"Kokopelli Curry. This curry restaurant operates a one-drink policy during dinner time. Please note that this will be explained when you place your order. Additionally, there is an extra charge of 1,000 yen (excluding tax) for appetizers, dessert, and Sri Lankan tea, which is not clearly stated on the menu and was only brought to my attention by the owner during payment. The appetizer is a simple snack, and dessert consists of two small slices of cake made by the owner's mother. To be honest, I thought it was a service, considering the extra charge during dinner time. I believe it is the responsibility of a restaurant to clearly state important information, make it easy to understand, and obtain consent in advance.
For reference, here is the breakdown of the charges:
- Curry Assortment (3 types): 2,200 yen (excluding tax)
- One drink: 700 yen (excluding tax)
- Appetizer + Dessert + Tea: 1,000 yen (excluding tax)
The total comes to 3,900 yen. With the consumption tax of 10%, it becomes 4,290 yen, which is the minimum amount to pay at this restaurant (as of March 5th, Reiwa era). For reference, here are the curry prices (including tax) for lunch and dinner (excluding tax):
- President's Special Mix: 3,300 yen (3,000 yen for lunch)
- 3 Types 3 Top Mix (Honey Kima): 3,080 yen (2,800 yen for lunch)
- 3 Types 3 Top Mix: 2,860 yen (2,600 yen for lunch)
- 3 Types Mix: 2,420 yen (2,200 yen for lunch)
Lunch includes a free drink, but dinner includes a mandatory paid drink, and there are also mandatory paid appetizers, etc. As a result, I was shocked to see a bill of around 9,000 yen for two people. When I asked about it, the owner said, "It's written on the menu," but the font size is so small and hard to read. Please be careful when you go, so you don't get surprised at the checkout. While I understand that the owner may incur costs and effort in doing this, the important question is how well they are meeting the customers' expectations. This is how I rated the cost-performance and service. The owner claims it's a luxury experience, but in today's context, the word "luxury" is often associated with "high-end," which is contrary to the original Latin meaning of "excessive extravagance." This misleading use of the term made me reconsider making a reservation with JARO. It was a very unpleasant experience. Lowest rating ever. Please understand various aspects."
