not give it a try?

I heard there is a delicious Nepalese restaurant in Shin-Koiwa, so I made a reservation with five colleagues and visited this place located in a shady street in the Subaru food court. We left the ordering to our Nepalese colleague, and everything from the daikon pickles to the spicy lamb dish, momos, and mango lassi was delicious. We experienced a power outage about four times during the two hours we were there, but each time we sang Happy Birthday to pass the time and had fun. Despite ordering a lot of alcohol, we were surprised at how cheap the bill was. It took us about an hour to get home, even though it was far from our houses, but we definitely want to go back again!

The mango lassi was incredibly rich and delicious! When I visited the restaurant before, it was closed on Tuesdays, so I finally had the chance to go today when I had some business near Shinkoiwa. I ordered the chicken curry with a drink for 750 yen. The rice was fluffy and the lentils and curry were absorbed well. The lentils were light and there were about 2 pieces of bone-in meat and 3 boneless pieces in the curry. They were tender and tasty. I was hungry, so I got a second serving of lentils and rice. They brought me another bowl and a half of rice on a separate plate. I finished it all, though. I need to be careful. I definitely want to go back again.

I came here because it's quietly located in a small alley just 2-3 minutes from Shin-Koiwa Station. It was not crowded when I visited. There were 4 people in the back, but they were not Japanese. The staff also seemed to be Nepalese, but they spoke Japanese fluently. This time, I had: - Malika Set (for 2 people): I chose the mutton curry, dal, chicken curry, rice, achar, pickles, etc. I love the mutton curry. - Roti Set: I was happy to see roti on the menu. You get 6 freshly baked rotis. The main dishes are chicken curry and dal curry, which are on the watery side. You can eat them by dipping the roti or wrapping the chicken in it. The portion size is substantial for the price, so it's great value for money. The taste is authentic.Visited around November 2022.

I have been to Shin-Koiwa several times and discovered a unique Nepalese restaurant called Marika in a triangular area near the station. The restaurant offers authentic Nepalese cuisine, not the usual Indian curry. The set menu includes dal (lentils), bhat (rice), tarkari (meat dish), achar (pickle), and a soup. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious, with options for chicken or mutton curry. The set also includes roti (flatbread) instead of rice. The atmosphere is authentic and the prices are reasonable. It's a great place to experience Nepalese cuisine, but not recommended for those looking for typical Indian curry.

[Overall Impression] Located about a 3-minute walk from Shin-Koiwa Station, this Nepalese restaurant offers incredibly affordable dishes in a small alleyway reminiscent of a drinking district. While not as authentic as a Dal Bhat, you can enjoy a Chicken Curry set that comes pretty close for only 600 yen. I also added some Momos to my order, and they were delicious - the skin was chewy and nicely spicy. When it comes to Nepalese restaurants, they often serve Indian cuisine as well, but at this place, I recommend sticking to the Nepalese dishes without hesitation! [Detailed Review] Shin-Koiwa has a lot of Asian restaurants, so I decided to try a Nepalese restaurant this time. The place is located in a narrow alleyway called Subaru Shokudo, slightly off the main street. It looks a bit shady with a red tent and a white wall covered with many menus. The interior has a peculiar layout with seven tables, and I think it used to be a snack bar due to the presence of a mirror ball. There were three Nepalese male staff members. While ethnic music is often played in such places, there was no background music here. During lunchtime, they offer set menus ranging from 650 to 1000 yen, but they also accommodate orders from the grand menu. I opted for the cheapest lunch set and added the Nepalese classic, Momos, from the grand menu: - Steamed Momos (500 yen): I believe this is the standard type, juicy with a nice spice level. The skin was chewy and delicious - 8 pieces for 500 yen is incredibly cheap and satisfying. - Chicken Curry Set (600 yen): A Dal Bhat-style set with Japanese rice. Instead of stir-fried greens, they served cucumber. The chicken was bone-in, so watch out for small bones. The curry had a good flavor, especially when combined with the chicken. It's hard to believe you can get such quality curry for 600 yen. The portion size was decent, and it even came with a lassi drink. [Final Thoughts] Despite the shady alley and exterior, the food at this restaurant is authentic and shockingly affordable. The flavors are genuine, and the prices are unbeatable. I've tried Nepalese cuisine at various places, but this one stands out for both taste and value. The total bill for today was only 1100 yen. Highly recommended!

