"Bistro Hyakumeiten. The aromatic shrimp curry with the essence of French technique, featuring succulent lobster, costs 1,320 yen. I visited on Friday at 12:40, and the seating rate was around 40%. I tried to find a lunch spot after the morning rain had stopped, but it started raining again! I had my foldable umbrella with me, but I didn't bring a bag, so once it got wet, I couldn't put it in my bag. So, I decided to search for a restaurant near my current location without going all the way to Iidabashi. The restaurant that came up is here, near the first Japanese outlet of Meringue I visited before. I wondered if there was such a place nearby and when I looked at the exterior photo, I saw that there was a door next to the bakery with a staircase leading up. At first glance, it had a doorknob and was closed, so I thought it might be an employee entrance for the bakery.
When I entered the restaurant and looked at the menu, I noticed that the cheapest lunch option was starting from 1,320 yen. It's a Bistro French restaurant in Kagurazaka, but it's quite reasonable. I found a menu item that caught my eye – the lobster curry with the essence of omurice. Today, I didn't feel like hopping to another place for dessert, so I also ordered a dessert for 440 yen and a drink for 220 yen. The soup arrived in about 10 minutes, a celery potage soup. This soup really has a strong celery flavor! It's delicious now, but I don't think I could have had it as a child. Next came the salad, colorful and extremely delicious. As expected, the appetizers take the spotlight with a big sign.
And then, the curry arrived. When I first took a bite, I felt the kick of spices, but what followed was the amazing flavor of lobster. I wonder if they made the broth using French techniques? The pieces of lobster in it were perfectly cooked and so tender; they were generously portioned. The spiciness is on the mild to medium side, and for those who want more heat, there's habanero sauce provided. I didn't need extra spiciness, so I just enjoyed it as is. The spiciness doesn't linger, and once you get used to it, you can really savor the flavor of the lobster. The fusion of curry and French cuisine is masterful!
I've got to come back to try the other dish that piqued my interest, the hashed beef. I seem to be wrapping up the text, but I still ordered dessert and a drink. The dessert and drink arrived. The matcha and white chocolate gâteau chocolat isn't quite the color of a gâteau chocolat, more like a grayish sesame pound cake. When I tried it, it was moist with the flavors of matcha and white chocolate, and it had a rich, heavy taste, truly a gâteau chocolat. Moreover, it falls into the category of being quite delicious. I usually don't order dessert to save room for more during a lunch hop, and also, the big sign outside said that appetizers are the stars, so I wouldn't normally order dessert. But today, because of the rain and not wanting to hop, I ordered it without much expectation, but it turned out to be unexpectedly delicious. The big sign outside may say that appetizers are the stars, but it's a bit misleading. In reality, the appetizers are the stars, the mains are the stars, and the desserts are the stars. Well, to put it simply, everything was delicious. The total bill was 1,980 yen including tax, and I could pay with a credit card. Despite being one of Kagurazaka's top hundred restaurants, this pricing with dessert and drink included is quite affordable.
Addendum... I visited again on Wednesday, April 19th, to try the hashed beef, but they were closed! They only serve lunch on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, so please be aware!"
