"Wakatsuki & SallyCurry 1st Anniversary Collaboration <SPICESESSION> Day 2: Today, I visited SallyCurry (サリーカリー) in Osaka's Chuo Ward, Kitahama Higashi 5-4, Cosin Kitahama B1F. The nearest station is Osaka Metro's 'Kitahama' Station, just a 5-minute walk away. I had a reservation for 11:00 AM, and I arrived at around 10:30 AM.
The setup was already prepared, and I had some time for photography before the opening time. Today's menu consisted of three curry varieties and six side dishes:
[Curries]
1. Ikasumi Black Spice Basmati Rice Curry
2. Lamb Mince and Japanese Dashi Curry (You can change to pork if you don't like lamb.)
3. Hybrid Curry with Asari Clams and Chicken
4. Dashi Dal Curry
[Side Dishes]
1. Smoked Cabbage Mustard Stir-fry
2. Spiced Eggplant
3. Pol San Bol (Potato and Corn)
4. Seared Buri (Japanese Amberjack)
5. Gari and Yellow Peach Raita
6. Octopus Croquette with Ume Plum Sauce
These were menu items that both SallyCurry and Wakatsuki had been thinking about and planning for a long time. The rice and two curry varieties were different from the previous day, and I was excited to see how they had changed.
I secured my spot at the pole as planned, took some photos, and then made way for the next person. I was a bit nervous in the presence of the ladies, but they kindly struck up a conversation, which was a relief.
Oh! I met the same lady I was with at the same time yesterday. She turned out to be a mutual Instagram follower, but unfortunately, our other mutual followers couldn't make it today. We had some great conversations.
As the opening time approached, I went downstairs and entered the restaurant. I disinfected my hands with the alcohol sanitizer at the entrance and got permission from the staff for photography. I sat at the second counter seat from the back, as per the reservation order.
I thanked both Sally and Wakatsuki for the previous day, confirmed my choice of lamb meat (which could be changed to pork if needed), and received a commemorative keychain for attending both days. After settling the bill, I took some photos, and the keychain was really cool!
After a short wait, the dishes arrived. Here's a close-up! Changing the center rice makes a big difference. It was a beautiful one-plate dish. Let's dig in!
First, I tried the Ikasumi Black Spice Basmati Rice. It had squid ink and pieces of squid in it, and the spice flavor was outstanding even on its own! The Dashi Dal Curry had a gentle flavor today since they mashed the beans a bit. The Lamb Mince and Japanese Dashi Curry had a perfect balance of lamb, spices, and dashi - incredibly delicious! I could eat it endlessly!
The Hybrid Curry with Asari Clams and Chicken was a combination of Wakatsuki's signature Chicken Sansho and Sally's Asari Clams, taking the best of both shops. It was also delicious, and I hope it becomes a staple at Wakatsuki's!
The side dishes were further refined, adding Tobiko to the seared Buri and turning the Gari and Yellow Peach Raita into something incredible. You can enjoy them individually, with the Ikasumi Black Spice Basmati Rice, or alongside the curry, bringing delightful changes in flavor and texture.
I ate about half before mixing everything together into a delightful chaos! The mixture of flavors, including acidity and spiciness, was pure happiness!
If you've tried either of the shops' curries before, you absolutely must try this collaboration. They've taken their specialties and added an extra twist for even more deliciousness! While there will be many curry collaborations this year, each one is a unique experience. I wonder if this exclusive collaboration between these two will continue next year?
After getting fully satisfied, I thanked everyone and left the restaurant. Thanks to my husband as well! It was delicious, and I'll definitely be back!"