This is a restaurant located in the "Subaru Food Street" in front of Shin-Koiwa Station. It can be a bit nerve-wracking to wander around alone as a woman in broad daylight, but thanks to the information from Tabelog, I decided to give it a try. Although there is a Nepalese restaurant nearby that offers Butter Chicken Curry and Cheese Naan, this place seems to specialize in Nepalese cuisine. I opted for the Marikaset (Chicken Curry, daily curry, Dal curry, Achar, rice, stir-fry, and a drink for 950 yen), which is named after the restaurant. The daily curry was a steamed mix of potatoes and spinach, while the stir-fry consisted of pork belly and vegetables cooked with curry powder. Nepalese curry is quite different from North Indian curry, as I discovered. The Chicken Curry was thin and quite salty, designed to be eaten with plenty of white rice. The coriander was cooked in, giving it a fragrant and delicious taste. The Dal was pleasantly salty with tender beans, while the potatoes and spinach were soft and flavorful. The stir-fry had a rich taste that complemented the rice well, along with the crunchy cucumber and radish Achar. The variety of flavors, temperatures, and textures created a well-balanced meal, reminiscent of a well-made bento box. Mixing a little bit of everything with rice brought a comforting feeling, similar to the Japanese tradition of pouring soup over rice. I also enjoyed the not-too-sweet, frothy Lassi. There are many other Nepalese dishes on the menu that I would like to try, so I look forward to coming back again. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Subaru dining area right next to Shin-Koiwa Station. This corner feels like time has stopped in the Showa era, but I like this deep atmosphere. There were seats at the back of the food store. I usually have rice dal bhat, but they had a roti version so I decided to try that. It was 800 yen plus 100 yen for an additional drink. The curry had chicken with bones, but there was a decent amount of meat and the spiciness was just right for me. There was plenty of dal with a good saltiness. The pickled radish was a bit too sour for my taste. The roti came with 6 pieces, 3 normal and 3 brown ones. It was delicious, but I still think rice dal bhat goes better with it.

It's been about two months since I last visited Shin-Koiwa. Last time, I couldn't decide between Marika-san and Jannat-san, so I ended up eating at Moroguprao with Jannat-san. So this time, I decided to visit Marika-san. The location is amazing, located in the "Subaru Drink and Eat Street." The entrance to this food street is quite impressive with a Showa-era arch, but it feels more like a back alley than a bustling food street. The shops were mostly open, but there was a sense of deepness to the place. The entrance is right by the exit of the food street, making it easy to access. As for the food: - Batmas Sadeko (300 yen): A dish with fried soybeans, carrots, purple onions, cucumbers, and other vegetables mixed together. The soybeans are crispy and delicious, with a hint of spiciness from chopped green chili and raw garlic. - Mutton Curry Set (750 yen): A set with Dal Curry, Mutton Curry, rice, achar, sliced raw vegetables, and a drink. The Dal Curry is yellow with a hint of garlic, while the Mutton Curry has tender meat with a slightly sweet flavor. The rice is a mix of long-grain and Japanese rice, and the achar is made from daikon radish, offering a mild spiciness. Overall, the restaurant has a deep location but a clean interior. They offer a variety of Nepalese dishes on the menu, including Dal Bhat and other single items. The atmosphere of the street adds to the experience, making it a great spot for Nepalese food lovers and those who enjoy exploring unique places.

I prefer Nepalese cuisine over Indian cuisine. I used to go to Hungry Eye in Koiwa for Nepalese food, but I followed my followers' recommendations and tried this restaurant instead. I thought it was located along Heiwa Bridge Street, but it was actually in a slightly scary alley off the main road. There were a few Nepalese men hanging around in front of the restaurant, which made it intimidating to enter. But I went in anyway. I was the only customer inside. The atmosphere was a bit dim, but the staff member was friendly. Nepalese music was playing in the background. I ordered a set meal and Oolong tea. It took quite some time for the food to be served, but it seemed like they were preparing everything fresh. The set meal included rice (probably Basmati), lentil soup, curry (I chose mutton), radish pickle, okra and bean curry, and stir-fried dried meat. The lentil soup was my favorite, it was delicious and comforting. The mutton curry had chunks of meat in it. The dried meat was so good that I wanted to buy some to take home. Despite the intimidating entrance, the food was excellent. Thank you for the meal.

