"宇佐美商店" is a shop in the Tanka Market known for its nukamiso meshi (rice cooked with fermented rice bran). Today, I saw news that Tanka Market caught fire, and I'm really worried. When I checked their website, it said they're temporarily closed today, and they'll announce their reopening later. I visited this shop on November 19, 2021, which is closer to Tanka Station in Tanka Market.
The day before, I saw a high school girl buying one of their eggs and eating it on her way home, which piqued my interest. Since I wanted to try the local specialty dish, nukamiso meshi, I decided to buy some before returning to Tokyo.
I tried their nukamiso meshi with mackerel for 300 yen and half-cooked egg for 150 yen. There was also mackerel for 350 yen, but it's just a size difference. I thought it would be sweet because it's in Kyushu, but it wasn't as sweet as I expected. The slightly sweet nukamiso meshi paired well with white rice, giving the impression of a sweet miso stew. The egg was delightfully runny, making it a delicious treat that even the high school girl couldn't resist.
They also sell a 100-year nuka bed for 650 yen, which is used to make nukazuke (pickled vegetables) and it's truly delicious. The person who served me was a friendly young man who seems to be the third generation. He was very pleasant, and I wish them all the best!
