"Marumiya-tei" is a famous restaurant known for its grilled offal dishes, founded in 1972 in Higashi-Kujo, Kyoto. It expanded to Ueno, Tokyo in December 2021. I visited with a friend on a weekday at 8:00 PM. The interior had a nostalgic ambiance suitable for both solo diners and groups. Their menu offers a variety of dishes, including their signature pig's feet, insect pork, and pork offal, as well as rare cuts like tongue and cheek. We ordered the following dishes:
- Pig's feet (¥600 tax included)
- Insect pork (¥540 tax included)
- Assorted skewers - heart, liver, and black throat (¥880 tax included)
- Boiled snap peas with salt (¥390 tax included)
- Pork kimchi (¥690 tax included)
- Crunchy kimchi pancake (¥430 tax included)
- Pork udon noodles (¥540 tax included)
We enjoyed all seven dishes, from appetizers perfect with beer to the finishing touch of the "pork udon." The "pig's feet," a dish served since the restaurant's inception, was tender and delicious, complemented perfectly by a simple seasoned warm soup. The "insect pork" has also been a menu staple since the beginning, and we enjoyed it with their special chili paste and salt and pepper seasoning. The service from the staff was attentive, and we look forward to visiting again in the future.