I couldn't have a large group dinner, so I attended a small gathering. We met at 6:00 PM on Saturday, and I arrived about 10 minutes early near the restaurant. There was a sign for "Marika" under the gate that said Subaru Food and Drink Street. I cautiously entered Subaru Food and Drink Street, and there were only two restaurants. Marika was located at the back. The entrance area was a retail space, and the dining area was further inside. The organizer, J, had sent me the menu in advance, but they were still working on it, so there was no menu available yet. By the time we gathered, three of us were present, and the dinner began. Originally opened as an Innepa store, it seems they are restarting as a Gachinepa store. They had created a new menu but had not printed it yet. This time, they could accommodate both the old and new menus. We started with a toast with draft beer, followed by Rakshi 38%, Nepali Special Somras, McDowell, Old Durbar, and 8848 Vodka. We were served Murako Achar as a starter, and then we ordered the following dishes: Chili Momomo with chili sauce stir-fry (mild spiciness), Boiled Mutton seasoned with salt and spices, Marika Special Khaja Set (Chicken Sekuwa, Mutton Bhuteco, Sausage Fry, Chiura Fry, Achar, and Salad platter), Chukauni (cold salad with potatoes, ginger, garlic, red onions, cilantro, yogurt, and lemon juice), Samosa Matter (samosa with green peas in dal), and Raskara (sweet yogurt with something soft inside). Everything was delicious, but I especially enjoyed the Chukauni. The combination of Chiura and Mutton Bhuteco was also very good. It was a delightful feast that lasted for four and a half hours. We talked mostly about curry-related topics. Since it seems we can only have small gatherings next time as well, we confirmed that we would hold a super spicy curry party and decide on the details for the next Capsaicin party at that event before wrapping up. J, the organizer, disappeared into the night, and the instigator JO and I headed home. After arriving at the local station, we couldn't resist having Tsukemen at a chain ramen shop. I ate at three curry-related stores plus one ramen shop... I ate a bit too much. I will reflect on that.

Hello. I am the self-proclaimed Curry King. Had a meal with my curry buddies at "Marika" in Shin-Koiwa, which transitioned from being an Indian Nepalese restaurant to a full-fledged Nepalese restaurant. The Chili Momochili lacked the chili kick I was hoping for. It was tasty, but I wanted more spice. The Boiled Mutton was a simple dish that I enjoyed, although the meat pieces were a bit small. The Samosa Matter was good, but I missed the green peas that were supposed to be inside. The Marika Special Kaja Set was enjoyable, with a light and crispy texture to the Chiura. The Sausage Fry was like a Takosan Wiener, and the Muruko Achar was slightly lacking in fermentation for my taste. The Chukauni, a cold potato yogurt curry, was delicious and a steal at only 400 yen. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture or remember the taste of the Raskara, but it was a reminder of my low alcohol tolerance. Overall, the restaurant has room for improvement in some areas, but it still offers a unique Nepalese dining experience in Shin-Koiwa.

Namaste. I am the self-proclaimed Curry King. I heard that the restaurant "Marika," which I invaded last time, was undergoing renovations and updating its menu to be more authentic Nepalese. I decided to investigate if the renovation was complete. The interior of the restaurant had indeed been renovated. The menu, however, had not changed. I asked the owner about the new menu, and he showed me a preview on his phone. It was filled with Nepalese dishes I had never seen or tried before. I decided to order from the current menu for that day. I had the Vegetable Tukpa and Momos, which were like a Nepalese version of ramen and dumplings. The Tukpa had a slightly spicy and soy sauce-like flavor, which was familiar and enjoyable. The Momos were delicious as always. The owner shared with me the journey of opening the authentic Nepalese restaurant "Marika" in Shin-Koiwa. The restaurant had previously been called "New Taste Tokyo" in Horikiri Shobuen before relocating. I learned that "New Taste Tokyo" used to serve both Indian and Nepalese dishes but had now transitioned to focus solely on Nepalese cuisine at "Marika." I look forward to returning to try the new menu. The total bill for the day was only 1000 yen, quite affordable. I will definitely be invading this place again soon.

Hello. I am the self-proclaimed Curry King. July 24th. The Hiraizaka area in Shinkoiwa has a mosque, making it a comfortable environment for Muslims to live in. As a result, it has become a Bangladeshi paradise. Unlike India or Nepal, Bangladesh has a large Muslim population. Although there are Muslims in India and Nepal, they are more of a minority. However, a Nepalese halal restaurant has recently opened in Shinkoiwa. Its name is "Marika". I decided to try the Marika Special Set, which includes chicken curry and lentils. The lentils were a surprise instead of vegetable curry, but they were delicious. The chicken curry, lentils, and naan were all very tasty. I also tried the mutton curry for takeout, which was full of spices and garlic. The owner mentioned that the restaurant will be renovated soon and will reopen with an expanded menu featuring authentic Nepalese cuisine. Shinkoiwa has truly become a multicultural town with amazing charm.

This neighborhood used to be a red-light district, and the Subaru dining area seems to be decaying in its Showa-era appearance. The restaurant, located in the middle of a small path, looks like a combination of two snack bars, with 5 tables and 16 seats, also functioning as a grocery store. I ordered the mutton thali set (1,200 yen) and a mango juice at the counter. The atmosphere is nostalgic and slightly neglected. I watched a Nepalese satellite broadcast and saw that India is also experiencing heavy rain. The set meal finally arrived, consisting of chiwra, mutton thali, batmas sadeko, aloo achar, golbheda ko chutney, and salad. The mutton thali had a nice texture, and the batmas sadeko had a flavor similar to kimchi. On top of the chiwra were vegetables stir-fried with mutton. I ended the meal with a special milk coffee (400 yen), which was similar to South Indian coffee and quite delicious.
