"駅弁かにめし本舗 駅弁直売場所" is a must-visit for me when I pass through Nagaoka on the local road. When it comes to "kani-meshi" (crab rice), it's always in a bento style (^ω^)… While eating at the neighboring restaurant is nice, this time I bought it from the shop and enjoyed it in the free rest area on the premises. The free rest area is a real treat for enthusiasts as it uses seats from trains that were actually used between Hakodate and Aomori, complete with large LCD TVs displaying scenic views taken from the train. It's enjoyable to relax and savor the station bento.
The "◇◆ Kani-meshi from Kanaya @ 1,250 yen ◆◇" has a familiar visual that hasn't changed for many years. The crab meat, which has been sautéed, is crispy and packed with the deliciousness of crab. The flavorful shiitake mushrooms and kinshi tamago (shredded omelet) complement it well. The shop's original simmered wakame seaweed also does a great job. For dessert, I refreshed my palate with traditional syrupy mikan (mandarins) and thoroughly enjoyed it! The traditional bento from this long-established shop is always of high quality no matter when you eat it!!
While it's now easily available at large supermarkets, department stores, and online, there's something special about eating it warm and freshly made. This time, too, I was completely satisfied with the consistently delicious taste (・∀・)イイネ!! Thanks for the delicious meal!
